I have a Sonic Edition Saturn myself, and happily in perfect condition, but there are many things on my mind about this unit.

Does anyone have more information on this unit? Production numbers, how rare, etc? The whole lid controversy is interesting as well..

EVERY single one I have ever seen being sold, has the lid that is brighter than the rest of the body, even a 'new' one. I just found this interesting, it seems that maybe Sega produced this model with a lid that was brighter, not by much, but you can tell.

But anyways, more information on this system would be fantastic, because my knowledge isn't that large that on it, and I'd love to know more.

I gotta say though, it sure looks sexy on my shelf ;-)

Yeah, there isn't that much info available on the unit. It was definately only sold in Toys 'R' Us in Japan, but that's about all that's know. I've never seen production numbers of any kind, but it was certainly very limited. Rarer than a Hi-Navi even.

Definately very very cool, but I couldn't justify spending the cash on one as I already have a standard white Saturn.

Got a pic of it sat there in your gaming set-up?

I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of it myself. I don't think I've ever seen one.

Rarer than a Navi Saturn? Thats pretty rare.

My friend bought one of those on ebay a few years back and when it arrived it was broken already. The seller of course neglected to list this in the auction. It was probably the saddest thing I've ever seen in my history of video game playing. A broken Navi Saturn. :(

I'll maybe get a picture later, but currently I'm at work so not right now ;-)

It is a beautiful system though, heh.

you see them out here from time to time but it is so sad when they are yellow due to the original owners being chimneys :( There are so many ruined white saturns, dreamcasts, and peripherals out here that i pass up regularly due to the "yellowing". I could procure some of those though if need be just would take some time.

When I heard about a "Sonic Saturn" way back when it was mighty appealing. When I finally got to check one out I was glad I didn't pick it up. I'm happy with my standard white Saturn.

to be honest I prefer my fully region/freq switch modified white Saturn with 220-240 VAC PSU... ^__^ It even has the official white wireless pad

And to think all I have is the generic black Saturn :)

Rarer than a Hi-Navi even.
This is totally wrong. The Navi saturns show up for sale on Yahoo maybe once or twice a year, and sell for over $500 in crappy condition with no box. The Sonic Saturns sell for less than a hundred, in good shape and boxed.

I've had a half dozen Sonic Saturns, but only ever had 3 Navis - and usually because I'd go way, way out of my way for a Navi but not cross the street for a Sonic.

Now naturally this is based only on personal experience, but by all accounts there are only 2,000 Navi Saturns in existence, where the Sonic was available in at least some quantity in every TRU store in Japan - and there are a lot.
