NO, really. (http://www.engadget.com/2004/10/26/lego-robot-plays-super-mario-bros-and-wins/)

I'd be interested to see if they could get it to play Gyromite. Just for the paradox that is a robot vs. another robot (ROB).

Awesome, but note that the robot is simply pressing the buttons based on a timer, not actually "playing" the game. The process is basically the same as playing back a ZSNES movie, or using the Famicom peripheral which records input for later playback.

LOL at the Gyromite suggestion.

Is there a movie somewhere? All i see is a red cross, like dead picture link. But ye, i aslo thought about pushing buttons on timer. Since the enemies comes at the exact same spot everytime you play it shouldnt be that hard to make. Still very cool tho :)

There's two links right after the text of the article labeled "Read," which lead to some other information.

Thats pretty neat but it would have been better if it actually played the game

That's awesome. If it could be synchronized exactly to the vertical blank, it could be used to play back some tool-assisted speedruns on actual hardware.

I wonder what that place is in the background (ya know the warehousish place w/ a lotta chairs). could it be a rec cnter. god, I wish my after-school club had a NES... or people who respected it, for that matter :( but, then again, I never go there anyways ;)

Personally I'm not too impressed. I've seen a cat play super Mario bros before.

I like it. Of course the robot is programmed to hit the buttons in a certain sequence, I thought that was a given even before clicking the link.

I like the guys webpage:

THE CROWDS WERE HUGE AND BOISTEROUS, WITH OUR NINTENDO PLAYING ROBOT CLEARLY DRAWING THE MOST FANS...

...and there's like 3 guys staring at the screen with blank looks.

Well, if you could train a robot how to play games without knowing the levels beforehand, that would be very impressive.

I have a couple dozen key-press movies on my harddrive, where my computer can play a game without any input from me, and they're not actual "movies." It's exactly the same thing as what the robot is doing here, so I thought it might be more than that.
