Not to my knowledge. But I have not experienced the number of UMDs that Gamereviewgod has.

No Firmware updates I've seen on traditional UMD Videos.
But I'd be wary of the Silent Hill UMD. It's a Konami product, there might be a firmware upgrade needed. It's more of an interactive comic, so I dunno.
If you've got a Game Crazy nearby you could always take your PSP up there and ask to try it out.

i have 1.5 too and i've only tried one movie (wedding crashers) and no problems.
However, the real fix to your problem is getting a utility called SXT changer. What it will do is trick your PSP into thinking it's on version 7.5, (it will even say this when you go to system info). That way any game (or perhaps movie) that tries to update the firmware will see that you have a newer version (even though you really still have 1.5).
Now I know what your next question is and the answer is right here: http://www.psprevolution.net/forum/thread.php?threadid=90
but you do have to register to their forums first before you can download.

I'd like to know this as well. I've been wanting to pick up the Silent Hill UMD for the collection, but don't know about the firmware. I was running 1.5 for quite some time for emulation, but I moved up to 2.0, because I like to be able to transfer movies to it, and I can downgrade from there anytime. Sony's Media Manager works GREAT and converts all formats I've tried so far perfectly, but I know that it requires some media updates that are unique to 2.0, so there may in fact be a few UMD Movies kicking around that won't work on 1.5.

Yes, some of the newer UMD movies require a firmware update.
My brother just bought the Rock 'N Roll High School UMD for his v1.5 PSP and it said he had to update to v2.60 in order to watch it. Heard Advent Children requires you to update too. AFAIK, this update requirement is recent, so older UMD's shouldn't have it.
I looked all over for some kind of hack for this but couldn't find anything. There are some apps that let you play 2.00+ UMD games on 1.50 PSP's, but they don't work for movie UMD's (I don't think they do. I tried and couldn't get it to work).
That 'fake' firmware upgrader really doesn't work though. Sure, it'll trick your PSP into thinking it's running on an higher FW, but you still need certain files on your PSP in order to run the game/movie. It might be possible to extract/replace the required files on the ISO and load it to your memory stick (like some people are doing with the 2.50+ firmware games), but I haven't tried it yet.

At this rate, I'm going to need a second PSP!
I am totally like you. I am so nervous. I think that if I insert the wrong game my psp will auto update. I am even afraid to try demos. Are you always be promted to update or are there auto updates?
Is the SXT changer a proven work around?

I'm pretty sure that auto updates are not possible, because the "normal" updates require that your battery is well charged AND that the PSP is on the charger. If they are so cautious, I doubt that they want to take the risk of using auto updates ! It could lead to some major problems.
I bought a second PSP, so one is at 1.50 and the other at (for the moment) 2.60. It cost me 50$ to get the second PSP :D

Yup. Just load Devhook up and select 'UMD Disc' for the UMD Mount option and the movie shouldn't have any problems playing (as long as you have the proper firmware loaded on your memory stick).

The Silent Hill Experience = No Update
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children = 2.60
Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel = 2.60 (tho this one ran from game menu)

whenever i need to know if a game requires a firmware version, i usually go to gamefaqs.com and look up said game, then go to the messageboard of that game, usually someones has already asked that question and its been answered!

OK that is total horse dung that UMD movies require firmware upgrades! I never knew that. That makes no sense to me at all.
How in the hell did they ever expect UMD movies to last?
