What game is this? It looks suspiciously like Solstice...or vice versa?

Head Over Heels. Probably the greatest ever isometric perspective platform game ;)

I downloaded (but never ended up playing) a Windows remake of the game last year. It's out there in case anybody's interested.

Head over Heels is one of the better isometric games out there for the Spectrum and Amstrad. The same guy who did that one also did a Batman game that's quite good. All of Ultimate: Play the Game's isometric games are good, too, especially Knightmare. And you can't go wrong with Quazatron, of course.

It's too bad most American import gamers concentrate only on Japan, when there's an absolute goldmine of fantastic European games that never made it here. Manic Miner alone is worth the cost of importing a Spectrum, and anybody claiming to be a video game historian ought to be intimately familiar with the works of Ultimate: Play the Game (later to become Rare). The games are cheap, too. I've got stacks and stacks of Spectrum, Amstrad, and BBC Acorn games that I got for next to nothing off E-Bay. Only downside are the load times, since they're on tape.

It's a cool game. I had the C64 port back in the day. The Windows remake seemed quite good except I couldn't get it to work properly with my controller.
