As a kid, I was a huge fan of Kemco's Bugs Bunny games. Fun, addictive gameplay with memorable music was all I needed.

Years later, I find myself playing a ROM for a game called Micky Mouse. Much to my shock, It's the same Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle game I played as a kid.

I later discover that this is not where the Kemco Kraziness ends. Onward to Snoopy (Donald Duck)and Real Ghostbusters GB (Micky Mouse IV), I started seeing what was going on. Franchise mania. "Insert this cartoon character" into this game = $$$. Brilliant.

I was thinking about this today, so I went and did a little research. Behold, the beauty of wikipedia.

A Roger Rabbit game I never played?!?! Oh wait, I did play it, only, it was a Bugs Bunny game. This blew me away.

Good job Kemco. You guys really had some smarts back in the day. I just find this whole thing fascinating. Anyone care to add their thoughts?

Holy Shit...thanks to that wiki link (and you, ShinobiMan), I now know that Mickey Mouse III was known as Kid Clown inthe US and had a different story. See, I never played Kid CLown, so I didn't know that. Funny thing is I have the only known copy of the English language American version (a proto), so I'd really like to see what the differences are now. If anyone wants the rom to this unreleased proto, I'd gladly send it to you, but my computer is going to be down for another month or two. I did send it to one or two people on the board, but now I forget who. If those people are readng this thread, please chime in if anyone wants it.

So anyway, that's the story on why the Crazy Castle games were Disney in Japan, huh. I never knew that! Gotta love wikipedia...

Yeah, the Kid Klown thing caught me by surprise too. I had no idea that Kemco stretched that far with the whole thing. I would love to play the Micky Mouse version of Kid Klown.

Is there a known ROM of the Roger Rabbit Crazy Castle? I would kill to play this (seriously). O_O

If you'd like, Rob, I could put it up on the Contra H.Q. - I'm sure it qualifies SOMEHOW! LOL

You'd have thought that Kemco would have changed the sprite coloring in Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle....

Yup, my years of romset testing to their original carts revealed all sorts of this stuff - sadly I no longer have all the notes I wrote concerning crossovers... that's what happens when a project stretches over three years.

Super Spy Hunter on the NES for instance, isn't a Spy Hunter game, it was a totally unrelated Famicom game if I remember correctly. (can never remember the freaking title though)

You know, I sold my Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle a long time ago. Then, I almost immediately regretted it.

Years later, after I tried playing the game again, I don't regret it anymore. I can't believe I ever thought it was a fun game. It's terrible. I want Bugs to be able to jump so badly, especially when he's at the mercy of a tiny gap in the floor.

For anyone interested, I found some screenshots to the eneding of the Roger Rabbit version of crazy castle.

Very cool. Is it just me, or does the game work better as a Roger Rabbit game?

I saw the Mickey Mouse version on a pirate multicart long, long ago, and simply thought that it was a pirate sprite hack.

This explains that slightly incongrous release of a side-scrolling Ghostbusters game at such an odd time.

Rather odd that Kid Klown ended up being reused in another game or two, though.

Just an FYI - Last months Tip N' Tricks magazine talked about the Bug's Buddy games in the Collectors Corner. It may have been 2 months ago not sure.
