I noticed that a lot of games published by ASCII in Japan are published by Nexoft in America.
What is the connection? Did ASCII have a stake in Nexoft or were the two companies entirely separate?

This page asserts that ASCII owned Nexoft, but I haven't found anything else that says so.

Oddly, the domestic version of Gun*Nac has the ASCII logo on the game cartridge and the Nexoft name in the intro/title screen. I'm curious what the back of the box says since I just have a loose cartridge. Maybe it mentions something about both companies in the small print.

Only ASCII is mentioned on the back of the box (aside from Tokyo Shoseki who I assume developed the game).

At one time I had some kind of NES accessory that had both ASCII's and Nexoft's logo on it. For some reason, I can't think of what it was, though.

Compile developed the game (Tokyo Shoseki aka Tonkin House was the original Japanese publisher).

There were two accessories released by Nexoft on the NES, the Dominator Master Control unit, and the Dominator ProBeam wireless light gun. I'm not sure about the Master Control unit, but the ProBeam gun does have ASCII / EFA / Nexoft listed with the copyright. The logo on the boxes for both accessories is simply from Nexoft, though.
