Hey gang!

Well, I see that summer is nearly here, so it's time to consider where this year's DP@??'06 will be held. In years past, we've seen DP@CP (Cedar Point) and DP@KI (Kings Island). So, does anyone have suggestions for this year's funfest? I'm jonesing for a theme park fix, so I'd be up for Cedar Point, Kings Island, Geauga Lake, or whatever...

Ohio (and neighboring states) folks chime in. Who wants to get together, ride the rides, and hurl this year? And where do you wanna do it?

EDIT: See new post!

I'm game to go, although being "A guest of exceptional size" (and being terrified of heights) I won't be able to ride much, so make sure we have a good midway, with lots of games and stuff like that :)

i'd vote for a late summer gathering (august, maybe even early september...) at cedar pointe. used to go there every year, but now i haven't been in years. i'd really really like to go again. plus, there's a giant ass arcade.

Seconded. I'm certain that Betty wants to go to CP as well. Maybe a Halloweekends jaunt again?

We're kinda tired of KI, with the exception of a few rides. Hence, no Season Pass this year.

It's also funny, as I was thinking about posting a topic like this in the near future.

You can count me in! Cedar Point in the fall is the best.

Hell I hate rides but the way you guys talk about the CP Arcade is enough to make me want to go. If it is the first week of July their would be no doubt I would go.

any other interested parties here?

should we start trying to firm up a date?

i'm pumped to hit the good ol CP again.

OK, it seems that a return to Cedar Point is in the works! Let's hear some dates/times of year when folks may wish to do this? Mid-summer? Closer to August? Maybe nearer to Halloween for the Halloweekend event?

Also, how many tentitive attendees do we have? I'll hammer out an "official thread" once we confirm a likely date for folks.

Any time is good for me as far as I know now, once I get through Labor Day. Until then...woof.

Some time around the first week of July would be nice, but I'll go any time to check out the arcade at CP.

Aye.

I vote for nearer to Halloween for the Halloweekend event.

I'm with Oob on the halloweekend deal. Plus I'm hoping to slim down a bit more so I'll be "a guest of almost exceptional size"

Any other thoughts/feelings/suggestions? The sooner it's ironed out, the better, to allow for schedule arrangements.

I'm up for the halloween time too - I'll ride up with bigdaddychester. Just don't have it in September, because I'm going to be gone every weekend in September.

Halloween time sounds good to me as well, we have nothing interesting at work during that time, so I'm sure a weekend off would be easy :)

the last weekend of the month (the 28th/29th) is bad, i have a wedding to go to... any other weekend is fine by me though. my birthday is the 15th of october, and i may take that entire week off, so either weekend surrounding that (10th-11th or 17th-18th) would be exceptional.

oob, i know you've got the paper route and all, but is there no chance for a weekend? spoon won't be able to come during the week... and i think i asked hezeuschrist to come along as well and he was interested... he probably wouldn't be able to make it during the week either. i dunno about anyone else....

<looks up Cedar Point hours for both>

Well, these are both on a Saturday, which would work nicely, I think. And the hours are the same for both - noon to midnight. And it appears that most of the rides are open on Saturdays too (except for those that are naturally shut down as locations for "haunts" or water rides - which would suck in Ohio in October off of Lake Erie anyway).

These would work well for me too - but I would lean to the Oct. 21 date as being more "Halloweeny". What say you all? Oct. 21 as the date? Post a YAY if you can make it and - if enough say it's cool, we'll lock it in and I'll begin the OFFICIAL DP@CP '06 thread.

I just caught this thread. I might maybe be able to go, so dont count me out of the running. I'd like to go sometime this summer, but it seems like October is what you'd all prefer, so I can deal with it. The 21st would be 4 days before I'm 18. Woo.

OK gang, mark your calendars, as OCTOBER 21st is the confirmed date for this year's annual Digital Press theme park outing!

In year's past, we've hit Cedar Point and Kings Island for a day of rides and merriment. This year, we hit The Amazement Park yet again! On Saturday October 21st, all Digital Press members who can attend are invited to meet at Cedar Point (www.cedarpoint.com) for HalloWeekends. The park will be open from noon to midnight on this day, with many of the rides and coasters open. Also, there are four "haunts" to walk through as welll as other Halloween merriment! (And don't forget the Cedar Point arcade, filled with hundreds of classic arcade goodness!)

This post officially announces the date and event. If you live in Ohio, you have no reason not to attend. If you live in a neighboring state, how's about packing yourself up and hitting The Point? As the date nears, I'll organize a place and time within the park where we can all meet up.

Let's start getting a head count. Post in this thread or drop me a PM if you have plans or intend to show up this year.

And it's Halloween - Sniderman's favorite holiday.

BUMP - to keep the thread alive and kickin'. Looks like me and Mrs. Sniderman may just get a room at either Sandcastles or Hotel Breakers and make a weekend of it! Let's get a big DP Haunted Halloween turnout for this!

Cedar Point now has the HalloWeekends site up and active. Here's the info gang:

Cedar Point's HalloWeekends website (http://halloweekends.cedarpoint.com/)

Looks like our gathering is as follows:

Date: Saturday, October 21
Park hours: noon to midnight
Admission: $39.95 all day
This year's haunts: Fear Faire; The Fright Zone; CarnEVIL; Werewolf Canyon; Undertaker U.; Pharoah's Secret; and Lair of the Vampire
Rides that are open: ALL OF THEM (except for any closed due to being haunt sites). THE WHOLE PARK'S RUNNING!

Looks like we're gonna have a great time, riding rides, getting the crap scared out of us, and - of course - a visit to the legendary CP Arcade.

Keeping the thread alive gang! Nearing the 2 months away stage!

As the days tick forward, I'm making a list of those who may be there/are planning on being there/etc. A "headcount" so to speak. I could go back through the thread, but some folks may have decided to back out. Others may have made plans to attend.

If you have an intention of coming, please PM me with your e-mail address so I can create a mailing list of folks. Thanks!

I thought I had posted another response here, but it looks like I didn't. I found out my high school's Homecoming is that day. Being that I'm a senior, I figure I should probably go, even though I don't really care, it's one of those 'tradition' things I suppose.

So, count me out. Have a great time though!

I've already allocated the necessary funds to finance my trip up there in advance. I think that some of us are going to be coming up either to or near Sandusky and staying that friday night before, so that we can be fresh for the morning. It stands to be a real good time it looks like.

I'll try to get some more info for everyone who's said they'll be there soon, including a meeting time and place inside the park.

Wow, we seem to have the makings of a sizable outing thus far. Here are the confirms as of today:

Sniderman
Perkar
Spoon
Eternal Tune
Oobgarm
Scooter
Wizdawg
Carey85

...plus any spouses, family, friends, etc. that any of the above will be bringing of course. ;)

The park will be running from noon to midnight that day. What time does everyone want to meet up? My thought on the meeting place is the Space Spiral. It's at the front of the park; it's impossible to miss; there shouldn't be any crowds gathered around it; and a trip up it gives you a quick overview of the park.

Anyway, if you haven't replied that you plan to attend, please PM me or post here. We're a little less than 2 weeks away, so final headcount is important.

Sniderman
10-14-2006, 09:04 PM
OK gang, we're at one week and counting. Details will be going to emails now, so if you wish/plan to attend, you need to email me at timchrissnider@netzero.net. I shall be starting a minor mailing to hammer out the final arrangements tonight.

PLEASE let me know ASAP if you plan to attend. Looks like we're gonna have a spooky fun time!

For those still on the fence as to whether to attend or not, here's this year's Halloweekends brochure, showing a map of the place, all events and costs, as well as descriptions of all of the haunts.

Click for PDF brochure! (http://halloweekends.cedarpoint.com/public/pdf/2006_fright_guide.pdf)

FYI: Undertaker U. is a can't miss...

OK everyone, tomorrow at 1 p.m., we meet at the Space Spiral near the front of the park. Snbiderman will be in his denim jacket with his Dawn of the Dead t-shirt on. I figured the zombie head at the left...

...might help point folks in my direction. ;)

Gonna be fun guys! I plan to take pix, and will especially get many photos of the infamous CP Arcade!

Hi gang!

(ouch - hobble - ouch)

Well, a good time was had by all yesterday at The Point. It was good seeing everyone and hanging out up until my bum right foot seized up on me (long story with a long history), so I had to bow out around 5 p.m. Thanks to Scoot-meister for helping me to the entrance of the park. Right now, I've got an Ace bandage wrapped around it and I'm keeping walking/standing to a minimum. (The 3 laps I made yesterday didn't help.)

Got lots of great photos of the CP Arcade, but COMPLETELY forgot to get a group shot of all of us. What an ass. Anyway, thanks to all who made it! Hope you had fun!

scooterb23
10-22-2006, 07:59 PM
GLad to hear you're healing Sniderman. Elevation and beer help. At least that's what I'd use.

My old injuries got to me soon afterwards, I ended up bowing out around 7:30 myself

I woke up this morning, and my right foot was swollen to the point I almost couldn't get it into my shoe. And my entire left leg feels like it's being squeezed in a vice.

We're too young to be getting too old for this shit.

Had an amazingly fun time, and am looking forward to more get togethers in the near future. Maybe at someplace a little easier on the joints. :)

Heh. My mild cold was made ten times worse by waiting in the nearly 3-hour line to ride Millenium Force. We got in line around 7:30-8:00, and were done with the ride at about 10:45 or so.

I must give a thumbs-up to the COLOSSAL wieners they were selling. Not once have I ever had a hot dog taste that good.
