So why is this different from your average Madden announcement? Well, EA has some features in the works that will take advantage of the Wii controller!

More on this here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6148455.html).

There's also an interesting interview with EA's John Schnappert about the publisher's approach to the development of Wii games. It's too bad that they haven't been as dedicated to DS development as they seem to be to the Wii.

People may dismiss Madden, especially on this board, but when it comes down to it, Madden is one of the top 5 selling games year in and year out. If this game provides a superior experience, tons of people will get it and prove to be a killer app for the Revolution.

The chances of that happening are pretty slim evan.

In a recent interview with some guy at EA, he made the statements that EA is having a difficult time dealing with the Wii. Why oh why might you ask? Because it's not HD, and because it's underpowered in relation to its competition.

Seriously. They said that.

What that means is it's difficult to develop for the Wii because they can't port the same schlock like they do every year.

I'm definitely not one to jump on the EA BLOWS bandwagon because they do deserve a lot of credit for being the force they are in the game industry. You take the good with the bad, but that just screams of laziness.

So this leads me to believe that EA is not going to put the time nor effort required to make a good football game using the systems unique controls. Instead they'll embrace everything thats "gimmicky" about the system and exploit it.

But, I could be wrong. They could make a great game, but I just don't have faith in a developer like EA. I'm very excited about the Wii, but not because of developers like EA or the games they'll likely produce for it.

Well, of course it all depends if they make the game good. But millions buy video game systems just for Madden, and if it is the superior version, I don't see how system power or graphics will matter that much. Judging from that interview, I would say that EA is taking this game pretty seriously.

You're wrong. :P This will be the sweetest Madden ever.. from IGN.com

Electronic Arts revealed today that a new version of its lucrative football franchise, Madden NFL, is in development for Nintendo's new generation console. The game is -- in a first for the studio -- being developed outside of Tiburon by a new team at EA Canada formed for the purpose of creating Revolution games. Madden NFL for Revolution will be shown at E3 2006 this May.

EA senior vice president John Schappert recently revealed some specifics about the Nintendo build of the game. He said that EA didn't believe in porting games to Nintendo's console, which is why it formed a dedicated group to focus on the machine. "The approach we took is, okay, we're making Madden for Revolution. Forget what the control scheme was before, what should it be?" he told game developer publication Gamasutra.
More interesting, though, is that Schappert also illustrated some of the game mechanics that will separate Madden for Nintendo's new console. To hike a ball in the version, gamers will simply pull up the controller. To throw a ball, they will gesture with a throwing motion. Hard, fast gestures may result in bullet passes while more relaxed gestures could effect lob passes, he said. Meanwhile, to kick, players would "... take the controller as if it were your foot and swing up on it." Apparently, the straighter the motion, the more likely that the ball will fly true.

Schappert also noted that more titles for Nintendo's system are already in development by EA and will be revealed at a later date.

Yeah, and that dedicated group is having trouble with it because it isn't exactly like the 360 or PS3.

that shouldnt matter, since they are not developing the same games. nor are they porting anything. these people work with the Wii exclusively. its similarity to other consoles is irrelavent.

I completely agree, which is why I find EA bitching about it a prime indicator to the quality (or lack thereof) of their potential Wii games.

I think EA publishes alot of good games like Burnout, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, etc.

No game designed by EA has really impressed me since SSX Tricky.

As far as Madden on the Wii, I really don't think I'm gonna get into it. I've gotten a few other Madden games and never played them.
