My fav compilations in no particular order:
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (PS2, Xbox, GC)
OH SNAP!!! MM1-8 plus the two arcade games on one disc!!! Despite the fact that I'm not rocking an avatar of the Blue Bomber, he's one of my top favorite video game characters of all-time. I own MM1-8 on carts and disc, but this keeps me from having to system-hop so much.
Capcom Classics Collection (PS2/Xbox)
Capcom really outdid themselves with this one. I know some of the games aren't arcade perfect but when Commando, Mercs, Ghosts & Goblins, Ghouls & Ghosts, Super Ghouls & Ghosts, Forgotten Worlds, and a ton of other awesome Capcom games are on one disc, it really is hard for me to complain. And Final Fight is still the best beat 'em up ever.
Activision Anthology (PS2)
It has more than 45 Atari Activison games including Kaboom!, Crack Pot, Demon Attack, Pitfall, and River Raid. It also has tons of unlockbables like the original commericals for the games, patches and extra games. All this and and 12 '80s songs from artists like Blondie, Soft Sell, A-Ha, Talk-Talk and Twisted Sister. Every retro gaming fanatic/collector NEEDS this one.
Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
Three classic Mario platform games plus the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, dubbed The Lost Leves. While the NES version of Super Mario Bros. 3 is my fav, it really is hard not to love this cart. A simply excellent compilation, even if the designers of The Lost Levels were clearly A-holes.
Compilations I want to See:
Gradius/Parodius Collection
I'm going to get a PSP eventually so I'll finally be able to play Gradius II. But I look at screens of all the Parodius games and wish so badly that those games were released in the states. I'll probably end up buying them all once I buy another SNES and fix it up so I can play Super Famicom games but I'd still love to see this collection.
Contra/Castlevania Collection
All the Contra games that did not suck. Give me Castlevania I-III, Super Castlevania IV, Bloodlines, Dracula X, and SOTN and I'll be one freaking happy camper.
Compile Shooter Collection
Zanac, Gun-Nac, MUSHA, Space Megaforce, Power Strike, Power Strike II, every freaking SHMUP they ever made. Just the thought of it makes me shiver. But since Compile is no more... *sigh*. In the words of Huey Freeman "It's fun to dream."
Sega Classics Collection vol. 2
I'd like to see some Saturn games. Maybe Virtua Fighter 1-2, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Shinning Force III, Panzer Dragoon/Zwei/Saga, NiGHTS and those other awesome Sega developed games.

Aren't compilations more of a thing for the current/new consoles? Plus, maybe the Wii (can't beleive I'm typing 'Wii'!) will make compilation disks a bit redundant as you'll hopefully be able to d/l the best games from a given Nintendo/MD/PCE series. Maybe.
Anyhow, I wish they'd port the MegaMan X collection to the Xbox, oh well.
And the DC deserved ports of all 6 MetalSlugs, and a nice Metal Slug Perfect Collection boxset.
A Panzer Dragoon collection with the 3 Saturn games, Orta and GG PD Mini as an unlockable would be cool.
EDIT: I'd be nice if Nintendo made the craziness that is All-Night-Nippon SMB available for Wii d/l or on a compilation. More as just a historical curiosity, but it also sounds like a very interesting variant on the original.

Best comps:
Super Mario Allstars
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
Mega Man Anniversary/Perfect Works Collection
Activision Anthology
The Arcade Classics comps on PS1
Feasible comps I'd like to see (notice they're all Konami titles? LOL ):
Contra (NES, GB, SNES, Genny, throw in Probotector for fun/good measure)
Castlevania(NES, GB, SNES, Genny)
Gradius/Nemesis (NES, GB, SNES)
An interesting idea, though I'd ever expect to see it:
RARE 8-bit classics (R.C. Pro-Am I & II, Rad Racer iI & II, Cobra Triangle, Wizards & Warriors 1-3, Battletoads, Snake Rattle & Roll, etc.)

My favorites are Mario All Stars and the MegaMan collection.
I agree a Gradius collection would rock, and so would a Cave shooter collection. And while I don't think it would happen becuase of rights and licensing, a Capcom beat'em up collection with Alien vs Predator, Dungeons and Dragons, Battle Circuit, etc would be excellent as well.

"Lucas Arts Finest" on DS and PSP with Monkey Island 1 + 2, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and whatever else they think would sell best!

Comps I'd like to see...
Gradius Ultra Pack - arcade games: Gradius, Gradius II, Gradius III, Gradius IV, Salamander, Salamander 2, Life Force, Solar Assault; home games: Gradius III SNES, Nemesis '90 Kai, Gradius Gaiden, Gradius Galaxies, Gradius V... and maybe the Famicom versions of Salamander and Gradius II, plus the MSX Gradius and Salamander games as hidden unlockables (maybe even throw in Nemesis and Gradius: The Interstellar Assault [both for GB] as hidden games too). This would also include all opening CG sequences from all the previous comps and whatnot, and full sound tests for every game.
Splatterhouses - Splatterhouse (AC), Splatterhouse 2, Splatterhouse 3 and Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Grafitti. Supplement this with as much library information dredged from Namco's archives as possible. Maybe even a recreation of the LCD handheld game too, just for kicks. :D
As far as favorite comps of mine go, let me just refer you here (http://www.geocities.com/opcfg2/favcomps.html).

Now that sounds like the ultimate compilation right there. I always forget about the other games in the Gradius series. Reading your post makes me wish that the PSP Gradius Collection was also coming to a console system. :(
A sweet ass addition to the list would be a nice Shining Force release...
- 1 and 2 for the Genesis
- 3 (including all 3 discs for saturn in english)
- 1-3 for the Game Gear, including the engish form of the final one we never saw here.

I'm tired of collections of games I already own or could easily own on Genesis or whatever other systems. Instead, I'd like to see some collections of arcade games that were never ported (or never ported well), RPGs that were never translated, games that were never released, etc. Maybe some collections of old DOS games would be nice, since it's virtually impossible to get the old games to run right on a modern PC.

Whatever happened to the Mega Man GB compilation?
A SaGa Collection (that is, Final Fantasy Legend I-III) would be cool, too.

I'd love to see an infocom collection of text adventures updated with voice recognition or even some well done illustrations to give a more modern "adventure game" feel... that would be cool and have great potential on the DS or even a microphone equipped console.

Nintendo collection of arcade games ala DK/DKJR/DK3.
I'd also like to see Game and Watch Gallery 5 for the DS. It's heritage is the dual screen Game & Watches so it's time to bring it around full circle!

That's pretty much my answer. If they're games I can easily play on other consoles, I see little need to shell out for a compilation that just has the same games. But I'm always happy to see compilations that have arcade games that were never released on consoles (or were so different on consoles that it's worth having the arcade version) or games that never came to the US before (especially text-heavy ones that could be officially translated for the first time).
As for my favorite, I gotta go with Super Mario All-Stars. Not only did it contain four of the best games ever made, one game that I had never played before, and recreated the graphics and music beautifully, but it was also FREE, thanks to Nintendo's offer at the time. Of course, if you have Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, that's even better yet. :)

I'd really, really like to see a NGPC game collection for DS and or PSP. They wouldn't have to change any parts of the games, and they have a ton of amazing games to choose from.

Definately. That would be very cool to see.
I'd like a collection of FamiCom games, not necessarily the RPGs we never had the chance to properly enjoy (though THAT would be bad-ass!) but just a compilation of foreign stuff that might freak out the typical American player who's used to the stuff we had back in that era. :D

My favorites by system:
SNES: Super Mario All-Stars
Genesis: Genesis 6-Pak
PlayStation: Buster Bros. Collection
PS2: Taito Legends. I also like Capcom Classics Collection, Activision Anthology, and all three Midway Arcade Treasures titles.
Gamecube: The Legend Of Zelda Collector's Edition. This and Sonic Mega Collection were two of the first games I bought when I bought my Gamecube.
GBA: Namco Museum. Dig Dug and Galaga are great pick up and play games when I only have a short amount of time to play something (like if I'm on a short trip on the bus or something). I also like Konami Collector's Series: Arcade Advanced.
Yeah, I posted this before, but it was in a repeat thread that just got locked and my Asperger's Syndrome wouldn't allow me to just let things be. LOL
I would like to see a Gran Turismo box set complete with some cool exclusive goodies, since the Sony machines are entirely backwards compatible.

Not sure if I'd label these as favorites but I do like Taito Legends and Sonic Gems Collection. Gems Collection I like for having Sonic CD, Sonic R and Sonic Triple Trouble on one disc. Also, Sonic The Fighters has grown on me.
Can't believe I forgot to mention Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. HSFII and SFIII: 3S are some of the best 2D fighters on the planet.

I loved the Atari Anthology for the Xbox (also for PS2) and Sonic Mega Collection for GC (other on the other current consoles).
I would love to see collections based on Colecovision or Turbografx-16 games even though I probadly won't.

Well Id love 2 comilations:
A Sonic Collection with the SMS 8 bit titles as they are the better
of the 8 bit sonics and also all of the sonics, including Knuckles
Chaotix and the GBA games.
Also A Proper Street Fighter Compilation with extras that have
to be earned through the game and include all things Street
fighter including Street Fighter Ex series as well as the shitty
movie game LOL
Id love to See a more profound Sega Collection too, maybe a
Master System collection and have all of sega's 8bit games
on one compilation.
Possibly a Streets of Rage Compilation.
Possibly a 32X Compilation.
Possibly a Virtua Fighter Collection.
Ah well we can all dream cant we?

favorite Compilations that I have:
Namco Museum,Midway Arcade Treasures 2@3 for PS2
OK here we go.....Sega Classics collection on PS2..... IT WASNT A BAD COLLECTION but it was a good compilation of the Sega ages games from japan and Virtua Racing is great on this disk and absolutely kills the Saturn and even the 32X versions.
fav compilations that I have owned or played:
Sonic Jam- on Saturn was PERFECT the emulation was spot on and even better than the current gen compilations then there was the 3-D stage that was a glimpse of what a true 3-D Sonic COULD HAVE been if it was made by Sonic Team who did this compilation on Saturn.
Streetfighter Alpha Anthology for PS2 - I want this one BAD
the Namco Collections on PSX were great also with the "virtual museums" and all.
I agree that a
METROID collection/anthology would be kick a$$
also a FULL collection of both the Castlevania and Gradius/parodius series would be great.
I would luv to see a full Metal Gear Solid Collection done for PS2 (since the majority of MGS fans have PS2s plus it would sell on PS2 or PS3 better) all of the originals or a mix of the Reduxs like the Twin Snakes, substance, substinance would do nicely.
Im hoping THIS:
Konami announced they will release Silent Hill Complete Set for PS2 in Japan on July 8, 2006, for 7749 yen. The package includes Silent Hill (PSone), Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams (PS2), Silent Hill3 (PS2), Silent Hill 4: The Room (PS2), 5 Silent Hill Postcards and a poster of Silent Hill the Movie.
will come to the U.S. also even though I have all these games my original SH is disk only :/

My favorite Compilations: (no particular order)
-Sonic Mega Collection Plus (Xbox): It's useful having all of the Genesis Sonic games in one package instead of having to change cartridges. The save system is excellent as well, as you can save anywhere on any game, much like a save state feature on an emulator.
-Midway Arcade Treasures 2 and 3
-Street Fighter Anniversery Collection (Xbox)
These are the only compilations I have. I should start getting more of them, like Capcom Classics Collection and the recently released Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.
A Compilation that I want to be made:
-Shining Force Collection: Includes every Shining game from the Genesis to the Sega Saturn. It would be nice if it included Shining Force III and it's different Scenarios (which was released in Japan only) translated into English.

Just to revisit what I wrote before, I'd also like to see an Earthbound compilation (preferably on the DS or GBA, portability would be excellent).
Though I've had an idea for a while now that I'd love to see happen: a console compilation of all old-school styled games, but brand new material. Like a brand-spankin'-new, Final Fantasy II or III-ish RPG that could stretch on for as long as the story can remain interesting, coupled with a new vertical shooter a-la Ikaruga, and maybe a new side-scroller in the sprite-style of Super Mario World.
Something like that would kick ass.

I also liked the Sega Classics Collection. I enjoyed Alien Syndrom among other games and Virtua Racing was the reason I bought it again for $10 new after foolishly trading it in.
Speaking of Sonic Jam, I could have gotten that Monday afternoon but I thought $26 was too much to pay for a loose copy.

I know someone with this and The Silent Hill Collection does NOT include the 1st game. It only includes the original versions of the games available on PS2 (SH 2, 3, & 4). This means Silent Hill 2 does not have the Maria game as it was only available for XBox and on the Greatest Hits version.
Also, it is not likely to be released in the US...unless you have a PAL PS2
