Well? Which one is it? They all have their highs and lows. I prefer Tony Hawk 2 & 4, but I didn't like 3 all that much. The THUG games are good, but focus too much on the radness of being Urban. Well? What's your vote? And most importantly, WHY?

I think 3 or 4 are the best, the combo system and the sheer size of the games are reason enough. 4 is probably the one that I've had the most fun playing though and the difficulty of the game keeps me coming back for more.

tony hawks 2 on dreamcast is the best version i have played
I would have to agree with you there!
However, I would have said that if I hadn't had a clue that an Xbox version existed. Unfortunately, we in the UK never got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X for the Xbox, so for us, the Dreamcast version remains the best, although I own the Xbox version and would have to side with that
Why is there no Tony Hawk 2X option in the poll?

I'm partial to THPS3 myself. The 2:00-minute-run format suits the game perfectly, and the addition of the revert helps balance vert tricks against the street/grind styles. Plus the excellent variety and liveliness in the stages helps.
I'd say THUG2 is a very close second. THUG was just too much into the whole story line, but this one went back to the more light-hearted feel. Plus you've got several revived stages from THPS3, and Classic mode for the old 2:00-minute-run game. So it's kind of like THPS3-2...or something.

It's just a general question, not a console specific. Therefore you should vote for the "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2" option. But I love your reasoning! THPS 2X for Xbox is a superior version, with the Dreamcast coming in close 2nd.

Tony Hawk 2 by FAR...and I mean FAR. (IMO of course)
1 is good but not enough to do per level. Once they hit 3 though the just had to many things to do and the levels were to jammed. I felt every timed I turned there was a new object and not enough room to skate.
I still play TH2 today, since the day it came out. Its just a great game and even better on xbox. Everything is just perfect.

THPS 2 for the DC is by far the best, with the best soundtrack to boot.

I love all of them up to American Wasteland.
But I have to go with THPS 3 for my all time favorite.

I voted for 3, but I don't really consider most of them to be inferior or superior to any of the others. 3 stands out just a bit more than the others, but that's it.

Two. The introduction of the manual was the biggest benchmark in the series so far. The revert is nice, but nothing like the manual in terms of chaining combos.
Ultimately, the other games, improved, to a degree, the Tony Hawk series (THPS 1-4) and while the Underground series tried to break the mold, they ultimately felt a little flat compaired to the high points in the original series.
Thus, THPS2 takes the crown for me.

I would have to say THPS3(PS2) is my all time favorite.
It's got great music(for the most part), a ton of unlockables, and a wide variety of stages and goals. The reason for me going for the PS2 version is, the controller works perfect with the game. and it's the only version on console of THPS3 to have online play(which is gone by now?)
A very close second would be THPS2(DC). As the DC version is far above the N64 and PSX versions.
Worst...
THPS Series(N64 versions). It pains me to say this, as the N64 is my favorite console. But it just wasen't made for this type of game. A large amount of the music is missing, ALL the FMV'S are gone, The controller doesn't work well with the game. And maybe it's just my imagination. But they seem to run abit slower on the N64(even worse then the PSX versions). :/ However THPS1 turned out semi decent on the system, but 2 and 3 just feel "off".

i'd say Tony hawk 2 is the best, but Tony hawk 1 had the best soundtrack ever :)

I voted for THPS2, but it was very close between that and the first one. I liked the levels and the music better in the first one, but I think the control in the second game was much improved and added so much to the overall experience.
The 3rd one was good, it just felt a little too much like more of the same.
I hated 4 and the whole "skate up to a guy and he'll tell you what to do" thing.
Once THUG got into the whole grand theft skater thing, I was out. But to be fair I was pretty well tired of the traditional format by the time 3 came along, so at least they tried something different, it just happened that what they tried didn't interest me.

THPS2 for me as well. It's the reason I keep my old PSX hooked up -- THPS2 never leaves the drive.

I had to go for the original THPS. I remember losing more and more interest in the series with each new game.

Tony Hawk 2 by FAR. I swear, once you got done facing off your friends in all of the standard levels, they even had pre made created levels that you can explore. And they had a freakin ton of those. And of course, you were able to make your own.
Damn, I spent hours with my friends playing that game. I believe we set it on 5 minutes, and I would stay in the vert ramp and just juice out all my tricks for all the points they were worth.
That game was amazing. :)

Another vote for Tony Hawk 2. I loved it on Playstation, loved it on Dreamcast, and I can't wait to play 2X on Xbox whenever I stumble over a copy in the wild :)
THPS Series(N64 versions). It pains me to say this, as the N64 is my favorite console. But it just wasen't made for this type of game. God yes, the N64 versions were so disappointing. The load times in the third game were a surprise and it's too bad that the system died out with such an incomplete release.
I've always found the playstation versions to be playable (even today), but the N64 versions...ick :(
Regarding Tony Hawk 3, I remember buying a USB->Ethernet adapter just so my brother could play that game online. That was pretty crazy / cool / fun (I don't believe the official network adaptor was out yet, so it was cool that usb ethernet adapters were supported). Good times.

D.I.T.T.O.
I loved 3 even though I really wasn't all that good at it (unlike a friend who was freaking insane), and felt it was just the addition to 2 that put it on top. 4 and on wern't bad by any means, just that my skill level never really rose to handle the expansive levels and drawn out storylines.
I'm voting American Wasteland....even though I haven't played it yet.
I bought American Sk8land for the DS and loved the sandbox idea. I am assuming that Wasteland gives you the same....but lots more of it, and I like the idea of the bikes being thrown in too.
I also like good ol' Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 for it's familiar feel. I actually got quite used to playing it with the N64 controller. I just ran over to my collection.....and discovered that I also own it on the DC too!! I didn't even realize that! Cool!

I have no idea. I do have something to add, though...
The N-Gage port of Tony Hawk 1 is surprisngly accurate to the PSone game but playing it on the vertical screen is weird.
The Tapwave Zodiac port is based on the GBA game, not the 3-D versions. Lazy. Spyhunter was built for the ground-up for the Zodiac and plays like the console versions.
Tony Hawk 3 was the LAST game released for the Nintendo 64, coming 4-5 months after Powderpuff Girls and a couple of months after the last Japanese game, Bomberman 64 (not to be confused with the 3-D versions released in the States... the last N64 Bomberman was more like the SNES/Saturn games.)
I'm done now.

I voted 4. That was the game where the gameplay and game engine evolved to the point where subsequent games haven't gotten any better (although I haven't played AW). 4 had the challenge that was somewhat lacking in 2 and 3, and did away with the repetitive "play the entire game again to unlock new things." That game also made you do different things to complete the goals. Before then, I would just grind my way to high scores. 4 made me focus more on a variety of tricks.
I didn't like the changes in the Underground games. Driving cars just didn't belong, the stealth stuff was stupid and confusing, and the control when off your board sucked. I find the vandalism aspects annoying too.

THPS3 or THUG. both were a lot of fun when they first came out and were before i got really annoyed with THUG2 and then didnt even purchase THAW. and the soundtracks were pretty decent in the first two i listed. voted for THUG though but meant to go for THPS3. both work though lol

48 Votes and none for THUG2? LOL
I've spent the most total time on THPS1 and 2, but when I go back to play alone or with people, it's the first THUG. I actually enjoyed the one-player storyline, which I think means I lose 3 street cred points.
On a related note, when will Bam Margera go away?

Anyone who is on the know, knows that Thrasher Skate and Destroy is the greatest Skateboarding game to this day. So much better than THPS. It was realistic for it's time, had ragdoll physics where you could Tuck your body to roll, flip over, grab onto ledges. It was amazing. They even had the multiplayer mode where you had to take the most damage.
You wouldn't find huge million point combos in this game, but that's a good thing.

The ragdolls in that game were laughable at best. They forgot to add skeletons to the bodies so when you crashed it resulted in painful positions that'd make a yoga master cry. That was really the only attraction to it, imo... beyond that it was just a crappy game that's just recently gaining a cult following.
It's like trying to compare Mad Shark to Raiden 2.

I voted for THUG, but now i'm wondering if that was a mistake, Since i wasn't considering the first 4 games, Just the 3 recent console releases..
THAW looked promising (And the video was awesome) But it just doesn't cut it. One humoongous level, Well, the areas are smaller! And besides once you try it, You much rather want it THUG style.
THUG2, well, Was just "Punked out" - A WORLD DESTRUCTION TOUR? No way.
THUG Was perfect, You go from punk to pro, And the levels are great, I guess i'm siding with this one more because i'm more familiar with it's levels and i can rack up points like mad in it.
THPS Series, they were great too, But stay away from the PS1 version of THPS4.

Once you play one of the games where you can actually get off your board, it's hard to go back. This, the cool new flips and such you can do, and the great story mode made THAW my favorite.
But for straight up skating, my favorite level is still Kona from THPS4.

I remmeber Thrasher from the beginning, It was an early Rockstar game.
But, I actually do skate in real life. I found that people who actually skate in real life find Thrasher to be an amazing gaming expierence.
But people who have never so much as balance on a board often find find Thrasher to be too hard to learn and not as cool because you can't do a 3670 Madonna

This is a THPS thread. If you are that enthusiastic about Thrasher feel welcome to start your own thread.
I personally feel that the series has evolved much like the original NES Mega Man games. The first game was a great idea that laid the foundation for a sequel(being a little rough around the edges). The second and third games expanded and refined the gameplay to be a runaway success and the start of a great franchise. However, starting with the 4th game, the series began to run stale, with repetive levels and lame adjustments to the game. By the 6th or 7th game, people were completely indifferent to what was once a great idea. That being said, I consider Tony Hawk 2 to be the best with TH3 just inches behind. TH2 and TH3 are so sublime I still play them over and over wondering where all the gameplay and funfactor went in the later installments. Let me know which version is your favorite...

The second one, by a landslide. I didn't like the level design of the third nearly as much. The fourth was pretty good, I appreciated that they were changing the gameplay a bit, although it was clearly inspired by one of their own knock-off games, Aggressive Inline. I stopped caring at all with Underground, and haven't played any of them since.

I would say 3 was my favorite. I liked the level design and it was the only TH game I actually have paid for. I unlocked almost everything in there, but never got nearly as far in any of the subsequent games.

I loved the hell out of the second, but the third one gets special bonus points for supporting online play via a USB ethernet adapter on the PS2. That was just wicked cool at a time when there wasn't even an official network adapter for the system out yet.
If I ever stumble on a copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X for Xbox, I'll totally snap it up.

I really liked the free roaming aspect of Tony Hawk 4, but at the same time it was really Tony Hawk 3 that had the perfect combo of manuals and reverts that gave you limitless combo opportunities. So, Tony Hawk 3 was probably my favorite.

THPS3 has always been my favorite - you get spoiled real quick with that revert. And surprisingly, THUG2 was very good as well. The inclusion of the THPS4-style story mode and THPS3-style classic mode kept things interesting. I haven't really played any of the games after THUG2.

After having been a HUGE THPS fan up until 4 I felt the series just took a very very wrong turn with THUG, etc.

THUG is actually my fav tony hawk game ever.
Really, after they put in the revert, the game mechanics seemed pretty much the same (cept for proving grounds which started through its path pf crappy slo-mo moves from p8).
I thought it was cool that they tied a story into tony hawk.
THUG is the only tony hawk where i actually went through and got 100% completion on it getting all the gaps and everything.
THPS3 is the last one I played, and I enjoyed it the most, so it gets my vote.
