I'll get this out the way right now - I have not gotten one.

I was in EB today and someone came in and asked to have the Kingdom Hearts display, and the clerk gave it to him! I was like ... wtf?!? I didn't know you could do that!

Then I got right jealous wishing I had asked for it, and then came to my sense. What the hell would I do with it? My wife could kill me if I brought that home ;)

So, anyway, if you want one of these - make sure to ask. They will actually give them away.

It all depends on the store really. Some of them will tell you no, they "have to send them back" blah blah... or they will just give it to you OR tell you to check the dumpster in about a week.

Good luck with your quest, I too would also like one and I really don't want to pay the crazy $$$ for it on eBay.

I got the one from the Gamestop I work at, but after looking around my apartment I've come to the realization that it's either the KHII display, or the New Super Mario Bros. display I'll be getting in about 3 weeks. Do these things usually hold any kind of value with collectors? I have a few others that I might be getting rid of to make room for all of the crazy Nintendo ones I have.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any collector that willing to pay any more than shipping on some of the larger ones. They really are a hassle simply because most of them are so big.

The tabletop displays aren't bad, but they're usually still akward.

Unless you had some really old school displays of the games with big giant hardcore followings (Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, FFVII), you probably won't get much of anything for any standee.

The one the guy got at EB tonight was almost 5 feet tall.

He must really love KH II - I haven't ever played it yet :D

I've never gotten anything that big, but I did score a gigantic Biohazard Code Veronica poster from a game store on Okinawa when I asked. It was clazy, because I was asking if they had any of the smaller ones (~8.5x11 flyers or so) and the guy shook his head, asked me to wait a minute before going into the back, and came out with this god damn monster poster.

It ended up costing me $90 to get it framed :(

I've got large store displays for:

Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
Metroid Prime: Hunters
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Resident Evil 4

And small counter-top displays for

WarioWare: Twisted
Kirby: Canvas Curse
Yoshi's Touch and Go
Phantasy Star Online
Musashi: Samurai Legend
Marvel vs Capcom
Final Fantasy VII

All you really need to do is ask. It helps (requirement) that you're a good customer and/or know the staff.

As for worth, most people won't pay for shipping, but a lot will. Just check eBay. Popular games with more complex/3D elements, especially RPGs/Nintendo stuff, will always command good prices. I've been offered $100 for my Paper Mario standee just because it looks so damn cool.

I've got so many standees, its just taking up to much room now. I have about 20 under my bed just boxed and about 8 built and 10 that I ripped the backs off and put on my wall. Plus who knows what is in my attic.

Everything from windwaker to 50 cent. lol.

Example:

Plus numerous amounts of counter displays.

Only ones that really fetch money are the big names or the really cool looking ones with a someone what big name.

Likeblissful said with his papermario one.

What system is that on your floor - with street fighter? Did you make those controllers?

I really really really want the New Super Mario Bros. standee! Instantly fell in love with it. I'll probably make my rounds today at Metroplex Gamestops and see if I can twist any arms :-P

On another note, the only two standees I've ever owned were two 1950's Wilson ads of Ted Williams. One actually fetched $3500. Cost to ship the sucker...$110 via UPS. I never would have thought so much to ship a cardboard standee just over two feet tall. Packaging, materials, and an exorbitant insurance amount really influenced that price though.

Back on topic, collecting standees can really be space consuming, especially with many of them coming in at the size of the Kingdom Hearts II one. But like someone mentioned earlier, people frame these and hang them up. I never would have thought of that until recently with 'ol Ted and his purchaser.

Actually it was pretty obvious - that's Ryu's stage - is it a Ryu vs. Ryu battle? I can't really tell.

I don't remember offhand and sadly I wasn't able to bring the poster with me when I moved to Oklahoma (so right now it's sitting in my parents' basement where I hope to god it doesn't get damaged in a flood). IIRC it was a good 4 feet wide. I'm digging through my old digital photos to see if i can find a decent shot of it.

I too almost took hom ehte Kingdom Hearts II standee from work, but I decided that I would have no place to keep it. And if I wanted to maybe sell it, I would have to box the whole thing up and send it out, not worth the hassle to me

Most of them are claimed. Like at video stores the posters are claimed by employees

It all really depends on the game it is for. Anything Nintendo, Square, and sometimes Sega will go for alot.

A couple of years back one guy sold a terrible looking Tekken 3 standee for $700 plus shipping. It was just before the PS2 came out, it must have been 2 or 3 really dumb (or rich) fans bidding. It wasn't even nice looking, it was probably 4.5 feet tall and not 3-D or anything.....just a picture of Jin looking at his wrists.

I just sold a New Mario DS standee for $70 shipped. That is the going rate for any kind of desireable one. I have a Final Fantasy IX/The Bouncer standee that is "lenticular". When you look at it from one angle it is FF 9 from the other angle it is a Bouncer picture. It is around 6 feet tall and if I ever wanted to sell it (and it was on the right day) I would probably get around $150-300. But it is mine. ;)

If you hold onto something like that for more than 5 or 10 years....it will be worth some money, but who has the space? The 3-D ones are always more valuable and harder to ship.

I've got an 8 foot Rival Schools standee. It's pretty nifty looking even though it's disassembled and in my closet. I'm thinking aobut hauling it out sometime.

Not mine, but looks exactly like it:

I went to EB the other day. The guy at the counter asked if I like Kingdom Hearts. I said I love Kingdom Hearts. He asked if I wanted the standup display. I replied in the most articulate way I could muster at the time. I said, "Well hell yeah!"
I gave it to my girlfriend who is far more into it than I am. It's sitting in the corner of her bedroom, and looking wonderful.

I thanked the guy several times. He just said that he knows I'm a regular and that I deserve it as much as anyone else. Then the manager chimed in, "Yep, and it also saves him a trip to the dumpster."

I couldn't bear to see something that lovely trashed.
