Wondering if anyone else has seen this and thier thought on it. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be serious or a joke. If it's a joke fine, it wasn't that well done.

But if it's serious, well then it just seems bad. I mean what's the point of bashing a bunch of games just because they got a lot of hype/recognition and not putting the games into context?

I mean they knocked the original SMB because it's easy and simplistic and the gameplay lacks innovation. Yeah now in 2006 it might seem that way but 21 years ago it was a different story. And calling anyone who likes a game like Katamari a geek who's obssessed with anything quirky or from Japan just seems childish.

ah it was a joke, read the editors column (its in the waaaaaay front of the magazine)

I think its kind of funny how they take shots at geeks and make generalizations about everything, but i also think a lot of immature things are funny too, so yea

GI shifts the focus as to what's being made fun of between the gamer and the game. Whichever is an easier target. It's hard to make fun of the first Katamari game. It takes itself about as seriously as an acid trip.

Sadly, the only US game I've ever called "quirky" is Myst. Think about it.

A fun read, and I absolutely loved the picture of the dead chocobo. I laughed out loud when I saw it.
