I bought a game from Italy and in the auction it said it would work great on a Mattel system. What i know Mattel systems was widely sold in Italy, Australia and England, countries that uses PAL-A, so i assumed the game was PAL-A.

I recived the game some days ago, but i notice now that the game is from USA. Thats why i wonder if it will work on a Mattel NES. If it does i cant really say anything to the seller. I would never have bought it if i knew it was from USA. Yes, i have removed the lockout chip thingie so i can play it, but i mostly bought it for collection purpose :)

Which game was it? My guess is that the seller just listed it wrong, I've bought lots of US games listed as PAL games on eBay.

if the cart code finished with "-USA" it will works

It's a "Mattel" NES because Nintendo give to Mattel the right to distribute outside the US.

Even in Canada, all NES sold are Mattell, we arent PAL.

exactly, sniper's got it right - "mattel" isn't a good enough description. "mattel" can be either NTSC or PAL.

Why have I never heard this?? How does the Canadian Mattel differ from the USA version?

Just the labels on the bottom were different IFAIK. They have both French and English plus a Mattel label with a phone number in Canada.
Also boxed documentation was in 2 languages.

I have seen two different Mattel labels in Canada, a grey one and a red one.

Exactly, apart from that, nothing else.

You've probably never heard of this because it only applied to the titles published by Nintendo themselves, such as the black boxes, super marios, etc. Titles by third parties have no canadian mattel variant (everything exactly the same). So you could find a canadian stack up but not a canadian little samson, for example.
