Didn't want to lump this into the Oblivion thread; as it isn't really relevant and it would just get lost!

I'm playing the PC version.

I tried Googling this, but couldn't get an answer.

On magical items there is a charge number (800/800 or whatever). When the item is discharged (0/800), how the heck do you get it recharged?

Either take it to someone in one of the mages guilds that'll charge you to recharge it, or use a filled soul gem on it. To fill a soul gem, cast Soul Trap on a creature before you kill it, and if you've got a big enough soul gem to capture that soul, you'll fill the soul gem.

Hmm, I never got into the trapping souls thing. Do you have to be a member of the mages guild to go there? I go in there and they yell at me to leave or they'll call the guards...

haha, really? Are you breaking in somewhere? Make sure you go during normal "business hours", the people who do the recharging wont offer their services in the middle of the night.

And you definitely don't have to be a member of the mages guild to go into one, thats how you get into the guild in the first place ;)

Yes, it is during normal hours. They don't say anything in the main room, but if I take the portal thing they yell at me; and the other doors in the main room are locked.

I'm talking about the one in Imperial City.

That's not a Mages Guild per se, that's the Arcane University, and you went into the Arch-Mage's private room.

In the other cities you can join the mages guild. Although it's easier to trap souls to recharge your items.

Yea, this defiantly doesn't fit in the Official Oblivion thread...

:P

Going through the quests to become accepted to the Arcane University and join the Mages Guild are well worth it, even if you are not playing a mage. The reason for this is the *free* grand soul gems sitting open in the Arcane University.

Also one of the ancient artifacts that you can find is a reusable soul gem. Don't give that one to Sean Bean, unless you want to pay for getting your magic items recharged.

Ahh ok, lol that figures...

Where is the mage's guild in Imperial City?

The more I play this game, the more I figure out!

I should sneak back into the Arch-Mage's room... as he has a Nirnroot in there and I only need 3 more LOL

This took me forever and a day to figure out: there is no mages guild in the imperial city!

So you haven't started the Ninroot quest yet? Just wait till he tells you to find more. 10 is nothing! he he he he...

Weak lol

I went to the place he suggested... but there was only 4, and they are yet to grow back!

That was just a starting place for you, to get you started. If you just wanter around rivers you will find them. I am not sure how long it takes for them to grow back.

Walk around lakes and rivers, and you will find enough. You will go crazy if you only try and find them though.

Ok, thx for the tips.

I'm 21 hours into the game now, doing odd quests and the like. I worked on the main quest a little (I have to find will-o-the-wisp dust or something, and I can't find it anywhere), and I've closed 2 Oblivion gates; currently in a third.

Nirnroot doesn't grow back, ever. Nor can you replicate it once you become head of the mages guild.

There's something like 130 total nirnroot plants in the entire world, and not all of them are outdoors. Some people have them as house plants, and there are some other odd ways to get your hands on a plant. The quest only requires you to find ultimately 100 of them which is nearly impossible as it is.

I remember it telling the general location of the willow wisps thingies. You just need a magic weapon to kill them. But I assume you have one of those by now.

I am well over 160 hrs. in now @_@

And I just started a new character.

Wouldn't happen to remember where they were, would ya? :D

Is the game too easy for some of you? Want to get bitch slapped around a bit?

I'm on my fourth character now and am exploring all of the variables in skill choice and character set up in order to settle into the "perfect" character for me. I've erased literally hundreds of hours of game file in the mean time. LOL

For my third character I wanted to see what a power levelling scenario would do. I set up my skills so that Alteration, Illusion, Destruction, Conjuration, Mysticism, Restoration and Athletics were my Major skills. You start out with low cost spells in each class and just "spam" them on yourself constantly while travelling everywhere on foot. I was level 10 within the first four hours of playing.

Problem is......your blunt, blade, block and armor rarely get used as a Minor and therefore barely level up because you level up the Majors while NOT in combat. You end up getting smoked by groups of enemies and definitely have to be on your game with this setup. Even with the difficulty slider set all the way over to the easiest setting, you still get bitch slapped hard. I had to bail on it. It was way too much. LOL

Like I said...want a challenge? Create a character in this manner and let the fun times begin. It's good for a laugh or to test your mad skillz.

I have a question that I guess I'll throw in here...

Where is the best place to sell weapons and armor...it appears like every place is capped off at 1200 gold? Is that the case or am I missing something...I have my disposition at 100. At the point of the game I'm at, I have plenty of items that are worth way more than 2400 and I don't want to sell stuff for 1200 if I can get more.

The money will go above 1200 once your mercantile skill increases. If you can get it high enough, you can then invest in stores.

I wouldn't worry about the money, Drexel. Soon enough you'll always have more than you can spend.

Interesting....I've now made an Orc with a Major skillset geared towards pure melee. Levelling is incredibly slow and the game is way too easy. Looks like it's back to a battlethiefmage for a good balance. LOL

I got Azura's Star, which is the daedric item you're pointed towards for Martin's Fun Slap-Happy Useful Item Destroying Mission. DON'T give it to the bastard. But since I'm lazy, I used the item duplication cheat (draw back your bow, double-click your arrow type, switch to the Star - that should do it, fiddle around if it won't which will probably be the case) to make something like 17 of them, and he only takes one.

Azura's Star is incredibly useful as it isn't destroyed by recharging, and it can hold very large charges (1600, a Grand soul, something like a Lich).

On the negative side, though, it's not able to hold human souls like a Black Soul Gem (which you have to manufacture from a Grand Soul Gem on Friday by placing it inside an altar on Friday at 1 am or so, maybe a bit earlier on Thursday, and cast soul trap on the altar), but that's not something I've used.

Also, something to think about: Enemies level "with" you, but if all your most-used skills are Minor skills and you never sleep to level up, you can get a powerful character at level 1 and the baddies won't have a chance. I don't know if that means you won't be seeing dangerous enemy types, though - but I think you won't be seeing the Storm Atronach often, but rather the Flame variant (which I sadly no longer see - how I admire your, erm, glowing metal armor/bodice thing, sweet fire girl! :P )

Some of the women in the Fighter's Guilds have nice armor/bodices too.

Funny about the Oblivion character aging thingie. You can make a woman's face look like she's pushing 80......and her body will be that of an 18 year old. Strange nutrients in Tamriel's water indeed. Keeps 'em fit.

Just wondering.....anyone playing an Argonian?
