It has been a very busy year with a lot of changes for me. However, it is time once again...:
Attention all classic video game players!
You have asked and been anxiously waiting! So without delay...
Welcome to the Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition 2006!
Tulsa, OK – On August 19, 2006 Atari, Coleco, Mattel, Nintendo, Sega and many more of your favorite classic gaming systems will once again rise from history in all their glory as the Marriott Tulsa Southern Hills Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma will be host to the forth annual Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition organized for the mid-American states of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and beyond!
Plenty of space left so be sure to reserve now if you are interested in being a part of Mid-America's most anticipated annual event!
We also will have a need for a couple of volunteers this year to assist with marketing and during the event. Please contact us through the OVGE website if you are interested in being a volunteer.
The Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition is a gathering of collectors, video game enthusiasts, and vendors coming together to show, trade, buy, sell and have an incredible time!
Check the OVGE (http://www.ovge.com) website for full details and be sure to check often for updates as they happen.

Cool. I'll be there (unless somethng comes up). I plan to bring some of my equipment and install it on PDF's table. I hope it helps out.
BTW, the link in the press release still points to the old OKGE site and doesn't work (you may want to fix that).

I guess I need to figure out what I'm bringing as I'm setting up this year.. so far I've got a C-One that will be tagging along with me, and possibly an Amiga 4000T. I'm trying to figure out what theme I should do.

Just to let all of you know. I do NOT plan to exhibit this year. This will be the first time that I haven't brought stuff up and setup a table, but I will have tons of other stuff going on during the show. I simply won't have time to keep constant watch over my table.
With that, I will still be bringing up the TVs for the classic game tourney as I always have each year and will be hosting that event as I have in the past.
I also plan to bring up that new Frogger cab, provided I can get it fully operational. And if I bring that, then I might as well bring up the DC Kiosk ehh? At least with those two Items, I can sorta set them up and leave them be.

As usual, I'll be waving the Odyssey2 flag with the usual rarities like the trackball, but I'll also be showing off some of the new homebrews and recently-unearthed gems like Shark Hunter and Spider-Man (and maybe even Tutankham if it's out by then).
Also, I'll have a live running demo of Atari Video Music for everyone's psychedelic listening/viewing pleasure, and maybe a little bit of Famicom and Vectrex lovin' too. :D Plus the usual suspects, like the complete Coleco tabletop collection, retrogaming-related toys, and that video thing that everyone seems to like. ;)

I can't wait! I hope to see all you guys again this year, I just hope I can make it again. I had a lot of fun last year, not to mention learning new stuff and making new freinds. This year I can hang out afterwards and drink some beer with you guys (beers on me corona&limes)

Excellent!
Hats off to Crossbow, for what will be another great show this year! 8-)
Hopefully, I will be able to attend, it depends on my new job that starts Monday, June the 12th. (To bad I didn't take that job in Tulsa :( )

I'm bumping this up a bit. So far on my table I've got a Commodore One to display, a couple CD32s probably, and various other C= stuff. I'm going to try to drag all my duplicate carts (200+) and wires/etc. I'm up for suggestions (look through the collection on my webpage). Last year I had an import theme - PC Engine Duo, Japanese Gamecube games, Brazillian SMS games, etc.

I'm looking at going for the first time. I really wanted to go last year, but time and work wouldn't let me. Just trying to decide on the fly or drive option as it'll cost about the same with the way gas prices are.

The tables are paid for...and I'm bringing company this time!
DP's own AltairBoy is planning on being there to show off some of his collection of vintage (and working!) MITS Altair computers at the PDF tables, with at least one 8800 up and running with a game or two, and some vintage computer magazines dating back before Apple came along and revolutionized everything. Now there's something ya don't see every day.
I'll have the usual Odyssey2 goodness, and if I can coax it into working again, the original Magnavox Odyssey (again, not something that you can get your paws on every day). There'll also be a real live working Atari Video Music there that you can try out hands-on (along with a nifty mix of game-related tunes and vintage 70s and 80s goodness), as well as the complete Coleco tabletop collection - all with batteries in 'em! - and all those great goodies in the PDF videogame memorabilia collection.
If I can get it all put together in time, this year will see the premiere of a new expanded version of the PDF video loop that has proven so popular in years past - with possibly even as much as an extra half-hour of vintage game clips.
Oh, and that's just the PDF table. Flack, icbrkr and quite a few others will be there, all with their own displays that are at least that cool.
If all this isn't sounding tasty enough for you to head to Tulsa for a Saturday, then I don't know what is! Come on out and play some classics. That number again is O-V-G-E (http://www.ovge.com).

I've been working on this all morning. I've got 3 tables - 2 tables for displays, and 1 table for stuff to sell. What I've got so far:
Table 1:
Amiga CD32 - Playing Gloom (by request of SteveW)
Amiga CD32 - Playing Guardian and any shooters I have with me
<empty spot>
Table 2:
Commodore One - Playing .. ? I need help here. I need a list of about 10 C64 games that would be a good "pick it up and play" game. I say 10 because the C-One's core isn't 100% compatbile and it might not work.
Amiga 4000T - Playing ... ? I need an AGA title here to show off... again, quick "get into the game" sort of play. Also, if anyone wants to see a pretty loaded Amiga 4000T setup too, I'll break out of the game (it's a 4000 w/18MB, 5 disc CDROM changer, 24 bit video card, NIC, more).
Commodore 64C - Playing .. ? Creatures 2 has always been a hit for the death scenes but I'm up for something else.
Table 3:
Everything from my store is coming along pretty much (epochgames.com) .. 2600, 7800, 5200, NES, SNES, TI, Genesis, more.. and a lot of accessories and stuff that aren't on my store (cauz I haven't added em in yet). Controllers, some TI parts, a Coleco Telestar pong machine, 3 or 4 Sun Sparcstations and anything else extra that I have lying around. I'm sure I'll add more stuff to my table before the date arrives.

I assume you guys are staying at the hotel that the show is in, right?
I'm still debating on flying for $120 or driving for a little more... and flying for an hour or driving for 4 1/2 hours.
I told a pal from Ark about the show and he might make it if works not a problem.
Flack
07-22-2006, 08:03 PM
That's where Icbrkr and PDF live as well (Arkansas). I'm in Oklahoma City. I'm not sure if we're staying there or not yet. I can't remember if there were any restaurants within walking distance (other than the one in the hotel) but there are tons of places to eat within 3 or 4 miles.
I don't know Tulsa that well so I'm not sure where the airport is in relation to the hotel, but I don't think it's that close.
-^Cro§Bow^-
07-22-2006, 09:58 PM
Tulsa International is nearly on the opposite side of town. But..the Marriott has a shuttle service from the airport to the Hotel provided your a guest there or course.
And I want to say there are a few places sorta within walking distance. There is a BK about a block West of the Hotel as I recall and a Subway about a mile West from the Hotel.
I would have liked to have done the show closer to the Airport, however, there are two problems with that. One is that the airport and the area, isn't a very good part of Tulsa, and two, there aren't really any Hotels near the airport that have nearly the same space as I get at the Marriott in South Tulsa.

Are there any specials on hotel rooms related to this? I'm planning on coming up the friday night before so that I can have the full day to hang out.
Is there anything going on the night before?? Maybe an unofficial DP gathering?

I booked a room for friday night and they gave me the "Leisure Rate" which was 89 bucks a night.
-^Cro§Bow^-
07-23-2006, 02:06 AM
Yeap...the leisure rate is accurate. Same deal if you mention your attending the OVGE and want the room discount setup for it. That is..there is supposed to be...so make sure.
yummysmokedham
07-23-2006, 10:26 AM
When I called and reserved they said there was no special rate for OVGE because there were no rooms set aside and the best deal they could give me was the leisure rate.
ubikuberalles
07-26-2006, 05:15 PM
If you are an AAA member and plan to book at the Marriott, you'll get a slightly better rate than the leisure rate. I just booked my room and it was $85 a night with my AAA membership. It's only $4 off the leisure rate but money is money! :)
-^Cro§Bow^-
07-26-2006, 08:55 PM
No special rate for the show ehh? I had specifically worked out a deal with them this year to have about 10 rooms slotted away at the leisure rate of 89.99 a night. But I guess since they offer the leisure rate...it is all the same thing. Strange though...
Well, they get the money for the room early next week, so everything should be squared away by them.
I could still use a few more Arcade cabs at the show though..errrr....

It's still a while before the show, but it looks like I'll be there. Being in a small family business, things can change quickly. If something comes up and I can't make it, there will be next year (I hope).
I'd like to toss out this offer. If there is a game in my import collection that someone wants to see or use in their display let me know. I don't have anything really rare or out of this world, but I thought I'd ask. I have to say no R. Silvergun, since I don't want to buy another copy if something happens. :embarrassed: I have mostly Saturn, Dreamcast, PCE & PS2.

Pantechnicon, AltairBoy, and k8track -- when do you all plan on arriving in Tulsa, and when do you plan on leaving?
I have to work Friday, so I'm planning on having everything loaded up so that Friday after work I can head straight to Tulsa. I should be there around 7pm, Friday night. My wife is driving separately and won't be in Tulsa until later that night. We'll be there Saturday; she's leaving early to head back home to pick up the kids from grandma's. I'll be at the show until 5pm (obviously) -- after that, it just depends on what everyone else's plans are as to what I'm doing. If anyone wants to hang out and go to dinner or something I'm down for that. Regardless, I'll probably drive back to OKC Saturday night after everything else wraps up.
I'm already in hot water; Saturday is also my wedding anniversary, so I'll be making ammends Sunday for spending Saturday in Tulsa, I'm guessing. :D

Ice already touched on this, but I just wanted to add that there are a couple of guys every year who bring their trade boxes not just the night before but to the show itself. IIRC the "balloon guy" (the guy that shows up every year and makes balloon animals for people) also brings his tradebox to the show and walks from table to table, wheeling and dealing.

My plans are that I'm still going in a few weeks... though I might not be as prepared as I'd like to have been.
Flack and a few others already know this and I've been posting on my blog - my mom is losing her battle to ovarian cancer and I've been watching her for a couple of weeks now. Depending on how everything unfolds will determine if I'm still making it or not.
If I do make it, I'll still be there on Friday night and the days leading up to it are going to be busy for me - I still need to sort out my for sale pile.

I won't be able to make it in until Saturday morning, but I think this announcement will make up for it. :D
I'm planning to have copies of the new, improved and extended Phosphor Dot Fossils video available. This is a greatly expanded version of the one that's been running for the past couple of years, now with nearly twice as many games shown (on twice as many systems), more coverage of computer games on such platforms at the Apple II, Commodore 64, and Atari 8-bit machines, classic commercials, footage of rare gaming swag, and much more. Come visit the PDF road crew and get a piece of classic gaming history to take home with you!
If you just want to play some games, of course we'll have the Odyssey and Odyssey2, AltairBoy and his Altair collection, and the ever-popular complete collection of Coleco mini-arcade tabletop machines. Something old school for everybody!

For anyone who didn't see PDF's old video presentation, let me tell you, it was bad ASS. I got a copy of the old one a couple of years ago. I took it home and planned on watching it for five minutes or so. A couple of hours later (or however long it is) I was still sitting there on the couch, drooling and watching. I've seen a few pix from the new video and it looks even more awesomer (c).
I'll be buying one early in the day but I'm not going to open it until I get home, otherwise I'll end up watching it all day during the convention.

80+ 2600/7800 carts selling mostly for $1
20+ NES carts selling for 3-5 each
INTV stuff for a buck
O2 stuff for a buck
SMS stuff for $3-7
Various controllers, TI stuff (TI stuff, $1/cart)
A Coleco pong machine, a stack of SUN Sparcstations
Some CD32 titles I got extra (but not the amount I thought I'd have)
I gotta make sure I don't come home with this stuff! I'll have 200+ carts in all ;)

If we leave the hotel area I'll try and note which general direction we went so others can easily find us. :) I suspect Friday I'll get to the hotel, hang out for a bit and "find people", go eat with whoever wants to go, come back to the hotel, and hang out in some generally visible area (either the lobby or the OVGE room itself).

Bummer! Looks like we're going to miss out on any Friday night activities. I'm respecting my wife's wishes to not take my son out of school early on Friday so we won't even be leaving Austin until about 3:30. I don't expect we'll get into Tulsa until around 11-12 midnight-ish! (I have a light foot, must be from growing up in the northeast U.S., where traffic usually crawls.)
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Bummer indeed. Perhaps you'll be able to hang out after the show on Saturday?
Based on my experience, driving in Texas with a light foot is a very good idea.

Based on the current Fines in the state of OK right now...driving with a light foot is HEAVILY advised!!!
Min fine in OK is $120...min in Tulsa county now sits at $170...incredible...
Just forewarning...

Oklahoma isn't much better. A few years ago we voted to eliminate safety inspection stickers -- now, we (they) get our (their) money through increased ticket writing. Be warned.

Rob, I gots your cell phone number and will give you a call when I get into town (I'm fiercely anti-cell phone myself and so I will have to find a pay phone and use a phone card, no big deal). I've decided to go to Keystone State Park instead, which I realized is much closer to the hotel and is outside the west end of town. I'll stay at Snowdale on Saturday night, which is out of town the other direction, heading home for me. $8 a night, baby!

Hey, it looks like I'll be bringing one of the Pantechniclings with me after all. I've decided Alex can punt from school on Friday and join me and Uncle Altairboy on our trip.
If nothing else he'll keep me from drinking too heavily.

Unfortunately, some things came up at the last minute and I won't be making it to Tulsa after all. I'm sorry.

We must mount a search party to bring k8track to OVGE. These "other things" can be dealt with later.
I'm in the middle of my mad preparation action:
PREPARATION A:

Boxed stuff is good. This box has balls. Trackballs, that is.
PREPARATION B:

Coleco mini-arcade goodness awaits transport.
PREPARATION C:

How rare is the stuff you'll be seeing at OVGE this year, you ask? Is this rare enough for ya?
PREPARATION D:

Due to some technical difficulties with my Magnavox Odyssey, it won't be coming to the show this year - it may be old hat to everyone else, but I always enjoy seeing it get so much playtime. Instead, my modded PS1 will appear, with the World's Greatest PS1 Joystick, and retro arcade compilations aplenty, including many imports. Qix? Crazy Climber? 10 Yard Fight? Yeah, we got dat. The CDs on the right are imported game soundtracks - that's what'll be playing through Atari Video Music along with some music from the one and only Mr. Tony Fox.
By the way, I'll have some Tony Fox CDs to sell at the show, but hit me up early - supplies are limited!

Man, you're killing me, Earl. But the truth was, I just wasn't up for it. I'm just far too depressed to make the drive without my fiancee. (She's been out of the country now for 12 months and counting.) I couldn't do it. It was too overwhelming. Taking long, cross country drives and camping was our thing. I just couldn't do it by myself. I even packed the car last night with all my camping gear and tradebox of video games. But I just lost the heart for it. It's OK, I'll save the gas money, I guess. And it worked out for the better, because Kazue sent me a paper she needed proofread and corrected right away, so I was able to do that for her (she's working on her Ph.D.). I don't mean to be a total bummer but I wanted to be honest--you know it's something (emotionally) major when it's keeping me from OVGE, one of the coolest things ever.
Have big fun, and I know next year I'll be in the proper frame of mind to truly enjoy it.

I'll hold you to that. And bring Dr. Kazue with you!

Wow. I prefer to drive alone. I can turn up the radio (or iPod with FM transmitter) as loud as I want, I don't have to worry about stopping too much if I see shops I'd like to look at or generally need a pitstop, and I don't have to listen to anyone complain about how fast I drive.
I'm all rarin' to go. I just hope the excitement doesn't keep me from falling asleep tonight. That happened at the first OVGE, I only managed a half hour of sleep before me and a couple of co-workers were going to set out. I've made it to the past two, though, and I intend to make it tomorrow.

You get a complimentary tube with the new 8-Bit Weapon cd...along with a packet of powdered prune juice and a razor blade to slit your wrist.
Excellent marketing tactic.

Last night I had dinner with Icbrkr, Mrs. Icbrkr, Funk Buddy, AltairBoy, 98PaceCar, Pantechnicon, and Pantechnicon Jr. When I got back to the room I talked with Jason from Trade-N-Games, Smitty, YummySmokedHam, Crossbow, Jeff Cooper, and others I'm probably forgetting. By the end of the night I'd made close to $200, getting rid of a bunch of extra joysticks, a SNES, and several copies of my book.
Oh, and OVGE hasn't started yet. LOL
It's gonna be a great day!
