View Full Version : Devil's Crush vs. Dragon's Fury
I was just wondering what are the main differences between these games. I've never had a Turbo Grafx or a Pc Engine, but I have always heard alot about Devil's Crush being one of the best video Pinball games ever, I have never played it.
I first played Dragon's Fury on a Genesis emulator for DC. The rom said DRAGONFU and I thought it was going to be a Kung Fu game so I loaded it up. I only had to play it once to get hooked. I found myself playing it more than any of my real Dreamcast games. Many moons later I was searching through the Genesis games for sale at Video Wine Party, a liquor store/video rental store and found a complete copy of this game for $2 complete with a sticker on the cart that says Liquor Video (No copy of Dragon's Fury is really complete without this sticker). I bought it and have been playing the shit out of it for years now.
Then one day about a year ago or so, I was looking at screen shots of Devil's Crush and I realized that it was pretty much the same game as Dragon's Fury. Does anyone know what the differences are between these two titles. Which came first, and why was it renamed. If I should ever have a tg16 or pce, would it be worth picking up this title for it hefty price tag if I already have Dragon's Fury?
What do you guys feel about these two titles. Also, in your own opinion, do Alien's Crush for TG and Dragon's Revenge for GEN compare to this game/s?

Dragon's Fury is just the Genesis port of Devil's Crush. It's the same game. If you find Devil's Crush for the TG16, it shouldn't be expensive, so the question of whether or not to buy it is up to you. I have both. :)

IMO, Best to worst ranking is as follows:
BEST
Dragon's Revenge
Dragon's Fury / Devil's Crush
Alien Crush
WORST
Some folks will tell you that Dragon's Revenge isn't as good as Fury; I'm not one of them. ;) I think Revenge is better all the way around. It has lots more cool stuff to do, lots more hidden/bonus stuff to find, and it has that awesome floating girl/dragon head in it. And it kicks a ton of ass.
On the other hand, I've probably played both games equally (and a lot) over the years, so if that counts toward anything, maybe it means I like them both about the same.
Alien Crush is a little blah, sort of a trial run. By the time they put together Devil's Crush, they had figured everything out, DC is vastly superior to AC. Still worth picking up, especially if you like the others in the series, if only for the curiosity factor.

Alien Crush is one of my favorite games of all time. With great music and a lot of addicting elements such as the game within a game, there is a lot to be had with this title.

I had always played Devil's Crush (which is basically Dragon's Fury) on the TG16 (my friend's uncle owned it and when he'd visit, it was the highlight) and it was the first of the two I played. I discovered Alien Crush years later when I started collecting TG16 games. Alien Crush was always my favorite of the two. They are very similar in design and gameplay, only with a different theme.
There was a direct sequel to Dragon's Fury on the Genesis called Dragon's Revenge. I always thought the digitized woman in this game looked like my aunt.

ANYWAY... here is a nice page I found for you that will answer a lot of questions. I learned a lot I didn't know. Thanks for prompting me to dig that up.

I believe I have an extra Alien Crush (not in the cardboard, just gem and card) for TG if anyone wants to buy or trade. Not trying to derail the thread, just thought of it while reading this. Devil's Crush is an awesome game - I don't know how the Genesis port compares but I can honestly say that this game is (1.) The reason I got a TurboExpress and (2.) The reason I learned how to run emulation on my 1.5 PSP. :D
Cool, thanks for your oppinions. I will probably end up with Dragon's Revenge before Alien's Crush because I have a genesis and no tg16. But I think my cousin may still have his and never play it. I'm going to call him up and see if he can send it to me.
Are there any other games in this series that I don't know of?

I'm guessing that jpeg that doesn't show up is supposed to be Crue Ball.
And no, no love for Crue Ball. :) The gameplay is awful with table physics not of this earth. @_@

There's another one called Jaki Crush but I'm not sure if it's actually part of the series.

I love the music in "Dragon's Fury".
As for "Dragon's Revenge"...all i can think about is the comment on Genesis Collective.
"This is the game i play with my pants off!!" - talking about the "moaning" the floating female head when you hit it. LOL

Yeah it's part of the series. It was a Naxat release like Alien and Devil's so it's counts as part of the series more than Revenge does. I don't like Jaki as much as the other though.
As for the initial question, I prefer the look and sound of the TG16 version over the Genesis one.

I think the PCE/TG version of Devils Crush beats the Genny version.. but definitely not as much as PCE/TG Aeroblasters beats Genny Airbusters :)

Of interest for Compile fanboys is that said company did the programming on both Devil and Alien on the PC Engine. They don't seem to have had anything to do with Jaki Crush, though, not that I've ever heard of that game.

I'm pretty sure Jaki Crush was mentioned on Compile's old site (look in the Internet Archive).
What system is Jaki Crush for. Is Jaki Crush a PCE game? I can't find it in the PCengine Bible.

No, Jaki Crush was for the Super Famicom. I remember reading about it EGM long ago, but I didn't know it actually came out. I just downloaded...er, well, you know what comes next.
My preferences (minus Jaki Crush, which I haven't tried...yet) in order:
Devil's Crush (the best video pinball game ever)
Dragon's Fury (not much separating it from Devil's Crush, but I give the latter a slight edge for sharper graphics and seemingly slightly crisper controls)
Dragon's Revenge (certainly not as good as Devil's Crush/Dragon's Revenge, in my opinion; I just don't be able to drop into the zone so easily with it)
Alien Crush (amazingly, this game is almost bad; it just feels clunky and uninspired compared to its sequel)
How will Jaki Crush compare?

Yeah, it was. I remember putting it in that Compile history thread I did a while back and that was all stuff listed on their site.

And if we want to get nitpicky, it should be "Jaki Hakai," not "Jaki Crush"

The box/game does have "Jaki Crush" on it in English too though so you can't go wrong either way. ;)
ooh, Jaki Crush looks awsome. I want to get it, and all I've seen so far is the packaging and the cart. I typed it in on ebay, all the copies look pretty minty. I don't have an SFC, just SNES. I might have to get a converter or something (something means SFC system), cause I wouldn't want to knife such a minty cart.
Man I wish I had some $. I would buy that $hit right now. Its been a while since I've bought a video game purely on hype, although I was pretty hyped up when I bought my Neo Geo MVS cab a few weeks ago (the reason why I'm broke now). I hate to say it but I might have to dl the rom so I can play it. That way I can buy it strictly for gameplay purposes when I get paid.
Damn, nobody has it on gametz
looks like I'm not trading for it, at least not now.
Does anyone know what Jaki means?
ok, emulated it for like 30 seconds and all my expectations were correct. Love the game, hate emulators as much as always. They never run full screen. The graphics are awsome.
ok, I found a comparison sight using google

Jaki means "He who posts 6 times in a row in the same thread"
I've always been under the impression that Jaki Crush was just an enhanced version of Devil's Crush, but still the same game.
Sorry dude, I just heard of a 13 year old game that I really want to play but have never heard of before. I got kinda excited.

No, it's a totally different game, though there are some similarities, moreso than between Alien Crush and Devil's Crush.
It seems really good from what I played. Graphically, obviously very nice since the SNES does such lovely graphics, but also a well designed table, much better than Dragon's Revenge. I'd say that the difficulty is definitely a higher even though the ball seems to be a little more floaty. The difficulty may be largely because it's so easy to fall down to the bottom set of flippers and much more difficult to get up to the second or third set from there. In Devil's Crush I spend most of my time in the middle set and moving back and forth from one set to another is usually easy.
Definitely a worthy game for the series, though. It's a shame the series ever had to end. I wonder who owns the rights to the games now? A collection on the DS or something would be really cool.

My laptop has a nice feature that stretches some graphic modes to fill the screen, so I can get good fullscreen modes for NES, SNES, Turbo and SMS stuff. Not for Genesis, at least with any of the emulators I've tried. Or MAME in most cases. Also, the video card isn't able to handle those fullscreen resolution modes through the TV-out port or else I'd have a pretty perfect little universal semi-portable gaming machine.
I used to hate emulation, too, but my opinions have changed recently. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I had to sell most of my real consoles.

According to the New Nelson character dictionary:
devil, imp, evil spirit

It seems they're gone. It was a division of Kaga Electronics, as was Taxan, which is around.
