Well last night I pulled Tetris DS out of my DS (for the first time since I bought). I put Meteos in and played it for awhile. I forgot how great the music, graphics and gameplay were. It's awesome!

I suggest everyone who's got Meteos put it back in and give it a whirl.

The music and graphics are great, but the gameplay seems broken to me. The game can pretty much be finished by just sliding the stylus back and forth, over and over.

I can't quite believe that people still look at this game like that. Meteos is, at least for me, the second best puzzler on the DS. It is only behind Tetris DS, and nothing comes close to Tetris.

Meteos is a fine example of simple, but effective, graphics, addictive gameplay, an absorbing soundtrack and plenty of little touches that really make a difference, and highten the moment.

The gameplay is only broken if you break it yourself.

I've never gotten that to work - but I guess I've never really tried it - it seems pretty boring.

You've never gotten it to work, because it doesn't. Meteos isn't designed to work that way, and though you might get lucky sliding around haphazardly in the early levels, you're not going to progress very far.

Two weeks ago, I bought both Meteos and Lumines. I played Lumines first and totally regret the hour I put into it. Now, there's a Lumines Vs Meteos thread already out there, and I'm sure someone will want to come in here and tell me up and down how I'm wrong about Lumines, but just don't bother. Here's the point:

Next, I played Meteos. And it kicked arse. I tried the whole scribbling technique, and it worked a few times; however, to be regularly successful, I can't use it. I have to play the game as intended. Good.

Meteos is excellent.

I don't like agreeing with Club Ninja, but I felt the same way after playing Lumines. Meteos is one of my favoite games when playing 2 player.

Kind of the opposite for me. I think Meteos is a poor man's Lumines.

Interesting, though I have no idea how one would come to that conclusion - the games are drastically different.

Well they're both puzzle games, so the difference isn't so drastic. But, they've always been compared because they were both designed by Tetsuya Mizaguchi, came out around the same time, and the whole PSP vs DS thing. Anyway, I prefer Lumines to Meteos.

When I first got Lumines, I was instantly like "This is better than Meteos". But now... they're even. They are just different, and you can't really compare them.

Meteos is frantic, while Lumines is a little more relaxed and trance-like. Different games for different moods. The production values of both, though, are out of this world. Two of the best puzzle games in years, make no mistake.

I beat all of Meteos modes by scribbling on the screen.

Even with that aside the game is boring, and completely overrated. I've had Meteos since launch and picked up Lumines recentely (about a month or two ago) and talk about an amazing puzzle game. Still play it almost everyday. One of the greatest puzzle games ever created.

Meteos on the other hand sucks.

I don't really get what you mean here by "beat" the modes. If you mean you played enough to unlock all the planets simply by scribbling then that must of taken a hell of a lot of time not having fun. The scribbling thing has never worked for me and its all about strategy, doing different things on the different levels and most of all being fast, very very fast, something that (in 1 player at least) Tetris DS is missing because Meteos gets crazy very quickly. Haven't played it in ages (and now lost my styli) but I used to think it was the best DS game out of those I've played

I have sort of a love hate relationship with Meteos. On the one hand it's a really well done game, and I appreciate it for all the cool things it does, but on the other hand I can never really accomplish anything when playing it because it gets too fast for me to keep up with.

I haven't tried Tetris DS yet, but Meteos is way up there on my list of top DS games. Before Meteos, the only puzzle game I continually returned to was Tetris for the original GB.

BTW, someone tell me why Tetris DS is superior to other past iterations of Tetris. I keep hearing it's great, but I'm curious as to how it's better than, say, the original.

It just has a lot of different ways to play and also keeps the original intact. It's also kind of cool to watch how your progress unfolds through old Nintendo games. Right now, I would say, it's the only tetris game you'll ever need.

There are loads of different new modes which whilst still being Tetris, add something new and exciting. I think the wi-fi is a main draw for many though I've never tried it. I still played the old game boy Tetris the other day and it plays very different so would disagree that the DS version is the only Tetris game you'll need. I think there's space for at least both of those versions, and, of course, Meteos which is completely brilliant although I haven't played it in ages and when I went to the other day found out my stylus is lost.

Hey Beavertown - he agrees, so what's the problem?

I love Meteos. Especially because it's one of a small handful of video games my wife will actually play. This, Crystal Balls on the Touchmaster coin-op, and Super Monkey Ball (Monkey Target). I'm not a huge puzzle game fan, but the game is a ton of fun.

I love Meteos. It's been a while since I've played it, I'll have to bust it back out. I have to say that I think I prefer it to Tetris DS. Don't get me wrong, I love Tetris, and Tetris DS is one of the best iterations of it, but I tend to prefer Meteos just because it's something new, something different. And I like the frantic pace while playing multiplayer.

I don't have a PSP (I refuse to pay that much for a handheld, especially one by a company that is notorious for having shoddy first generation hardware), but if I did Lumines would definitely be something I'd buy. I've heard so many good things about it, I'd love to give it a try.

You might not have to get a PSP to play it, the sequel is being developed for both PSP and the PS2.

I would love to see someone try to accomplish something in multiplayer by scribbling on the screen. Playing with my group, you'd get buried.

Supposedly a sequel to Meteos is in the works, named (and no, I am not kidding)... Meteos: Disney Edition. Make of this what you will, but I don't suppose the truth will out until E3.
