After years, I keep debating over which Silent Hill was the most disturbing and darkest out of the series. In both storyline, atmosphere, and imagery. Which one really made you feel uncomfortable, nervous, or just plain disturbed?
I've actually met people who claimed that Silent Hill does NOT scare them. If you cannot be disturbed a bit by what Silent Hill has to offer, then I seriously applaud you for having a strong will.
Some say that fear is caused by the human eye at first. If it sees an image it cannot understand or process, your mind goes into a state of confusion, which leads into fear.
If you wish to add the most scariest moments of Silent Hill, please do so.
For being the freakiest, I'd say the third one.
But for eeriness, I'm going to also go with number one, the original Silent Hill. It was the limitations of the 32-bit PSX hardware that gave it that wonderful fogged out, scratchy appearance. We hadn't seen anything like that before and it surprised the hell out of us. I used to give phone help to people when they got stuck on games....and far and away THE number one phonecall that I got for any videogame was for the solution to the piano key puzzle in Silent Hill.
Those little teeny, black, dead babies in the school that scurried around your feet and went under the door were freaky too. And that fuckin' radio........I used to dread hearing the static when I was first learning the game. The damned pink bat-birds would come out of nowhere. Awesome CGs.
I want to go and fire it up now. LOL

Silent Hill was amazing when it came out...that was so damn creepy. I think Silent Hill 2 has held up a bit better on the creepiness, though.
3 just went a bit overboard. :(

Probably the third one. Lots of creepy moments and the made the hospital dark world damn right brutal. If anyone remembers what happened in the final cinematic before the end boss...ugh...I think you know what I mean.

Clearly number 1.
Tidbit of info. SH1 PAL version didn't have those demon kids in the school, they were censored out.
What a shame too, all we got in there were the brown evil teddy bear looking things, with the claws and such.

I just recently got Silent Hill 1 (PSX) and Silent Hill 2 (PS2) and haven't had the chance to play either one. I don't own a PS2 and my friend borrowed the original the second he found out I got it. I know the background of the game and have friends that played each so they are good by far from what I've heard. After watching the movie I've wanted to pop the games in even more and check out what's up. But since I don't have a PS2 I'll have to settle with just the first being the best til I play the rest. (But I haven't voted ;))

If you want, I can hook you up with gameplay movies of the first three games. They're not speed runs, just well edited together playthroughs of the entire games, the multiple endings, various secrets, etc. Some of the more repetitve stuff (some item hunting and such) is edited out and they flow really well.
they're also reasonably large (1.2 gb for the first game, for instance), but they're worth a look-see if you're unable to play the games :)

Are you sure those people weren't soulless androids or something because man those games creep me out!? @_@
As for the most darkest and creepiest Silent Hill, I'm going with SH 2. The whole game just freaks you out, especially the dead James lookalike in the apartments and the Gallows, etc.
