Picked up 6 O2 titles at the Value Village today. Four of them are in hard plastic cases with a clear front and a black back that fold up. Are these cases common?

Sounds like Videopac boxes. They're very common in EUROPE. All of the O2 games released in the US were in cardboard boxes.

I thought only Brazilian O2 games were packaged that way, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: or Europe ;)

Well, I'm in Canada and two of them have "Philips Electronics" on the back with the Canadian address of Philips. Maybe they are common here in Canada as well.

Well, Philips Electronics made Videopac too.

I've got a couple of O2 games in the hard package and both came with french as well as english instructions. I'd seriously guess that they're just Canadian packages.

Hehe, I was just going to mention those very same games. The one is Magnavox packaged very similar to the US version and is Canadian and the other is a Videopac/Phillips. It's odd because you should have a couple of other ones with French instructions but regular boxes.

Jason, I got those games from a Canadian to begin with, btw.

I was wondering if you'd catch this thread :)

I haven't looked at too many of the packages in depth which is why I haven't noticed other French instructions. I was wondering what all those pieces of paper were though - codes of some sort? (I haven't played with it much yet either - just KCs Krazy Chase so far :) ).

Nice of you two to have a private conversation in this thread. I'm assuming some kind of trade went down? :P

We didn't highjack it *too* much ( we did talk more about Canadian releases, which is in topic :D )

And you assume correctly: CW had to part with his O2 and I gave it a good home :)

@nature boy, I haven't the foggiest what that paper is all about. It was there when I got them and I just passed it along to you. :)

I liked the plastic boxes better personally. I think they hold up a little better than the cardboard ones.

I found it interesting that Magnavox actually made the inserts and everything for the Canadian market and used the Videopac boxes, while the US versions were in the cardboard. Kind of strange.

Joe, you must be mistaken. There are two O2 auctions up with pretty notable plastic case Odyssey games. Try maximebeauvais auctions and there's another from Canada. I stared for some time until I decided that they are probably crap up there, too, and that I shouldn't be paying $45 just for packaging variations. O2 fanatics look out.
