Hello fellow DPers and collectors.

Tomorrow I will be on a business trip to Houston, TX for the first time ever, and while I am in a new city I'd like to check out some of the hot spots for classing gaming goodness.

Suggestions?

Gas is paid for by the company, so no place is too far.

Also, I just bought a good video card for my PC (for the first time ever), so I might be interested in some used PC games.

Thanks!

There's not really anything in town but the usual chain stores. Game Crazy tends to be the best, followed by GameStop, then EB Games trails way, way behind.

I grew up there and went to college there -- so I'd be curious to hear other's suggestions.... Quite frankly, i've never found shit outside of the usual pawn shops, etc...

I live here and there is nothing catered to classic gaming. For me to to get my fill, I have to travel to Austin and the Gamefellas stores they have there.

Your best spot for classic gaming in Houston is my house. :D

Hey, I used to work at Gamefellas, through '97-'99. Fun job.

Yeah, as a resident of Houston, I can tell you there is NOTHING here for classic gamers. The best we have are the Game Crazy stores, and even then it's hit or miss.

Sorry to say, the classic gaming scene is alive only through collectors and only a few of us have actually met in person.

It's sad really. x_x

Or my house... Which isn't far from ShinobiMan's house...

We haven't had any decent game stores here since way back in the day. I have to find all of my stuff on ebay now.

It's pretty much just GameCrazy, GameStop, and EB here.

But Gayme Stop and EB don't carry retro.

Hit up some pawn shops, I dunno about the retro game scene down there, i was only there for a month and i had no money. I know of a Gamestop(i think) just off of I-45 and Aldine Bender. But, yeah, check the pawn shops.

I've lived here for one year and have grown my classic collection quite a bit. It's hard to do in this muggy, God-forsaken town but it's still fun to try. I've had some luck at pawns and garage sales.

For a visitor, though, check out the flea markets on Airline drive just east of I-45. They're crowded, but they have lots of old games. Just not a lot of boxes or complete stuff.

Oh yeah, I forgot about all the flea markets. There's also Trader's Village on Eldridge Rd, and some place near 45 South on Telephone Rd I think too, but I forget the name of it. Also one on 59 South at Westpark, but I dunno the name of it either. Trader's Village is the nicest one though.

Legend has it that there is or was a place in Houston called "Jam Zone" which sells post-NES classic games as well as hip-hop music and fashions. Said store is owned by Booker T of WWE fame. Being a casual mark I always wanted to visit this place, although I can't imagine I'd be received well.

Me: "Do you have Hover Strike: Unconquered Lands for the Jaguar?'
Booker T: "What?! Sucka we got Playstation an' Nintendo an' that's it. Git yo punk play-a-system-nobody-else-plays ass outta here!"

That would be cool.

Wait! I did just remember a store that had some classic stuff. Nothing terribly spectacular, but "mejor que nada", as they say.

Don't remember the name, but it's in Northwest Mall (the one that's at 290 and Loop 610. It's near the food court. They had a decent, but small selection when I was there a few months ago. May have changed by now...
