Yes, videogames helped me in school, in various ways. Ways, that I still find myself using today, 14 years after I first used the NES to my success. Sure, it might be truely sad, or just a testament to how much they affect me/us.

In 1st grade we started spelling words and writing sentences after kindergarten primed you with the alphabets. I remember we were learning days of the week and how to spell them. I was having such a hard time with the middle day, Wednesday. My mom said think of a trick, break it apart so you can remember how to spell it. What was my favorite toy above all else in 1st grade? My Nintendo. That's right, I got my spelling test back with Wed-NES-day spelled correctly. Yup, I love my Nintendo Entertainment System.

Oh, the other way was a 14 page paper + 15 min+ power point presentation I did for my Art & Politics class on how videogames have influence society and vice versa. Needless to say, I got an A, but I question wether my teacher actually read the whole thing.

So, how has (if at all) Videogames helped you in school?

I ran pretty fast from the bus stop to play Odyssey 2.

NES was out by then but I was happy.

That didnt really help my grades out any... in fact by about 1pm I was completely zoned out dreaming about getting home and playing that one game.. had cowboys shooting at eachother.. kinda like VCS Combat.. but with cowboys.

I've written countless papers on video game topics for college. For example for my microcomputer class I did a 20 minute power point presentation of the advancement of video game systems. It was great my proffesor gave me a 110 for a grade. The higest grade in the class!!!

Another time was when I was in my political science class. I wrote a paper on the game thrill to kill and how many politicions wanted to ban arcades and so on. I got a perfect score on my paper, but he took points of for not wearing a tie.

I love Videogames!!!

Video games helped much my hand-eye coordination for gym classes and helped me improve my vocab..along with getting into debates with friends and teachers on video games and society.

I wrote a paper about video game violence in college for my Deviant Behavior class. I was the only one who got a 100% A+ on the paper. I was also the only one who used GamePro as a "professional journal" LOL

In one college class we had to do a major presentation on why an investor should invest in a particular company's stock. I picked EA, and touted (among other things) it's strong sports brands, continuous revenue streams through games like Ultima Online, and diversified lineup across all platforms. My inability to speak in front of people without convulsing hurt my score a bit, but the teacher loved the actual presentation complete with transparencies, charts, and product samples. :)

My Nintendo Game Watches, and my Atari Lynx helped me weather the boredom of numerous Saturday Schools and In School Suspensions(ISS). I was a troublemaker. :-D

going to see how they can help me now. taking a film class and have to explain something in 60 seconds. going to explain how to DDR in that time (just the steps and basic concept). the next is for Contemporary issues in Native American Art. I'm searching for games featuring Indians and other indigious peoples and how they are sterotyped. (all the education and still can't spell). wish me luck.

ps. have a good list of games, but looking for more about stereotypes and Indigious peoples.
