LOL By the time you find out where to send a copy of the petition to, the address will be wrong because the Atari name will have changed hands again.

And how. It seems that name is curse. I mean just look at how the current Atari is.
Besides what is it with people and wanting a console just because of the name?

Dude atari is almost bankrupt. The is a better chance of Sega making the Dreamcast 2 then another Atari console.

A new Sega console would kick ass =D

There's no point in asking for a new Atari console, because anyone who worked on the original Atari no longer works for the company that owns the name "Atari." It's not like you're getting a brain child of Nolan Bushnell here.

I commend your efforts, but atari is dead in the water, espically if they cant even product a RETRO console right.

Itd be pretty awesome if microsoft bought the atari name and started to maked the 360 as the Atari 3600.
Wait, did I just say something pro microsoft?!?
Oh my, I need some sleep if I want to live up to my stereotypical apple ways. LOL

Hmm...what'd it be called, you think? The Jaguar was the 10,400 (or was that the Lynx? Jeez, so hard to keep 'em all straight these days)...

As has been said above, the company "Atari" is actually Infogrames who just uses the name for marketing. On top of that, they just laid off a signifigant portion of there workforce, and will probably be going out of business shortly.
If you want to take it a step further, look at the last console "Atari" liscensed, the Flashback. So not only are they not in a position to make a console, but they suck at liscensing the name to 3rd parties too. Some how i think it best to leave Atari to die... again.

Beyond everything else, no company is going to risk losing millions because of a few hundred names on an online petition. Do those things ever really get anything done? I doubt it. The real Atari is no more...let it die in peace.

Screw a new console, just give me a plug-n-play so I can play Driver 3 all day!
I want my DRIV3R!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judging by Atari's recent creations, I'd rather Atari die off (which isn't that far off) then ever resurface.
Although I still love the Jaguar.

The person who started this thread either isn't that familiar with the whole Atari history...or is possibly just incredibly naive...kind of like Jane Fonda in "9 to 5"....no offense intended. :D

Does this mean the Atari name will be on the market again soon?
Lets start up a collection fund and buy it then market our own Atari console

yea there is a problem with that. mainly do to the fact that Atari is more just a name then a company now. It's been handed off to i balieve 4 companies now, most just crashed and burned.

Oh I know the story with Atari well enough, but I think blind optimism can sometimes get the job done - and if you don't try you'll never know.. The name's still around so something could still happen... :)

It'd be cool if they did release a new console. I've heard that colecovision is releasing a new console from the official website.

Atari is barely hanging in there. You know about Atari history, yeah, but are you aware of the massive layoff in the last few weeks?

Atari Console: Hell No.
For god sakes, they have been releasing the worst crap for about 9 years now, and people think they will just revive and sell a gazillion atari consoles? C'mon....

I just checked the petition out of curiosity and it looks like this guy has spec'd out a run of the mill PC running Linux. Not sure even those of us who are hardcore Atari fans would buy something like this. Seriously, direct your energy and attention to something worthwhile like helping the homeless or finding a cure for a terrible disease.

Not a good idea. The problems with atari currently is documented. They don't need to make a new system. They should have the systems made on nintendo's virtual game console or make a flashback for the 5200, lynx or the 8bit computer line.

As much as an old gamer like me would give his left testicle to see that happen - Like many of the others have stated, it's just not gonna....
Just the name 'Atari' just makes you smile.
If you're over 25, at least. :hmm:
