I like to think that Konami has learned that people are DYING for another 2-d classic Playstation game. I know I am one of them too. Just look at the sales from the GBA ones. They're great, but I would love to see one on the PS2. Koji Igarashi is the king. I bet he won't screw it up.
Great news though... thanks for posting it.

I hope, with this game, they make there be literally hundreds of secrets,(if they make it 2D) then the PS2 can surely support a few hundred unlockables (like clothing, charactersm abilitys, multiple castles, ect.) *crosses fingers*

Or take a cue from Megaman EXE that's coming out for the Gamecube. Not necessarily cel-shaded, though.

Least konami knows there's still a market for 2-d games, which is good.

I hope they get rid of that Metroid-esque crap from SOTN...personally, I feel that SOTN and the GBA games were a letdown...I miss the action oriented non-leveling Castlevanias, like Castlevania 3 and Drac X: Rondo of the Blood. Konami needs to avoid these sissified, too-easy Castlevanias.

Dude, Rondo is a sissified, too easy, castlevania :) It offered the least challenge of all the ones I've played (i think SotN is a close second though).

How do you figure that? The only 2d game they've released recently that wasn't on the GBA was Gradius 3 & 4 on PS2, which didn't exactly burn up the sales charts. Sure they put out the 2d Castlevania games on the GBA, but that hardware doesn't exactly do 3d. Just beacuse they're releasing 2d games on 2d hardware doesn't mean they know or care that there might be a market for 2d games on "next-gen" hardware.
Personally, I think it'll be 3d. I'd love to see a 2d sprite fest Castlevania on a non-protable, but I doubt it'll happen.

If it's in 3D, I'm gonna take a shit on Konami's front steps.

Are you telling me that you DIDN'T get your ass ground into the ground by the Reaper on the pirate ship? Come ON!! I still stand my by statement that the move Castlevanias that come out lately, the easier they get. SOTN was WAY too easy, as were the GBA ones.

I disagree. The Metroid-style exploration was the best thing to ever happen to the Castlevania series since its inception, in my opinion. Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon, and Harmony of Dissonance aren't as hard as the previous Castlevanias, but they're not as sluggish in control or as frustrating in their challenges.
With the exception of Dracula X: The Rondo of Blood, I've never been that impressed with the old-school Castlevania games. They're decent by the standards of the late 80s, but I find them uninspired and tedious in this day and age.
I wonder if Konami might make the latest Castlevania a 2-D game with polygons assisting in the backgrounds and visual effects. That would be the limit of the 3-D I'd want to see in a Castlevania.
I have been very displeased with the Metroid-ish Castlevania games. SOTN was fine, but after the first one a person just misses the original game styles. I didn't really have much of a beef with either of the 3-D Castlevania games, except for the fact that the first one was just a quick release of the second game.
I have played several homemade Castlevania games following the footsteps of the originals, Konami needs to go back to its roots with the Castlevania series. If not, they will lose a fan, like Capcom did with the new Mega Man shit, and Nintendo did with the "perform stunts to gain stuff" Mario games.

Shaft was the hardest boss in Rondo but that really isnt saying much. Its a shame that Dracula was such a puss in the game, especially when using Maria. I love frustratingly hard games... the anger they inspire in me, keeps the desire to beat the *bleep* outta it alive. The one reason why it took me forever to end Rondo (and I think I posted this in NB) was because I would quickly get bored waltzing through it.
While I love the Metroidvania games, I think Konami should make a direct follow up to Rondo in terms of gameplay style: keep the old school platforming action, but include tons of secret passages (what haunted houses doesnt have one?), hidden characters, etc. Or maybe a King of the Fighters'98 styled 'dreammatch' where you can choose from several characters to start with (ie, Maria, Richter, Alucard, Trevor, Simon, etc).
