Eurogamer posted a news article (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64247) this morning about a new Sonic game heading to the PSP later this year, courtesy of Death Jr developer Backbone.
Screenshots can be found here (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64246). Quoted straight from the article...
...it's a mixture of old-style speedy platform action and four-player wireless action - promising 2D gameplay in 3D environments, are you can see in the first run of screenshots.
Instead of exploring levels, it sounds like Sonic will be racing his rivals through them. You'll be able to control any of four characters - including Sonic and Knuckles - each with a winding storyline, with boost moves and power-ups with which to trip up the others as they go. On the way, there'll be various traps and hazards to dodge, courtesy of Eggman.
Sonic Rivals is due out this autumn on PSP, and should be on-hand at E3.
Personally, I think this looks promising. Hopefully it'll be an improvement on the Sonic-R style gameplay. Unfortunately, previews for Sonic games always seem misleading, so I guess we won't really know how this game pans out until we actually play it!
