Just like what the subject said, can a Japanese Sega CD RAM cart work on American units? I was thinking about getting a Japanese Sega CD RAM cart from japangamestock.com for about 20 bucks. But I'm not too sure if the RAM cart will work on my Genesis 2/Sega CD 2 unit. Since the RAM cart is not really a game, I think it should work just fine. But still, I'm not too sure about this.

It sure does, I've used one with my Genesis 2 just fine. However, it's been awhile since I've plugged it in and I can't remember if you've got to start the Genesis in Japanese mode before it works or not. Either way, it's a simple mod. Plus you obviously have to expand the cartridge slot for it to fit.

Just about to say that, and remember it involves more than simply cutting out the little tabs at the top. Japanese Mega Drive cartridges are almost square compared to the thin one-curved-side of a Genesis cart.

I know, I own some Megadrive imports. ;)

Anyway, I don't have a region mod on my Genny 2. But can it still work in US mode?

I'll have to hook my Sega CD up to it and see what happens. I know I used it successfully with the US version of Shining Force CD so I know the Sega CD was running in US mode, but I don't know if the Genesis itself was running in US mode.

OK man thanks, and let me know if it works in US mode. ;)
