Never owned the system till now. LOL :P I was at a local Gamestop and picked up the system w/ memory expansion along with a memory card Zelda OoT and Banjo Kazooie for around $40. Not sure if I overpaid or not (probably did) Now I'll be on the look out for some other good titles that I never had the chance to play. One title I'm curiouse about is Excitebike64 since I loved the original on the NES. :) The other system on my to get list is a SNES so I can re-live and re play the great games of my teenage years and also try out some titles that I never did back in the day. :)

You didn't do too bad. The expansion pack adds value, and the Banjo game is popular. Excitebike is AWESOME. Very deep gameplay and lots to unlock. Great graphics! The original NES version in unlockable as is a very cool version based on the original tracks but comprised of polygons. There's really a lot in there if you spend the time... it's much deeper than your typical arcade racer. Have fun. You can get loose carts CHEAP!

Congrats on your purchase! The N64's not a favorite system of mine but there are a few gems in there. BTW I love Excitebike for the NES and hate the N64 one, but it's cheap enough that you should check it out anyway.

Keep an eye out for a used SNES in our buying and selling forum. They show up there all the time -- and more systems means more games out there for the buying!!

Hey good find man,a snes shouldn't be hard to find I
found 2 (powerdeck only) for 2$ or so, if you find just a powerdeck you can use the AV cables from the 64 and powersupply from a nes.

Have fun collecting

n64 is a great system - good job

Make sure to try to find Mario 64, Tetrisphere, Paper Mario, Mario Golf and Mario Tennis

All my faves :D (there are probably others, I'm just listing the ones I've played lately)

you're right about the av cables but you'll still need an ac adaptor, the snes had a snes-specific connector on it unfortuantly.[/quote]

I think it may be on the PAL version only?

PAL version uses the same as a nes.

I remember my NTSC looking different from my NES. Although I can't remember the last time I looked at the back of either.

Mariokart 64 for sure. It's my fav of the series. Multiplayer is a blast. I've never been much of a 64 fan so I can't reccomend anything else off the top of my head.

This list (http://ign64.ign.com/index/choice.html) is pretty good. :)

You can't go wrong with any of the 1st party multiplayer titles. If it has Mario in front of it, it's a sure bet.

Of course, Goldeneye, as long as you don't play a lot of modern FPS games, as it's lost some of its luster graphically.

I really like Blitz on N64 as well.

Some of the more popular games (that you probably allready know to get) that are very good are Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., and Goldeneye. Of course, don't forget about getting the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which in my (and many other peoples) opinion is one of the best games ever made for any console. The other Zelda game (Majora's Mask is also very good but requires the expansion pack).

However, the N64 is a console that you shouldn't shy away from the sports games. There are a lot of sports games like 1080 snowboarding, WCW/NWO Revenge/World Tour, WWF Wrestlemania, NFL Blitz (any one), International Soccer Superstar (especially 2000) that are really fun to play as well.

good price for what you got i think the n64 is one the cheapest older game systems you can pick up these days at least is around here where i live.there few great games you can buy for it am sure for cheap.there is not alot a love the poor n64 so i think it gets overlook.the snes might cost you more depending on what it comes with but it got a huge selection of games for you to pick from so that would a good buy on your part if you are looking to get one.

How can you guys overlook StarFox 64, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, and F-Zero X? LOL Probably the only three games on the N64 I really enjoyed. That's just me though, a lot of people love the system and the games. Yeah there were other games I played on the system but never as much as the three above.

I would suggest:

Get 1 Mario Party game, just one because it's all you'll need, all the rest are about the same (button mashing, timing, and joy stick burns).

Grab yourself Quake II, Perfect Dark, and Jet Force Gemini for first person shooters. If you like these then also buy Quake I, Goldeneye 007, Doom64, and Duke Nukem Zero Hour. A lot of people hate the Turok games but you should give them a try at least.

Pick up Bomberman64 and Bomberman Hero. The story mode was difficult to me (because it was hard to understand) but they have a great multi-player mode and options. Quite fun.

All the games that have Mario in the titles are pretty good!

I would suggest in order:

Goldeneye-(My opion the best game on the platform)
Zelda-ocarina of time
Perfect Dark
All the Mortal Kombats
Space Invaders
I was never a sports gamer enthusiast but if that's your gig there are plenty out there.

I do play modern FPS on the XBOX but I may still check that out. :)

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! 8-) A few that have been mentioned are already on my list to get.

World Driver Championship. Gran Turismo on that "other" system stole the spotlight from this fantastic hardcore racer.

Generally get anything that was developed by Rare. They were the N64's king of developers. Sucked every last ounce of performance out of that little console and created videogame magic every time.

Perfect Dark looks pretty damn amazing in hi-rez mode using the expansion pack. Sometimes the expansion pack will increase the resolution and textures, but then the framerate gets hit hard. Turok 2 is almost unplayable in hi-rez mode. It outputs some pretty screenshots though. Rogue Squadron as well suffers from dramatic framerate drops after jumping to hi-rez. Perfect Dark seems to handle it a lot better.

Also if you have 2 controllers you can setup dual analogs with Perfect Dark :)

Another game I want to recommend is Blast Corps. This game has awesome written all over it.

Finally I just have to comment on F-Zero X. One of the biggest problems with the N64, and most consoles as they age, is framerate. F-Zero X is one of the few N64 titles that runs at a flawless 60fps. I highly recommend picking it up, it runs like butter.
