View Full Version : DP Game Reviews UPDATE

Matt Paprocki shadows these forums from time to time under the handle "gamereviewgod". Matt has been writing game reviews for Digital Press for quite some time now but while incapacitated for the past two weeks he's just gone completely nuts.

In 9 days, I received 74 game reviews from him.

They're not all current games, and many were lifted from the pages of his late 90's fanzine, but they've been "remixed" and put into DP format and I'm proud to say I've finally got them ALL online. :hail:

I'll be adding some "window dressing" to many of these over the next day or two but they're complete content-wise, you can find them all right here:
http://www.digitpress.com/reviews.htm

NOTE: we've now got over 500 game reviews there so the inded may take some time to load. I'm working now on an alternative to selecting games that won't force the whole menu on you up front.

UPDATE: added a bunch of Greg Wilcox ("Did YOU Know?") reviews as well. Greg is great at reporting the "sleepers" so don't miss his reviews on N64 Body Harvest, PlayStation Omega Boost and Rising Zan, PS2 Sub Rebellion, and more!

That sure is a sweet update.
Paprocki is a critical guy though... low scorse. Not that I mind though.

1 problem, when I click silent hill, I get body harvest.

Took you long enough Joe! :D Thanks and never fear, more are on the way!

Critical comes from critic.....works for me! :) I don't believe in giving perfect scores (I don't think I'ever ever given one actually), and can rip just about any game known to man.....It's what I do. Thanks!

Oops I'll fix that Silent Hill thing. Thanks for pointing it out!

:embarrassed: and to think i initially thought "gamereviewgod" was a pompous-sounding handle. one baked crow with ginger & garlic stuffing on a baguette for me!... :-D

oh yeah, happy 12,000th post, DP!

Though I've been a little slow getting them all uploaded, there are roughly two dozen new reviews uploaded this weekend, including some classics on the Dreamcast and some of the more recent Xbox titles like Red Dead Revolver and Chronicles of Riddick.

Just thought I'd give you a heads' up as this was a significant update.

Enjoy!

When are you going to update the format on some of the reviews to macth the red and black theme of Digitalpress. I might still have the lists fo the ones that need to be fixed if you need them.

I have the lists you sent me - it's on my endless list of things to do! Thanks again for sending those along, as I've said many times here: nothing ever goes to waste or gets forgotten. :)

Hiatus officially over. Major site maintenance completed today...

After the "Atari 2600 Barrage" last month and the recent update of Mr. Paprocki's game reviews, the DP site now boasts OVER ONE THOUSAND game reviews!

There are at least a hundred more from past DP paper issues that I have to get to. In the meantime, if you haven't checked out the retro reviews here on the site, give it a look!

I'm damned impressed. When are you going to put out a book?

Seriously. Check into that with some publishers and see if anyone bites.

That's a damn good idea Dan. That would be something I'd be more than willing to take on with some help.

Having read some of your blog's reviews a while back, I don't understand how you're not working for a major publication (or at the very least a local free weekly). I mean, you're a great game AND movie reviewer in one.

So what kind of pay and benefits are you offering Doc? I can have a resume in the mail tomorrow. LOL

Seriosuly, thanks. I appreciate it. I've applied to numerous pubs, sites, and papers, but have yet to get a response to anything other than Sci-Fi weekly who told me they would come in contact if they wanted anything. Go figure. Oh well, maybe someday.

Now, looking at the figures, we've had 500 new reviews in a little over a year and half. That's probably more than most major gaming sites put out in that same period and we've got reviews of real obscure stuff (Dire51 really digs some odd stuff up).

Yeah, I need to crank a few more out myself. I think I have two or three up. Sly Cooper (ps2) and Ikaruga (GCN) for sure.

Please do send them along! As Mr. Paprocki can attest, every good review finds its home within our review pages. The older the better, though - it's pretty hard to find other sites with reviews on Atari 2600, 3DO, and SNES games these days!

...And I'm guilty of being behind in the batch of reviews I told Joe I'd write... (looking at my hand-written notes, wondering if I oughta maybe write it just now)

Huge update to this section. We've now got Wonderswan reviews! Also, Dire 51 has completed some epic 2600 reviews (it's amazing how much he can squeak out of a game that simple and keep you reading), Joe popped up a few himself (Great Final Fantasy one), and a ton of mine are up there, including recent stuff like Resident Evil 4, Mech Assault 2, and more. Check it out!

Let me restate myself, since I didn't proofread my post (Unlike my reviews which I do proof).

I hope Joe publishes the review I sent him of "Skies of Arcadia" soon. Next up in the pike are reviews of "Maqiupai" and "Inhabitants." 8-)

Just a note that if you've written anything over the past few weeks, Joe has got them all online. If you notice any mistakes or editing errors in something you sent me, just let me know. Thanks to all who contributed to this update and a pre-thanks to everyone who's going to (right?). :)

Some updates over the weekend, including an explosion to the PSP section. Still more that need to be posted whenever Joe actually has the time, including more DS and a stack of 32X reviews (Trying to have a complete set of reviews for the latter by the end of the month).

Check 'em out!

If you've written anything over the past few weeks, they've all been submitted. If they're not up, don't worry. They will be.

Yeah, sorry for the delays in getting these online. I really do try to squeeze some time in for this stuff but there's always SO MUCH TO DO around here! So I'll just keep chippin' away - no well-written review ever gets ignored... just a little "held up".

oh DS and 32X, i need to incorporate those into my game lists....

No prob Joe. I'm holding off on the edits so you can get caught up. Take your time.

Lots of stuff going on over there in that review section. There's a complete section of 32X reviews, minus Star Trek and Kunckles Chaotix. The PSP and DS reviews are filled, so if you're looking for some new games for your handhelds, we have a place to look (and there are still more pending, including new stuff like Kirby and Coded Arms). Some sporadic updates elsewhere, including lots of reviews by authors completely new to the DP review team.

Tylerwillis especially has been making his way through a TON of current gen and classic RPGs, Chris Coleman likes his Game Boy titles, and Doug Jackson has provided a nice variety. If I haven't mentioned you, don't think you're not appreciated. There are only so many writers I can remember! ;)

Folks, it's happened. The record has been broken. Maybe it wasn't as fast, but it's happened. The old record of 74 reviews in an update has been shattered.

Close to 100 new reviews are now posted!

Not sure of the full count, but it's over 90. That's a massive update.

On a side note, if while you're reading you come across any major mistakes, let me know. Joe handed over the reigns since his time will be short when he opens his store, and I now handle the review department. I know of a few text problems where pics are squeezing/blocking it, and I'm going to be taking care of that in a bit. However, if there's a dead link, no link, no review, pic not showing up, etc, let me know!

I really really really need to do some reviews....

Of course i was thinkin about playing through some burned Sega CD games in an emu so I could take screenshots. Acceptable? I'll consider doing one for chaotix too, since it's one of my favorite games ever.

great to see new reviews, a list would be nice though so i don't have check all systems i'm doing lists for for new ones ;) (you know, the reviews have to be linked in the DB)

On the suggestion of Hydrox, we have a thread in the Collector's Guide forum that will have every new review posted in it. Obviously, this is for the editors of the guide to help them link reviews in the database. However, it also makes it easier for anyone looking to keep up on that ever-growing section, and I won't have to bump this ever again (even though we have the first DP Xbox 360 review!). Here's the thread:

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=861103

And with that, good bye review page update thread. We've had some good times, but you've been replaced by a newer model.
