Today my university had a mass yard sale in one of its parking lots, and while only two vendors had any game related stuff, one vendor did have a core magnavox cd-i system for 3 bucks.

Now, I don't own any other stuff related to cd-i, and I don't really have the money to go bulk up the collection after that. So, is that something you guys would buy in anticipation, or would you just wait until you were ready to "commit" to a certain system?

I would grab it, and just throw it in the closet or something. Just because you bought the core system, that does not all of a sudden obligate you to buy all the hookups and some games. Just store it away, and if you ever have the chance to pick up some CD-i stuff on the cheap, well you already have the system itself.

For $3, why not?

It's only 3 bucks, may as well

If it was boxed, I'd buy it. I only buy systems boxed.

For 3 bucks, I wouldn't have been asking that question to the board. I would have been bragging. LOL

Yeah, I know. LOL I picked up a loose JVC X'Eye years ago for $2 and had gotten completely out of the Genesis market years before (really still am). Still didn't stop me from getting it running - a victim of the infamous bad lid close pinswitch. I have picked up a few Sega CD games since, only when complete and cheap. I also worked out the US/JPN mod for the cartridge side so I can play my lone Japanese Mega Drive game, which I only have because I'm hoping to complete a collection of every game released based upon the Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon anime and manga series.

Will I ever go Genesis or Mega Drive crazy? No. Do I like having an X'Eye, especially one I've been able to tweak? Hell yes. Would I have paid the $100 or so a complete one sits around on eBay? Probably not.

For the money, grab it and shove it aside as Jibbajaba said. For all you know you may come across a bunch of games and accessories in a couple weeks or a few years. Also there's always the chance that someone in Buying and Selling will toss up a high cash bounty for it - I've seen them appear for far more common stuff. ;)

Whenever I can get something super cheap like that I just take it as trade bait. Unfortunately those instances are becoming more and more rare.

I got a cd-1 on a deal (i think like 15 or 20 or something), and I only have 3 games for it.

The same with my sms, i got it for 20, and only own 2 games for it.

Usually if i get a system that i don't plan on collecting for, i will buy 2 or 3 games just to test it and makes sure that it works, but that is about it.

its only $3 so you should pick it up and hold on to it.you could use it to trade for something you really want or you could start collecting games for it at some point in time.
