and i also got the other one the guy had...
im a little slow, i THOUGHT this was the blockbuster world championship cart.. duh.
so can anyone shed a little more light on what this is, and was it related to the championship cart? ...and by the way i DID read the description.. i was just wondering if anyone knew more.....

i probably shouldnt have got them both at $33 dollars each...

oh well

i consider 33 each for them a pretty good deal. they were used to load a game onto and then rent out from what i understand. not the championship cart though.

one other thing im curious about, when these go in the Genesis DP list, will they be listed as released games, or in the proto section?

That's a toughie. Technically it's not a prototype but it's not a game. I think it should be classified as a peripheral because it's a reuseable reprogrammable game device, pretty much the same as Supercharger and Cuttle cart for 2600.

It was also used to send early version of games to magazine reviewers. AFAIK there are 3 versions of the Game Factory.

Green label (NL103) has 16Mbit Flash ROM (2x8Mbit) and Blue label (NL102) has 32MB flash ROM (4x8Mbit). There's also a red version but I never got it (one went at $100) which I think would have the number NL101. I don't know what size but I'd guess one 8Mbit Flash ROM.

I have a total of 8 green and 2 blue (I may have a couple more "lost" in my collection LOL my collection's almost as bad as that infamous chocolate factory LOL) but only one has a game on it. (Toejam and Earl: Panic on Funkotron) I got them all for $3 each at Blockbuster a few years ago and I haven't found any since then. I doubt there are any Blockbuster that has any.

If only I had access to the game programmer, I could have some serious fun. Any of you have any idea of how to get or build a programmer?

I don't think it's a good deal at all.

I picked up a green and a blue one from Goodwill Hunter in September for a trade (small potatoes), and got one of each from Mike at Collector's House for $9 each. The RED ones are tricky, I never see them.

@Impmon: You're the first person I've met who can claim that theirs has a game loaded on it. That means the burner exists... somewhere!

Have to agree with DP on the deal part. That is, unless you needed them to complete your collection and are tired of looking for them.

I also agree with Impmon in that they are accessories. Definitely not protos because they were mass-produced. Similarly, on their own, they don't do anything.

Interesting part of Genesis history, but not much more to say about that.
