View Full Version : What the hell?

Why the hell are so many threads locked? The whole babysitting mentality thing is getting old. And yeah, I know there's been a few topics on this already... but seriously, it's getting fucking ridiculous.

It's one thing to lock a thread that needs to be locked, but it's another to seek out threads to lock, or to lock anything on the slightest whim.

Tonight I'm talking about this thread-

Why collectors shouldn't waste their money on bad games (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84167)

There's absolutely no reason for that thread to be locked. Every thread that GrandAm linked to is different in some way or another than the thread in question and I actually had something to contribute to the topic.

Besides that, a lot of us don't like bumping or dredging up year old topics, that would probably get locked for being old or bumped anyway.

I am tired of this thread already. For more info why people collect try these:

By that logic, the entire forum should probably be locked...

For fucks sake... what's the point of a forum if you can't conversate?

I think the mods are just trying to cut down on threads that are repetitive, unnecessary, or ones that will cause a flaming war.

Also, some things are considered wrong/illegal that you may not know of. A few weeks ago, I posted looking for a torrent, but the thread was soon locked.

At first, I didn't understand this, but I went and re-read the faq and figured out why. Hope this helps.

I can understand your points. I do know that in the past, threads were only locked if they were immature, did little to benefit the forum members, or while the thread was active, it became hostile for one reason or another.

One thing I will say is that there will have to be rules in every facet of life just to prevent chaos. There ARE reasons for these things.

Perhaps someone's got an itchy trigger finger when it comes to locking threads? I'm not sure, but you do make a point.

If you've been looking around you'd see that a few of the locks (including the one you linked) were basically threads that were crapped on by Fighter17's personal crusade to say how he thinks it's stupid to buy sealed games and never play them - it's been done to death. Collectors collect for different reasons. Some people like sealed games. Some people like to buy and open sealed rare games.

People do different things and have different preferences. X_x

Concerning the other stuff, they were duplicate threads, they get a lock and the link to where the thread on the matching subject is located is provided.

And now, as this has nothing to do with Classic Gaming, I assume it will be locked as well. :)

Regarding any issues you have, it's probably better to try an privately PM a mod first, before publicly calling him/her out.

That's not really the point.

Or it could be moved to the Off-topic forum. I just posted it here because it's where the thread is that was locked.

I didn't call out anyone. I just stated my issues and frustrations about so many topics being locked for no reason on this forum "in general". And I'm not alone in that respect.

Hey man, you are not alone. I decided to read that thread you were talking about and I too find it pointless. The reason for locking it was "I'm tired of this thread."

Does that mean everyone is tired of it? Some of the posters there seemed to find it interesting enough to reply. If we keep locking threads in that fashion the forum will never grow naturally.

So yes, I definitely see what you mean.

Now is it a huge deal? No. Not really. Just a little annoying.

Good luck on trying to get your point across. I'm sure others understand what you are saying.

I can understand these complaints, and agree with them a little. But the sealed game example you use has been beaten to death, and always ends up in the two sides going at it. I can understand why that topic was locked.

I think the problem here lies in newer members, or even older members, wanting to get in on a conversation that may be stale in the eyes of some mods. DP is growing and so is the amount of repeat topics.

The prize goes to Vectorman0s: The Hands Of Fate for this one; the mods have been known to unlock stuff if you contact us in private with a good reason to do so; going off on the mods either in public or in private is much less likely to have the same outcome.

I thought it was made pretty clear that the thread lock in question was about redundancy. Hopefully this helps a bit.

P.S. >> LOCK <<
