Option Theif - Gradius Series: Don't know if it has an official name but this is what I call it. My father was playing Gradius III on the SNES one day and he told me about this theif that came and jacked two of his four Options. Since my dad told me about him, I had the advantage of at least knowing such a foe was in the game. You see, Options/Multiples are EVERYTHING in Gradius games. You ain't got Options in a Gradius games and you're in a tight situation, the odds of you get screwed increase ten fold. I had the rotating Options and I was in the fire level. All was going well and then I heard this noise like a siren going off. I look to the left off the screen and there it was, the Option Theif. It charged at me and by moving up, he didn't get any of my goods. :P That being said, I still consider him a threat, especially in Gradius V because I didn't see him coming one time and he jacked ALL of my Multiples!!

Medusa Heads - Castlevania Series: My freaking word, this could quite possibly be the most annoying enemy in a video game. Even when I anticipate them coming I still get knocked down steps or into a pit! Agghh!!

Quick Man - Mega Man 3: He was a push over for me in MM2 but in MM3 he's even fast and he has a flat playing field to fight you on, making him the most irsksome of all the Doc Robots for me to fight. I've even had to use E Tanks on him and I hardly ever have to resort to an E Tank on a Robot Master in a Mega Man game. He is indeed a worthy and annoying foe.

LOL Medusa Heads were the first enemies that popped into mind... my goodness... it was like if you expected to jump, they would read your mind and go up.

If you expected to duck them, they read your mind and dove.

ARGH!

Kwan in Rise To Honor. Actually, most of the game had me frustrated. The most frustrating part was the Boiler Room scene. That one was SO HARD i spent hours to try to get past it, and when i did, i forgot to save (Kwan got me so mad i turned off hte PS2 without saving the file! AGH!)

Oh well. I sold that game for $5 recently. Bought it used.

Not really a boss, but the extra levels on Supreme Master for DDII. The fact that you can lose a whole life in one miscalculation was ridiculus. You could make it all the way there with full life, only to be destroyed by frustration.

that final boss in dead or alive 3 on xbox... god that was annoying as hell.

The one in DOA4 is even worse.

But my vote, hands down, goes to the very last boss in the Xbox version of Ninja Gaiden.

Damn impossible.... Even with a full supply of potions.

Lakitu from the first Super Mario Bros. used to be such a thorn in my side when I first encountered him in level 4-1. Throwing those pesky spines and he would always keep up with me even if I ran. Imagine my surprise when I found you could kill the little beast!! I jumped on some bricks I hadn't busted and stomped on his head. Man, I miss the days where you could kill an enemy by stomping on them. :(

I agree. Without a doubt, Ulma's first form is the toughest boss in the game. If anything, I felt the bosses got easier after that.

My vote goes to Magneto in X-Men: Children of the Atom for the Saturn. It is IMPOSSIBLE to beat that bastard. He stays up in the air half the time, and counters everything you try to do.

I don't know what they are called "and I am too lazy to look it up), but in the original Legend of Zelda, I hate those dudes in the dungeons who have the swords and shields. I also don't like the dude with the shield in Zelda 2.

Highly annoying.

In the second Zelda, the knights in the castles.
Lakitu and squids from Mario.
Bats, Medusaheads, and those things the eagles drop in Castelvania.
The game Cheetahmen 2 (you can't duck, as such, 80 percent of your enemies are annoying)
There are plenty of others I can't think of.

I actually don't have too much trouble with the regular Castlevania Medusa Heads/Bats/Fleamen (Hunchbacks), and in fact I almost always use the bats and medusa heads to skip parts of the games (first and second levels respectively).

Now, that damned frankenstein/invincible humper combination...arrrgh...too hard without a subweapon :P

And heck, a lot of things fall into that catagory.

How could this thread even come up and not mention Luca Blight from Suikoden II?

You have to take him on in a "war" battle and beat him, then you have three parties of characters - two of which are pretty much guaranteed to be murdered outright (unless you've been leveling EVERYONE) and then you still have to fight him one-on-one!

Second hardest boss fight EVER.

Don't even get me started on Apollo in FFL2...

RegSNES

The Rock Monster/Yellow Devil from Mega Man 1. 3 hits and you're dead? :eek 2: You gotta have Spidey-like reflexes to beat that dude. Without the Elec Beam cheat, I mean.

Lord Contaminous
05-15-2006, 09:59 AM
Ehh he wasn't so bad for me....

Surprisingly, I never knew about the select button trick with the Elec Beam, so I did it the hard way since childhood.

Blackjax
05-15-2006, 01:43 PM
The funny thing is that I DID beat him regular-style back in the day.

Now i walk in the room and die unless I do the elecman (it works with cutman's blades too i might add) trick, I die within about 30 seconds.

Hell, I USED to be able to beat Contra without dying... now 30 lives seems like its not enough.

I think i need to face the fact that I'm losing my skill...

***screw that***

***Blackjax pulls out Contra

***Blackjax locates RF modulator

.... time passes...

well, I just died in Base 2...5 times. I guess i should stick to RPGs LOL

EDIT - removed completely unintentional profanity - i MEANT to say "add" and seem to have missed by a key O_O

Just remembered, Lots of enemies in Zelda: OoT were annoying because, to me, they didn't have any reason to hit me.

For example, those ginat dog like things in the forest maze when link is an adult. If they see you, they roar at you and run you into the water. It is very annoying.

Secondley, the fire things in the volcano
temple maze that knock you off the tops of
the maze and into the maze, where all the boulders are.

When I read the title of this thread, that was the first thing I thought of.

Medusa Heads too. My God are they annoying.

For that, matter, any flying enemy that can knock you into a pit is bitch in my book.

05-15-2006, 06:06 PM
There's a ton of evil bosses that everyone wishes were easier.

In the original Shinobi there is a boss towards the end that is a stack of heads, like 4 high and a few rows deep. He's a pain in the ass to beat because he keeps scooting forward and there's a bolt of lightning behind you so he eventually pushes you into it and 1hit die. If you don't have the bomb attack going against him, if you die you're screwed. No way around beating him with beginners ninja stars.

SMS Cloud Master boss #3 is a pain. I've never gotten past the 3rd boss and there's several so that game is certainly rough. I can get that far, then randomly get hit and die. Due to that you're screwed against the boss, being nearly as powerful as some insect.

Going over to the Dreamcast, in Unreal Tournament the last guy is a bitch on Inhuman mode. If you beat him you unlock the last level (finally) although you've already beaten 2 previous difficulties before it. He just jumps around and gets flack cannon on start I swear! I think he's some ninja because he also cloakes in the shadows.

How about the maze in Wonderboy Adventure in Monsterland at the end area? Those blocks you jump back and forth on to go higher are a freaking pain in the ass! You spend all this time to get to some spot that you just keep freaking falling from, running out of time. If you don't have the whistle I really hope you know where to go. Then once you get to the dragon, if you don't have the life from losing it in the maze you're owned! If you have the life though it's easy.

That's all I can think of right now but I'll be back in here I'm sure.

Not really annoying, but still hard.

In Crazy Taxi 2. The crazy pyramid got ridiculus. The final level was unheard of! But the prize was actually worth it. All the old charcters.

Ultros in Final Fantasy III/IV, especially in the river area when youre trying to protect whats-his-name. Quite simply the biggest pain to deal with in that game.

I always put Banon in the back row, fourth party slot, and have him use his heal ability every turn. You shouldn't have any problems with Ultros.

Anyway, I'd have to vote for those darn bird knights in the Great Palace in Zelda 2. I swear those things were spawned from the pits of Hell.

First thing that popped into my head were the eagles from Ninja Gaiden. Machinegun-toting soldiers? Pansies. Gigantic evil bosses who can summon lightning from the skies? No problem for Ninja Ryu. But chuck a couple birdies at him and he's done for.

Also, the Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus. Nobody -- I mean NOBODY -- takes away my angelic offensive capability. Jerk.

Boss-wise, I'd say either Jacquio from the original Ninja Gaiden (not impossible to beat, just annoying), or Joker from Batman. After the tedium of that punishing last level, AND beating the tough fire guy, Bats has to beat the Clown Prince of Crime and his enormous gun? Memo to Gotham City: get used to being controlled by a megalomanical harlequin. I managed to beat him once, and that was enough for me.

Among the many hated foes:

Pinky-The son of a bitch always manages to cut off the one available escape route from Blinky. Bastard.

The 1990-1991 Philadelphia Eagles-Their purpose from about Week 7 in Tecmo Super Bowl until the end of the season is to fuck up your perfect record.

Neal Anderson-Got the best run defense in Tecmo Super Bowl? Not after this jerk breaks free, sometimes even when you blitz. Note to Tecmo: Neal Anderson is not Walter Payton!

Mike Tyson-I'd prefer that he try to bite off Little Mac's ear sometimes. Seriously.

The Grim Reaper-I've never beaten the first Castlevania, and it's because of this dick, and his buddies the Axe Knights and the Igors. Fuckers.

Red Bubbles-Because you just had to pick the dungeon with all the Darknuts to live in.....

Birds, Bats, and Dogmen-The Unholy Trinity of Ninja Gaiden. 'Nuff said.

Did the formatting of Page 2 somehow get really screwed up? It's all of a sudden 5 screens wide, and it's not as though someone posted a monster image. Or is it just me?

I always hated when the one car in RC Pro Am would get "pissed off" and cheat through the rest of the race at insane breakneck speeds.

Those long fire chains in the original Super Mario Bros. If you're small the chances of you being screwed increase.

Man, I miss the days where you could kill an enemy by stomping on them.

I still do that...oh wait, you meant in videogames.

Birds in just about any game, especially Ninja Gaiden.

The first boss in Wrath of the Black Manta is is a huge pain, and every boss after that is pretty easy.

Mike Tyson is bullshit.

The Grim Reaper-I've never beaten the first Castlevania, and it's because of this dick, and his buddies the Axe Knights and the Igors. Fuckers.

Use Holy water before he hits the ground...he is the easiest boss next to Frankenstein with this trick.

Joker from Batman.

Actually, if you have full or almost full energy, just duck and punch the crap out of him...easy win.

Iirc, boss 4 in Metal Storm is a real pain.

The emerald and ruby weapons in FF VII, of course.

The large string of bosses in Gradius II=HARD.

Anything in Deadly Towers.

Anything in Holy Diver, especially from stage 4 on (but WOW, what a great game!)

My list.

- Geese Howard: Final Boss in Fatal Fury 1 and secret character in Art of Fighting 2.
In the games, he is very hard to beat.
In Fatalk Fury 1 because for his counterattack known as Ateminage or Knockdown Blow.
In Art of Fighting 2 because for his secret killer blow called Deadly Lava. This attack undepends of life level or KI level.

- Lakitu: From Super Mario Bros. 1.
This turtle throw Spinys eggs from his cloud.
I hate this charcater.

- Hammer Bros. : from Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3.
This twin turtles trown hammers at me.

- Rugal: Final Boss in the KOFs 94, 95, 98 and 2002.
3 vs 1: This duel look likes the cowardity.
But Rugal is the coward, not my team formed with 3 characters.
Rugal is very powerful, and copies the Geese´s and Krauser techinics.
His copied attacks are: Reppuken from Geese Howard and Kaiser Wave from Krauser.

- Goenitz: Final Boss in KOF 96 and secret character in SVC Chaos - SNK vs Capcom Chaos.
His hurricane attack makes me furious.
I hate Goenitz in SVC Chaos - SNK vs Capcom for this same causes in KOF 96.

- Orochi: Final Boss in KOF 97.
He is a thief.
His attacks drains more energy.

- Shin Akuma: From SVC Chaos - SNK vs Capcom.
Akuma is naturally a powerful fighter.
But his Shin version is most power than normal version.

- Shin Mr. Karate: From SVC Chaos - SNK vs Capcom.
I don´t have problems with the normal Mr. Karate, but his Shin version is the same level of Shin Akuma.

- Billy Kane: 1st Boss in Fatal Fury 2 and Special.
In Fatal Fury 1 is piece of cake to defeat Billy.
But in FFury 2 and Special is more hard to defeat him because for new stick attacks.

- Axel Hawk: 2nd Boss in Fatal Fury 2 and Special.
The boxer had the strong punchs and uppercuts.
His special attack called " Axel Rush " is very powerful.

- Wolfgang Krauser: Final Boss in Fatal Fury 2, Special and Real Bout Special.
His attacks likes Blitz Ball and Leg Tomahawk are very fast.
Krauser can use the Geese´s counterattack known Ateminage or Knockdown Blow too.

- M. Bison in Street Fighter Alpha 3.
In this game Bison is the Final Boss.
His famous attack " Psycho Crusher " became a Super Como in the Alpha Series.
Lost to Bison in this game results to a Bad Ending.
No continue chance in this game after your defeat for him.

- Onslaught in Marvel vs Capcom.
The Final Boss from this game is more dangerous than Apocalypse from X - Men vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter where Apocalypse is the 1st Boss.
Onslaught had the Magneto´s attack and his hand attacks drains more energy.
More than Apocalypse´s Drill attack.

- Cyber Akuma: The Final Boss of Marvel Supér Heroes vs Street Fighter.
The " Normal " Akuma is powerful. After than upgrade is very powerful.

- Zio: The Black Magician is one of the bosses of Phantasy Star IV.
The Nightmare techinic signifies certain death.
Beyond this terrible attack, Zio contains the protection of Darfkfalz from Phantasy Star I for Master System.
Zio Appears in Zio´s Fortess two times:
1st time in the place where Demi is take hostage.
2nd time in the Nurvus, localizated in the Zio´s Fortess basement.

- Lashiec: Other Boss from Phantasy Star IV.
Known as Lassic in Phantasy Star I, he come back in Phanatsy Star IV as a zombie and use his name in Japan and had new techiques for exemple " Another Gate " is a devastaror attack.
Lashiec apeears in the Sky Castle, same place of the battle with Alis and her party in Phantasy Star I.

- Profund Drakness: Final Boss from Phantasy Star IV.
This Dark Force´s creator is powerful.
Had 3 forms and devastators attacks likes than " Another Gate " from Lashiec and Megid from Chaz and Rolf, the main character of Phantasy Star II.

maybe i did something wrong and my characters ended up being weak but i hated the end boss from arc the lad II

he wasn't really hard but he took FOREVER to beat. i would give up out of pure boredom. i finally beat him one day after a 2 1/2 hour fight. i had to play in the early morning after a good sleep because playing him at night (when i usually video game) i would get to sleepy from the bordom.

i mean come on up to that point most monsters and bosses had like 500 hp and you did maybe 150 dmg on a good hit and then the last guy has 9999 hp??? and this was in his second form so you had to beat a lesser and equally boreing form before hand

yes, i hated the medusa heads as well. my hatred for them knows no bounds

She has six orbs around her! If you somehow get her stuck with three, she does her ultimate attack and YOU ALL DIE.

I would like to add the Godzilla in SimCity. That bastard randomly would pop up and go right for the damn power plants! He totally pissed me off all the time and you can't stop him. You can't send police or military in the area to stop that big freaking walking disaster.
And to follow up, the UFOs that exist in 2k and above, just can't stop them either. Uggg, why can't you stop demons, monsters, aliens, or other crazy stuff in the SimCity games?

Doesn't really qualify as a "boss", but rather annoyance in building a city that happens too often.

There is absolutely no use in having any skill here. The whole level is one you just have to memorise.

That reminds me, there was a boss in R-Type DX in R-Type 2 on one of the later levels that pissed me off to no end. The problem was that there were too many sprites for the GBC to display. After a second or so, you ended up having to dodge invisible bullets. There were blocks to dodge too so he would have been a pain even if you could see what he was throwing at you.

As for most annoying, Red Devils from Ghosts n Goblins.

Don't you mean 3K? The monster in 2K was all too easy to get rid of with the military.

Pretty much every boss in the original Breath of Fire was a bluddy pain. You wear them down to zero hitpoints, and then for some very stupid reason, you just have to keep fighting them... and keep fighting... and keep fighting... and there's no chance you'll lose, because you're stocked up with plenty of items, but nonetheless, on and on and on it goes... gah.

How 'bout the most wretched stationary enemy in a game. Don Medusa from the Lolo series. You think you got the bastard boxed in, so you ramble over to the nearby Heart Framer only to hear that wooshing sound as the bolt stabs into you from the other Don Medusa behind a shrub you forgot about. I remember playing this game late one night and actually jumping out of my chair at one point, surprised by that damned bolt of lightning or whatever it is he zaps you with.

There is a sneaky way to get rid of most of those Red Devils: you move just far enough to the right to be able to shoot them. As SOON as you do and he reacts, run-run-run about a screenlength or so to the left. Most of the time, he'll be gone when you go back.

It is possible to destroy the topmost and bottommost moving barriers in Level 4. If you have the "Orange Fireball Creeping Laser" powerup, it's much easier, and the top and bottom Blue Globules are quickly destroyed. But those "invisible" shots you mention are a pain.

Still, it's fun to go on an all-out rampage of destruction in that game when you use Invulnerability!
