I was wondering how many of you are still playing with the original SNES hardware, and how many would rather use emulation (even if owning original games).
And finally, how many of you play with an imported SUPER FAMICOM (and imported games) rather than using a SNES ?

snes still being played over here. No emulator can compare to them carts. Sometimes I play final fantasy games on emu though because you can fast forward through the boring stuff. I still have the carts though. I want to get UN Squadron, Cybernator, Castlevania IV, or R-Type 3 or Super next. It may be a while though because the carts I'm most interest in getting these days are MVS carts for my Neo Geo Arcade Cab.

I'd much rather own them then have them on an emulator. However, before I buy a game, I try it out on an emulator first, just to see if it's any good or not.

I did the emulation thing for a little while, went through rehab and now I'm back to original hardware. I do play ROMhacks and whatnot through emulators, and one good thing is that it introduced me to lots of carts I need to buy.

I do both emulation and the real thing. To me it's just too much of a pain in the ass to have all of my classic consoles plugged into my television and ready to play at the same time. So usually I base it on whether I'm going to have friends over or not. If friends are over I'll hook the console up and play the real thing. If it's just me then it's just easier to play it on an emulator w/ my Xbox 360 gamepad.

I have about 10 systems.

One is with me at school. On that, I use a Game Doctor. I only keep a couple of cartridges with me.

At home, there's one set up in my family room with a stack of random fun games next to it.

There's another one hooked up in my basement...and that's where most of my carts are.

The rest of the systems sit in storage/their boxes on shelves.

I have emulators on several PCs...but thats just a way of testing games to see what they're like before buying, or putting on the Game Doctor.

I still strictly play the originals for any system I own. Emulators don't give the same feel as holding the system's controller and playing the games in all of thier original glory. And the fact that SNES is compatible with the N64 and GCN video cables is perfect, because I can play everything in s-video, which is more than good enough for me.

SNES is the first system for which I made the conscious decision to go solely to the emu route. Most of my SNES stuff has been traded or sold already but for a few loose odds and ends which I'd eventually like to find a good home for. It's simply not a system I developed any particular affinity for. Mind you, I'm not saying it sucks, I'm simply saying I just never got into it. Between this lack of personal affection and the fact that SNES emulation has reached a (for me) satisfactory level of performance, there's just no reason for me to keep the console or the games around eating up precious cubic footage.

I second this. However, I'm not really into buying SNES games, so I use emulation to try out stuff I missed or games I was always curious about.

My 'core' of SNES games is played on my actual launch system in S-Video. 8-)

I don't own an SNES but my GF does and she is currently letting me borrow it on "long term loan".

I don't really emulate anymore (i did about 5-6 years ago) but i have no reason to as the SNES games that i do have i can count with my thumbs (she owns a few more). I don't need to emulate because i have no need to take screenshots of either one of my games.

"Turtles in Time" keeps the SNES alive along with Zelda.

(Its too bad that version of "Turtles" on the new TMNT game was marred by altered audio. Arcade perfect would have been sweet.)

SNES is the oldest system I own which I still have my original system. Although it is far from my favorte.

I use a lot of SNES emulation to try and find games I like, and then I'll go try to find those games when I like them.

I haven't bought a SNES game in a long time, although there are still a few games I'd like to have.

I still use my SNES console. Mostly for RPGs (Secret of Mana, Mario RPG, etc) I used to use emulators for some games but I never invested in a control pad, and using the keyboard got clumsy sometimes. Pretty much, I own my favorite games for the SNES and play them on the console.

I'm still playing games on my SNES that my folks got me back in Christmas of '91. It's faded at the top half, but it still works. I love my SNES. I've never really been a fan of emulation. Playing SNES games on a PC just isn't the same to me.

Sometimes I'll fire up an emulator just to see if I like a game or not, then go buy it. I even have a pretty ideal emu setup (tv is hooked up to my pc, and I have a psx pad adapter), but I much prefer the original hardware.

Im still playing my half white, half yellow SNES. Emulation makes the games look pixilated, nothing like playing games on original hardware, just that i do need to replace the battery in my Super Mario World game.

The only time I use an SNES emulator is when working on/playing my SMW hack, and that's it. I prefer playing everything else on a real system - even if a game isn't translated.

I've never owned a SNES (well, apart from a few days last year when I bought one cheap at a boot sale before selling it) and haven't emulated it in years. Years ago, I used to play it on emulator - everyone I knew did. Put in many hours into Final Fantasy 6 and Super Caeser's Palace. Don't think I actually played any other games on the emu for more than maybe 5 mins. It was good times actually, as a lot of my friends were also playing those 2 games on emulators at the same time so it was good going through FF6 together and well, Super Caeser's Palace is the best casino sim i've played, brilliant.

You've gotta play Zelda - a link to the past on the SNES, I find the GBA version to be terrible, and I hate how Link yells everytime he swings the sword, blah

:hail: !!Original Hardware here also!! :hail:

As a snes collector with more than 600 games, i don't play it anywhere near as much as i'd like too. But when i do get the chance i always tear it up, there are so, so many great snes titles, not just the common games that everyone knows about (Mario Kart, SMW, Yoshi's Island, chrono, SF series, cybernator etc, etc) but some of the lesser know games that not everybody knows or plays, Tetris Attack, Operation logic bomb, Metal warriors, street racer, etc..

Really you need to play alot of the snes libarary, to appreciate some of the lesser know games, some of them i'll get right into finish and then thats it, i might never play it again. But thats more time constraints, as well as, havin so many games (xbox, gc, etc) to play, but once you'll finish a game you move on, it's rare you'd finish a game and start it all over again?

I can't do the EMU thing, the games don't feel right with emu' and they never really look right. And it feels so much better, when you play a game in the way it was meant to be played.. (although i've used NeorageX and it's not to shabby ;) )

I still own my original system, and it works. I usually emulate though, even for games I already own. This is so that I can play and watch tv at the same time. I also occasionally like to use save states.

I have my SNES currently hooked up and payed it a few times in the past week. Although I lack a large library of games for it there are a ton of great games that do sit on my shelves and get played often when the system is up and running. Last weekend I was playing some Contra III with a few buds and did some Super Buster Brothers as well. Some good times on that system.

On the other hand, if it weren't for emulators and me downloading so many ROMs years ago in high school and playing them each night I wouldn't be as knowledgable as to what games are worth picking up at the store. ROMs really do help by exposing some of the more secluded gamers to games otherwise they'd never see or get to play.

I have a SNES or two and games for them. I prefer having the tangible games and consoles rather than playing emulators.

I also still play my original SNES from Christmas, 1991. I acquired a newish, mint one recently, but I'm giving it to my cousin. I have an attachment to my original, half white, half pukey yellow, Snessy. It got me through a lot of those silly, angst-ridden adolescent times!

Currently, I'm playing Super Castlevania IV. That game is excellent. If you have it, go play it right now.

Call me crazy but I don’t like most emulators. Somehow they’re just not the same thing. There’s just something about playing the real thing on the real console. I have had my SNES since summer of 1992 and I still play it to this day.

Zelda LttP
Super Metroid
Super Mario World
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Super Castlevania IV
Contra III
Turtles IV
Super Mario RPG
Earthbound

These are just a few of the reasons why any die hard gamer should have a SNES…

Those Super Fami Jr.s are sooo cute, and you guys really aren't helping! Mustn't. Spend. Cash.

Seriously though, real hardware everytime. And that goes for every system.

I used to owned an SNES, but my father gave it away to my sister (she still has it).

Emulation is a great tool for me. Like what everybody saids, you try the game out on the emulator and if you like it, you buy it. Currently I'm collecting Genesis/Sega CD games and without emulation, I would be clueless on what games to buy. It's good to have some of the common good titles (Sonic, Comix Zone), and also some of the rare good titles (M.U.S.H.A, and more).

Once I collect a lot of Genesis/SegaCD, Japanese Saturn and Japanese Dreamcast games, then I would think about starting collecting games for the SNES. ;)

I used to Emulate, but to see if the game was any good.
I have a Snes Jr I play every now and then. I only seem to play 2 games. Mario Allstars and Gradius 3.

This topic makes me want to play something right now.

A friend accidently stepped on my SNES, so now i play on a Super Famicom. Real hardware all the way.

The only game i emulate any more is Super Ghouls and Ghosts, and that's only because of the save states. I still haven't beaten it yet anyway!

I still play the SNES regularly as well as play emulated games. I have four SNES controllers and they all seem to have issues with the select and start buttons despite cleaning and scoring the contacts, so when I need to use them often I play on the PC hooked up to my TV with a PS1 analog controller. I prefer playing them on the system, as with all games. I try to have the entire experience as it was meant to be had.

A good USB controller is easy to come by. I got a Gravis Gamepad Pro at Best Buy about six years ago for like $4. It's basically a clone of a PS1 controller. Perfect for playing any emulator 32-bit and down: Genesis, SNES, PS1, GBA, whatever. And it works just like the day I got it. One of the best purchases I ever made for under $5.

Had one back in the day, gave it away in 1998 to my cousins. Bought one again Jan. 2006 because I realized how much I missed that era of gaming, and that the SNES offered, for me, the best gaming times of my life.

Four months later, I'm a very happy gamer with no regrets ;) (though maybe my wallet is a bit angry with me)

I still own and play the SNES I got for my 11th birthday in 1993. I currently own 134 games for it as well.

However, like with the NES and Genesis, I do use emulation to test out games I don't own to see if they're worth buying should I locate copies of them in the wild.
