Sounds like a last ditch effort to avoid going under.
I don't think they're going to survive.

Maybe, although it seems unlikely since...

Revealed EARTHWORM JIM ONTO NEXT-GENERATION HANDHELD AND ONLINE
along with other games like Battlezone. It was looking bad for Atari, but Infogrames seems to be slapping the Atari name on everything now. The return of Earthworm Jim is expected to bring a new life into the company.

Meh, they're all shoveling out crap now - and Atari is no exception. I hope it all just collapses, allowing indie gaming to take serious root and bring forth a new golden age akin to the early '90s.

what do you mean by "inde gameing" - homebrews?
if thats what you mean - it would be nice for the scene to get more exposure, but a collapse? I wouldnt want to see that. I wouldnt mind seeing the companies feeling some pain from releasing crap in hopes that it would bring about better quality.
Which is what i hope is happening to Atari right now. I play thier games and always say to my self "this game could have been so much better" " it has many of the elements but they droped the ball in refining it" - for example Robocop

i didnt know atari was in trouble... i think this is to get good PR with gamers of last/current gen, while drawing them into the next gen.

They're still very much in trouble with the future of the company in doubt.

What's so revolutionary about this? Budget games have been available since the early 80's with various names such as "platinum" "Player's Choice" "Value Range" and now "Gamersfirst".
I fail to see what makes this so exciting and groundbreaking.

Maybe Best Buy will finally drop their Indigo Prophecy on Xbox to the $19.99 price point that every other retailer has been at for months now. :/
Thing that sucks is that they're the only place around with sealed copies.

Yes, atari has been in trouble since about 1979, they are constantly one step away from financail ruin. It is one of the only absolutle truths in the videogaming industry.
