Here's an odd little question...

Back in the early-to-mid 80's, when video game liscensing ran rampant, there were tons of video game related food items.

Everything from Pac-Man spaghetti-o's to Nintendo Cereal.

For those of you old enough to remember, wht was your favorite video game food?

I loved Donkey Kong and DKjr cereal. Donkey Kong cereal tasted like Capn' Crunch, but looked like little barrels. DKjr. cereal was better. It had fruit flavored bits and wasn't yet another CC knockoff.

But my favorite had to be the lemon flavored Pac-Man popsicles that had the Fruit Punch flavored ghosts also in the box. They tasted like sherbert.

Later they added pink lemonade flavored Ms. Pac-Man's.

I used to eat Pac Man cereal. That cereal was grub because it had marshmallow ghosts.

I have a pack of promo gummy snacks for the boogerman game, there are still sealed even though I doubt the candy is any good anymore, maybe I should dig that out of storage sometime

I still have the pac-man trading cards from when I was about 11.They had games on them that you would scratch off trying not to hit a ghost.I guess the only food related thing is it came with a stick of crusty gum.

I used to eat that DK cereal all the time. LOL Yup just like you pointed out it was pretty much a CC ripoff but a damn tasty one at least. :D

Super Mario Bros. / Legend Of Zelda cereal was my cereal of choice.

I also used to get Game Gear Buggle Gum / Trading Card cases (the ones shaped like a game gear.)

I used to eat all those cereals as a kid until I discovered that they were made by Ralston, as in Ralston-Purina the pet food company. Still I do remember that the zelda one was pretty tastey.

Though I am not old enough to remember those or have had some of those, there is one that I do remember(there might be more game related food but this came to mind), Sonic Spaghettio's, that is about all the gaming related food that I can remember at the moment. They were good, if you like spaghettios.

LOL ..kids. :)

I used to eat all that stuff, even if it tasted terrible. As I got older I pushed that trend aside. LOL I have a box of these from a few years ago that somehow has survived the temperature changes and high summer humidity here...

Also Nintendo fruit snacks are still made (nothing like they used to be, but fruit snacks are nothing like they were in the mid 80's as a whole now days anyway) and they're alright.

Those were great! I still have a few of mine, in my old sticker album from when I was a kid.

I wonder if that gum would still be good, nowadays? Baseball card gum supposedly has an infinite shelf life. It just gets harder with age.. LOL

I definitley remember the Sonic Spaghettios. I recall a promo where some of the labels gave you a chance to win a Game Gear and other assorted Sonic stuff.

I also remember these Super Mario Bros. cookies. I used to love those.

I fleetingly remember Pac Man pasta from Chef Boyardee. I remember first grade, I'd go to school with my Pac Man lunchbox, and eat Pac Man pasta out of the thermos. Later I had an Atari lunchbox. Or maybe it was the other way around...

I do remember the Nintendo Cereal System well. I didin't like the SMB cereal very much on account of I don't like fruit cereals. I'd just eat the bag of Zelda cereal.

Those were good, but does anybody remember this? (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=68186) <-click

Yoshi was the best flavor I remember. Wasn't Donkey Kong root beer flavored?

Oooh, I was 4 around the time of NES and SNES....I ate sooooo much Nintendo cereal, the original one. Now remember, it was made out of hobos and cardboard. I think I'm sterile from the cereal! LOL

Honestly they all tasted like crap to me so I never really ate them. However I bought a case of them (as in the large box filled with these 12 count boxes) when I was working for Target Corporation and always had a box of them open for the taking in my office. I originally kept two sealed ones but awhile ago some of my cousins wanted them so I opened a box and they were eaten. This last box will remain sealed however, until the candies go to pot. LOL

Man, I definitely remember eating boxes and boxes of Kraft Dinner shaped like the Super Mario Bros. characters. I'm not sure why, but I always seemed to like the taste (even though they all tasted the same) of Princess. I remember my friend would always save all the Princesses off of his plate and give them to me because I liked them so much.
MMMmmm... Princess.

I remember eating Bubble gum that came from plastic cases that resembled gameboys. I think there were tips for games on cards that aslo came with the gum.

I remember finding gum with Nintendo characters stamped onto the pieces at a dollar store. It looked a little shifty to begin with, but after sampling them I knew they were unliscensed. Probably some company in Taiwan trying to make a buck.

What about Life Savers or Lunchables? Though not exactly "Video Game Food", one of the main things that I bought Lunchables for was to get upc codes for that video of Sonic and Knuckles secrets. I was one away from getting it too!

I liked the little cans of mario-character soda you could get. also the turtles juice boxes if those count.

I do remember seeing the Sonic pasta though, makes sense, rings and all. I've got some ads from the sonic lifesafers promotion somewhere as well.

Ahh, the finest cross promotion in the softdrink industry, brought to you by Shasta. You know one of the local $1 stores had a bunch of those a couple years ago. It never occured to me to, I dunno, buy a few and just keep them - or even just keep the cans. As a soda connaisseur (http://www.sodaking.com) I still kick myself for being so supid. :/
