We all know the 360 puts out alot of heat. I for one am paranoid I have read all of the horror stories. I prefer to keep my 360 horizontal. My unit was always very warm to the touch.
The other day my friend told me of a new accessory for the 360 call the intercooler. he said ever since he installed it the 360 has been cool as ice.
I for one am afraid of gimmicks so I tried to do my research. ever where I looked it was all sold out. I figured there must be something to this. Well finally using the Gamestop product availibility locator on there website. I found one at a local store and I must say it is a great device.
The unit snaps into the power supply and it has 3 fans running it even has an on and off switch. It looks like a natural part of the 360.
To be honest I would be a good move for microsoft to cut a deal and add them to the 360 permanently. The total drop in heat is amazing. The fans are constantly blowing out warm air and after 2 hours of constantly running the sides and top of the unit are amazingly cool to the touch.
You can find it you just have to do your research. check the gamestop store locator by zip. If you find on chances are that its there. Call the store and ask them to hold it.
Price is 19.99. well worth it.
Stay away from the pelican fan stand. Most store had them in stock but most Managers said the intercooler goes out as soon as it comes in and is by far the best. This one gets my total 2 thumbs up.
Good Luck link below.

I've seen these--my only concern is the noise. How loud is it? My 360 already sounds like a vaccum when it fires up, so I don't know if I'd want MORE fans making noise. Still, I'm intrigued, especially since my first 360 overheated/died, even though I made sure it got plenty of airflow (its on wireframe shelving for crying out loud). I don't want my second one to die too.

Every time I see a side of the 360 with all those holes that are supposed to be cut out but arent, I cant help but laugh.

The fan has an on and off switch. The fan sound for me is acceptable. I think that after a few sittings you can get use to it. The thing that makes it worth it is when I place my hand over the rear. The thing is blowing out some warm air. Where the top of my 360 use to be hot now it is room temp or cooler.
The funny thing is the 360 is known for making alot of noise. I didn't think about it until you said something. To me though it is not overbearing. Try it out. I can guarentee you can sell it if you don't like it. They are really hard to find. At least for now.

This item is both nifty and pathetic at the same time.

I think the industry should instead keep producing systems with 16 bit processors at 4-16 MHz, I feel we haven't fully explored the potential of this format. :D

I had an old crt without all the holes punched in, never had any problems with it.

Yeah But I had an original 1st run grey psx
The problems started small a skip there a skip here until eventually I had to turn it upside down for fmv. The guy that repaired it said the lens got warped from the heat of the power supply.
sony repositioned the lens in future models.
I just think heat and an optical lens don't do well together. Also factor in the xbox360 300-400 price tag for a replacement. or a 100-200 repair cost. I call it preventive maintenance.

Power supply got moved, actually. You can't move the lens. It *has* to be in that position.

When you opened the lid on the grey units I thought they moved the lens unit from the 9'oclock to 12'00 oclock position to the 3 o'clock to six o'clock one.

I reviewed the Intercooler! (http://www.dontpressstart.com/art/060501.html) Those readers prone to heart failure or a weak bladder are advised NOT to click the picture or previous sentence.
I took the picture like three days ago and it's amazing how quickly threads get pushed down around here.

I think that this is a wonderful way to fix a ridiculous problem that should NEVER of been an issue.
Shame on microsoft
Make better consoles
If I ever DO buy a 360, it will be when they utilize the new CPU architecture and all the bugs are worked out. This one appears to be a piece of crap.

It's funny now gamestop has it listed on there front homepage as a best seller. Companies are so weird if something is a peice of crap the shelves are fully stocked and you can find it anywhere. If something is really good and you actually want it there is only 3 available in the state.
