Personally I'd say a SNES along with a Tototek flash cart for translations. Next up would be a PStwo with all the PS2/PSone RPGs.

Thought about it hard because I really don't play much RPG's..

Voted SNES / Super Nintendo....though.

I think people are voting with their hearts and not their heads. If the PC is a voting option (and it is) it should win hands down. There are hundreds of RPGs for Dos/Windows based PCs compared to a few dozen each for the console systems listed.

It's more a lack of knowing anthing about PC games in general. I know the PS1/2 and SNES are the best console wise, so that's why I suggested those.

As a PC gamer, which I assume you are, if you're telling me that there is a greater selection of better games I'll take your word for it.

Quantity isn't always quality :l Sure there are tons upon tons of RPGs for the PC but I mean there are tons of any sort of genre of game for the PC b/c there are so many private developers and game companies can take a much smaller risk with a PC game than any console game. Console games are meant to attract the publics eye and be sought after, PC games are much too easily distributed and such. PC has a few "good" RPGs but nothing to even compare to games like Chrono Trigger or the Lunar games

KOTOR and KOTOR2 are Xbox exclusives. If that's your favorite RPG, you might pick Xbox.

I think the best RPG consoles are SNES and PS1. I went with PS1 because I knew most people were going to vote SNES.

Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Star Ocean 2, Breath of Fire 3, Azure Dreams, SaGa Frontier, Valkyrie Profile, Persona, so much goodness.

KOTOR is probably my single favorite traditional RPG with Jade Empire in the mix there. The SNES and PS1 are also pretty high up there as far as overall quality. But I voted for GBA because for my money, it doesn't get any better than Fire Emblem and Advance Wars.

No comedy "Turboduo" option?

Hey, come on, we had Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes!

Well for me it is dependent on generation.

I'd go with the NES for the 8-bit era.

Then for the 16-bit era I'd go with the SNES

After this I'd say the Sony consoles (PSX&PS2) are the strongest consoles for RPG's.

(This implies for US consoles)

I'd say SNES and PSX are the two best systems for RPGs. They have the highest number of them and usually have the better quality ones aswell.

i'd say the gameboy, because it's the only system that's got rpg's that will get you hooked! Zelda, pokemon etc..

Yup, just like consules have no "bad" RPGs.
Lets face it, "What system is the BEST for RPGs?"... Hands down PC. It's be developed for years, the system hasn't died ( LOL ) and still produces games, applications, ect. Just because you lack in knowledge towards what the PC really has and to claim just anyone can homebrew on it isn't a reason to dismiss it otherwise lets say all homebrews on consules are crap too.

All I really need to say are Sierra, Interplay, Sony, Gas Power Games, Microsoft... Those are just a few BIG companies that have made old games and lasted to today or have just started up in the field. Sierra is a huge player with adventures of the early 90's so ya. If anyone wants to continue with smaller, lesser known companies that made great PC, MAC, or other games for computers feel free to share.

But if you do want to go with consule, it's a good race between SNES & PSX, although there are some decent ones on the DC, NES, and other great systems.

Haha cyberfluxor. Shit on me a little harder please :P Ya after you said that I agree there are probably quite a few great RPGs for the PC unfortunatley I must of missed out on em :l
On another note though I cant believe no one has picked Sega CD yet guess there arent any Lunar fans out there :l

My personal favorite system for role-playing games is the Super NES. I feel that it offers the best mix of variety and quality in its highly impressive list of RPGs.

PSX, PS, PSOne, PS1 the name of teh winner..

Like PSX has the best selection of RPG games,..

Like:
- Dragon Quest/Warrior 7
- Final Fantasy VI
- Final Fantasy VII
- Final Fantasy VIII
- Final Fantasy IX
- Breath of Fire IV
- Vagrant Story
- Chrono Cross
- Legend of Mana
- Xenogears

So PSX is my first choice and the second is SNES of course.. ^.^
