View Full Version : what classic system nags on you but you don't buy?

In other words, which classic system do you almost want to buy at times, but for whatever reasons, never do? Why? I was in this situation this past month, and the past 4 months with SNES, Genesis and NES. Now I have all three systems with 50+ games for each, LOL.

Also, I bought a GBA SP 2 after telling myself in 2005 I'd never succumb to the SP era.

Honestly, these 4 systems are freaking AWESOME and I think a must-have for all classic gamers.

Is there a system you sometimes wonder about owning, but never got around to investing in? This could be a dangerous topic... as you may be "converted" should someone quote your passage and explain with a list of reasons why... but c'mon, play along I think this topic has a chance to be a very fun (and good) read.

As for me, none at the moment. With the purchases of NES/SNES/GEN/GBA SP 2 I have all the classic systems I have ever seriously wondered about owning.

My closest system would be a Neo Geo CD. But I never got one because I own a Saturn and they have a fair share of very solid SNK ports. And DC too.

I keep saying I'm going to buy a neo geo but I just never can find the cash to do it. Soon or Later

Any number of systems come to mind. I guess the ones that I think about the most is a Genny 1 w/ CD 1 and a TG-16 w/TG-CD. The Genny more than the TG.

I can't count the number of times I've looked at them on ebay and thought "should I?"

I'm suprised I haven't bought a Genny bundle yet. I took a trip to Chicago with my family in 1990. I stocked up on gaming mags for the drive and spent the entire time fantasizing about the featured Sega CD (Probably EGM). It looked so awesome. I need ot get a hold of that old mag, anybody have a copy? Anyway, as many times as I reflect on that memory I should have broke down and got a hold of one by now. I guess the price & condition are never right at the right time.

32x, but i know there's nothing on it (apart from t-mek) but it looks great on a megadrive stack..

Sega Saturn.
I have one, and I have games that came with it (garage sale) but can't seem to collect for it...just never really interested.

5200. I have some games for it, and in fact, I did buy one years and years ago, but of course, the controllers were broken. I've wanted the system for a long time, so I'm sure I'll get one eventually.

Definitely a PC-Engine and a Master System. The PC-Engine because when I was a kid I so wanted to have one. I looked at the pictures and screenshots for hours and hours....Well, it didn't make it any easier that the PC-Engine never was officially released in Europe...

Having owned a Mega Drive/Genesis, though not during it's hey-day, I always thought about getting a Master System as well. I love my NES and adore the games on it because of their simplicity (if I might call that so...), so the Master System would be the ideal partner to it.

I'll probably never buy either though, at least not unless I stumble upon one of them in the wild, which isn't very probable over here...

As far as systems I want to play with, I have pretty much everything I need. (Though I'm wondering whether or not to get into superguns) But I do have some gaps I need to fill, I just find it "wrong" that I don't own a ColecoVision, Atari 5200-7800, and I wouldn't mind having some of the pre-2600 consoles. I also don't have a Dreamcast, N64 or Gamecube. I need to fix that...

I want an NES but the only places I could buy one are in Gamestation bundled with Mario Bros/Duck Hunt and a zapper all loose for £35 (!), or anything over £25 on ebay.

It's just not worth it to me.

JVC X'Eye, but only because I never have the money when I encounter an opportunity to purchase one. The rest I purchase once I've decided to get one, because up to now the systems I've purchased have been readily available.

Any of the Neo-Geo home consoles, aes, mvs or cd. I know they'll be mine eventually, I'm just delaying the inevitable...

I've been wanting to buy a TG16 or Turbo Duo and could be saving up now but am not, Since i think that if i do buy one, i'll just find one the next day for dirt cheap and really regret buying the one online.

Sega anything, from Genesis on. I really want to get into these consoles but I simply have absolutely nowhere to put all the stuff I have now. Once I move out I'll have a lot more room to just have 'stuff', and I'll probably get a lot more classic stuff.

1. Sega Saturn
2. Game.com

There are so many Saturn games that are right up my alley. I think it's a great system, and I definitely need to add it to my collection some day. The two things stopping me are first, it's too expensive, and second, I haven't run out of games to collect and play for the systems that I already own.

As for Game.com, yes, I realize it sucks. I just want one though, okay? And a complete collection.

As long as Ive collected, Ive been meaning to pick up a TG16 and a TurboExpress. I just cant bring myself to do it...
I also really want to buy an SP2 but just cant bring myself to get one. I dont know why I keep putting it off.

The NEC TurboGrafx-16 and the Sony PlayStation. In fact, I almost bought a boxed PlayStation today for CDN $25 but turned it down. Maybe one day I'll break down and buy them. I had a TG-16 for about a week when I was younger, and have wanted one again for a while now. I have wanted a PlayStation to play the Gran Turismo and Need For Speed games for a while too. Maybe one day...

That makes two of us. I have a box full of games for the system. 30+. But I never got around to buying an Atari 5200, just not interested in it. Probably should just sell off the games.

intellivision, sega nomad, and turbo express

for some reason i keep dodging away from the intellivision. i think it's mainly because i know one will fall into my lap somehow sooner or later. even though i have a box of games for the damn thing, i just don't seem to ever go through with it.

i do however actually want a sega nomad pretty badly, yet every time i seem to get it in my head that i'm going to buy one, i end up spending my money elsewhere.

and lastly the turbo express, man everyone wants one of these things. they obviously kick ass, look at whats to offer. and they don't seem to be so short in supply, but pricey, yes, oh yes they're pricey.

SNES, Genesis, and Dreamcast.

It's the SNES all the way.

It's got a library that contains so many easily available kick-ass games. And that's precisely why I don't buy it. I would sink so much money into it in so short a time that I figure that it's safer not to even go there.

I do own a NES, several N64s and a Genny though.

SMS for me. I always wanted to get one before the Genesis came out. But if I got one now, it would be way too much of an investment for me. Because then I wouldn't be able to stop collecting for it until I had all the games for it. And that includes the ones from Brazil. They're still making new games for it in Brazil, aren't they? Or did they finally stop?

AES, TG-16, and SMS. They're real teases for me since I'm not real big on buying stuff online. The SMS is especially killing me right now because I happen to own quite a few games for it, even a SMS controller pad, but no system :(

For old stuff, I would love to get a RCA Studio boxed to go with my complete game collection. I feel pretty stupid not having one yet, although I will never play it. Arcadia 2001 because I do have games, and I would love to get one boxed. Thirdly a turbo duo so I can finally play Dracula X. Lastly, I would love to finally get a DS and experience Nintendo brilliance.

Easily the SegaCD system. There's a few stores I go to that tell me they sell it for $8-12 depending on condition and version complete. Looking on Ebay it's genearlly bulked with crap I don't want at all and other places around here that DO have the system sell for $60 and looks like complete junk. All dusty, doesn't have cords, and it's at like 3 pawn shops that don't know jack crap about game business. So I've held out for a good few years and from time to time buy SegaCD games in hopes of getting the system one day. :)

It WAS Turbografix 16, but I recently recieved mine in the mail with a turbobooster and kieth courage.

Now that I have it though, my next put off system may very well be a Neo Geo.

The Sega Saturn at the local game crazy has had my eye for about 2 months now. Yet I still haven't bought it.

I have 3 Saturn games and dont have a system.

And I swear I will buy a PS2 when the prices (new) are $99 or less. No sooner.

Well it was a ColecoVision but ive got that now Probably after that a Neo Geo AES, 3DO, TG16, and a SMS but right now im just out of Room but the one thing that ive been itching for is a Famicom but they are harder to find and decent ones too.

I just picked up a Neo Geo Pocket Color and it is a cool hand held been enjoying that lately

Super Famicom.

Specifically the rather cute new Jr model. I did have a SF, a launch day original in fact, but that was sold years ago. Thing is, I have enough consoles hooked up already. I can easily think of games I want, but then I compare them to what I already have. Contra, Castlevania and Final Fight are all better in their MD/MCD incarnation too.

Maybe one day.

The only system that I really would like to get is the Sega Saturn. I have played it only a couple of times, but there seems to be a great selection of games for the system, especially imports. It just kind of slipped under the radar around the time it came out. It will be my next purchase for retro gaming.

For me its the Neo Geo AES. I would love to have one, but it is just so cost prohibitive for me. Someday when I have the room, I would like to get an MVS, but the AES is so tempting. One of the craziest systems to ever get a home release.

Anything I don't already have.
Mega-CD, Jaguar, Jaguar-CD, Lynx. intellivision
All of which I have games for (many many games for the mega-cd)
But I also have consoles with no games
Game Gear, TG16 (no power cord either)

but basicly, anything I don't have. ;)

I own over a dozen different systems, but none by Atari. I've been meaning to get an Atari system for a long time. The last time I owned an Atari system was when I briefly had a Jaguar back in 1995. I want a Jaguar again, and a Lynx (it was my first handheld), and a 7800, and a 5200. And maybe an XE or ST.

Yeeeeeah right :( have yet to find it and im still searching hard for it, the big Duo purchase is probably better instead but im thinkin i can still find that card.

The 32X is definitely one of them. But the reason it's nagging at me to buy one is because I'm very close to having a complete 32X collection. I always ask myself "Why do I have all but 2 32X games but no console?"
The answer is simple: I want to say that I've completed a collection of games without owning any hardware AND becuase I've heard the games suck. ;)

I've been looking into the PC-FX, and Sega Nomad. The Nomad, I've actually had bids on but didn't win at the price I was willing to pay. I'd go for it for about $50 hooked up with a battery pack and decent screen. I ended up getting a DS instead, so now I really don't need another handheld. I really just want to be able to play ToeJam & Earl on the go!! But who doesn't?

The PC-FX, I think I want just to play a couple games and because its one of the few systems that came after the NES that I don't own. I might like to pick up Chip Chan Kick and one or two others! But yeah, this would be more of a luxury and it would take up space I don't really have for another system.

The Neo Geo systems interest me too, but I'm not a huge fighter fan. MVC2 pretty much fills that quota.

I think I have just been convincing myself that I need everything, collecting these are more than half of the fun, but in reality I already have more systems/games than I could complete in the next 2 years.
