View Full Version : Ways to tell if a NGCD disc is fake?

I just bought 12 Neo Geo CD games off a casual friend. She had more, but she knew those were pirates, so I wasn't much interested. Looking at the games I did buy off of her, some of them are quite clearly originals, a couple of them are positively fake, but the rest... not so sure about.

All of them have manuals -- I can tell the for sure fakes by the bleeding colors in the printing on the read and the not-so-good quality of the printing in the manual. The others... hard to tell. It doesn't seem like the NGCD would be likely to be too commerically priated since the value of the games (generally) isn't that high, nor were they ever **that** popular.

I'm used to seeing tons of PS2/XBox/PS1/DC fakes, even GameCube and Nintendo DS pirates, but not so much on other systems... (Except for the GBA, which is ubiquitously faked -- but those are pretty easy to tell from the originals). Only the GBA fakes bother with any real attempt to make them look like original games. Of course there are ROM fakes out there, but the AES carts fetch such high prices it makes sense that people try to make knockoffs and frauds.

Have any of you run across NGCD fakes?

Can you post pics of the ones you're not sure of?

Yeah, but it will be a few days until I can find a net cafe with a place to plug in my memory stick (my computer's not around, and I'm at a net cafe now)...

If it has a label on it: "NOT a fake!"

It's probably a fake.

not always 100% TRUE ! back in 1995 I bought my neo geo cd system with several games from a store that sold for someone who worked at sony company making games ... one of the games was bootleg it was last resort ! hong kong are really good at making bootlegs and it looked so real but you have to be an expert and deter if its real or fake usually look at the id numbers near the eye of the cd (cd ring) and feel the print on the top of cd and also neo geo cd system has neo geo embossed in top right corner of the cd lid jewel case but most of the times they get cracked easily so many re seller just swap the cases etc ... and also manuals can even be reproduced so have to be caution that is why i dont pay mega bucks for neo geo cd games even though I do have a lot of neo geo cd games already but am very cautious of buying games for it !
