tell me about the AMSTRAD

any experts out there care to shed some light on this platform, apparently it was a UK (only?) computer from the 80's with a pretty big library of games. how was it, sort of like a C64? was it more of game platform or a computer, what formats were the games on. was it fun? do people collect these games?

Amstrad came third in the UK computer battle; first Sinclair Spctrum, second C-64, and third Amstrad CPC.

Amstrad, a tape loading computer with the tape machine built onto the side of the keyboard. Anything released for the Speccy and C-64 was also converted to the CPC, therefore it had a huge software library. I even believe that it had a bigger UK software library than the C-64 because it was easy for software houses to convert a Spectrum game to the CPC, and the Spectrum did have a massive UK software library, to be compared with the USA Apple II (which didn't do anything in the UK). Unlike the Spectrum, the CPC had midly success in the rest of Europe, because in Germany, the company Schneider (Radios, TV's) had their own German CPC.
Oh, also Amstrad mainly did Radios, TV's and such. Later Amstrad tried to do a console (GX4000), at the same time as the C-64 console, but it was not successful.

Amstrad purchased Sinclair Spectrum, and now released a Telephone with screen/internet access and Spectrum games built in.

All I remember about the Amiga was that it had a spitting image game. Which was brilliant.
Ahh, the move where you piss all over the others is pure genius.

I had an amstrad at one point. Nothing with it though. It had built in BASIC and an odd mouse that was ST/Amiga compatible except that up and down were inverted. Useful in a pinch though.
