I grabbed Raiden III on Thursday, and it was indeed tough to find; only one GameStop in the area had it.

Then again, I probably shouldn't have bothered. This is the most boring shooter I've played in long time.

I'm actually buying it to play it. Imagine that.

Truth be told, I've been playing the import and I'd say if you like Raiden, you'll like this. Simple as that.

I like Raiden I and II, and I think Raiden III is awful. Your ship is far too slow, the levels are blandly designed, the weapons suck, and the soundtrack swings from average to annoying. This isn't even worth $10.

But hey, at least it's not overrated like that terrible Radiant Silvergun.

So what's the verdict - is this worth picking up?

No.

I'd rather play Raiden III than Radiant Silvergun.

Of course, I'd rather play a lot of things than Radiant Silvergun. :P

When I checked to see if my copy of Raiden III had shipped today (still on backorder) I also checked on my reserved copy of 'The Red Star'. That 4/20 date is out the window and has now been pushed back to the 4/26.

My guess is that in another week it'll get pushed back another week again, like has happened weekly for the last 2 months.

In other news, XS Games apparently put out a press release a couple weeks ago saying Red Star would ship on the 24th. Also, last I checked, their site said it was "now in stores" as of March 27th. Which it, uh...isn't.
As much as I distrust the publisher, I'd say it's slightly more likely to ship this week than it was the last few...

The upside to all these delays is that you can still pre-order The Red Star at a discount. CD Universe (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7116606&style=games&BAB=Z) has it for about $14, and it's even less if you're using Google Checkout for the first time.

I'd rather play Raiden III than Radiant Silvergun.

I'd rather play motherfucking Two-Ten Kaku than Raiden III.

The Red Star has shipped according to Game Stop (http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntt=red+star&N=0&find.x=0&find.y=0&find=Search)!

I have reserved this game at TRU and will hopefully be picking it up after work tomorrow!

Gamestop was dum dum and not allowing for reserve on this game  What is point of offering reserve when they discriminate on titles such as these. Look hard this may be tough one to find?

This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway...

So the xbox version of Red Star has been cancelled right? Only the PS2 version was released?

That's how it seems to be according to amazon.ca (link (http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_ss_vg/701-5760481-2552343?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=the+red+star&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go))

No Xbox only PS2 :(

(this game was originally to be release by Acclaim but they go bankrupt and the rights were picked up by some small time publishers. Rumor for long delay was becasue they didn't want to release as budget title but Sony put the pressure on)

I reserved a copy thru GameStops website like 3 months ago.

I picked up The Red Star today. Only the local mom-and-pop game store had it, and the owner said that it actually arrived last week. Strange.

So far, the game's every bit as fun as the demo was three years ago. I wish the characters could jump, but everything else is impressive: tight controls, solid visuals, and bosses that recall Treasure titles. At twenty bucks, this is a steal.

Yeah, I wish I'd gone through the website. I tried to reserve it at a local GameStop, but there was no way for me to put money down; they just took my number and promised me a call when the game arrived.

I ordered my copy of the Red Star off of Amazon.ca

I guess I ended up getting their last copy, because when I searched for it, it said "only 3 left, hurry and order". I searched around amazon.ca for something else to buy to qualify for free shipping and by the time I ordered it half an hour later it was "only 1 left, hurry and order", and now amazon.ca says "Availability: Usually ships within 4 to 6 weeks." so I guess I got their last copy :D

They most likely wern't allowing pre-orders because it was a C list title. That and the horribly unconfirmed street date of this thing. I've gotten who knows how many emails from GS telling me that the release date had been pushed back. Probably better that you found it in that mompop store.

Got mine today from J&R via Amazon.

Couldn't find it anywhere today, checked Gamestop, Target, and Wal-Mart *shudders*. I figured Wal-Mart was the best bet because it was the only place I could find Scurge: Hive the week it released, but alas.

I don't want to have to order online, I want to play it now... :bawling:

Near as i can tell, the xbox version was canceled. I put up some screenshots from the Xbox E3 2004 build, i could be talked into doing a video runthrough if there's any demand.

I think my aggressive pushing on pre-orders and general sales of Raiden III has made us the number one Gamestop in the company for...Raiden III. We've sold twelve copies so far and have already been replenished twice. Watch out Pokémon!

I ordered Red Star from Amazon, and I think I'll order Raiden III soon. I don't see the point in pre-ordering something like that when Amazon will have it in stock.

Too bad none of that will get you a raise, a promotion, or any kind of anything from the company. You should have sold twelve Game Informer subscriptions, gosh.

The "benefits" and oppurtunities for promotion Gamestop offers are identical no matter how many Game Informer subscriptions you sell. The new policy is sell just enough that no one notices you hate the company and then push whatever you want. ;)

Red Star's just about impossible to find in Manhattan. To the internet it is!

If you care at all about this sort of thing, you can get a copy of Red Star signed by the series' creator Christian Gossett. Just go to http://www.archangel-studios.com/comics/redstar/ and click on the "Red Store" link. They've also got two mini busts of Maya and Kyuzo as well as two varieties of Red Star Zippos.

Damnit! I wish I had seen that before I got mine off of Amazon! I'm tempted to get another copy just to have it signed. Surprisingly, even the shipping is reasonable.

Mine arrived from Amazon last week. I'm really loving it. Great old school action :)

However, I noticed the load times to be unbearable until I loaded it onto my hard drive. Now it loads pretty quick. Anyone else had that problem?

Yeah, the load times are rather obscene.

Incidentally, I picked this up today, and played the first four stages on co-op with a friend. It's certainly an excellent game! Don't regret the $20 at all. :D

Finally beat The Red Star today, totally worth the $20. Although if I knew I could get a signed copy I would have gone for that.

Anyone else beat it yet? The last boss was just a pain. Oh, and for anyone using the girl, I have a good combo that I used throughout the game.

Square 4 times (not too fast), R1+Forward and Square (Dash attack), Press square quickly (untill she does the part of the combo where she swings her weapon really fast) R1+Back and Square (knocks them in the air), Square 4 more times and then Back and Square (Slams them into the ground).

I could kill or almost kill most enemys with that attack.

I was the only person who reserved Raiden III at the Gamestop near me :( .

I just came back from Gamestop at lunch. While I was there, I noticed 1 new copy of Red Star and 1 new copy of Raiden III on the shelves. According to the manager, the copy of Raiden III is from a 2nd shipment they received last week. I was impressed. I'd check Gamestop/EB if you're still looking for these games.

The site mentions the game being available in both NTSC and PAL formats. So does it have signed copies of PAL versions as well? If not i'll have to make do with a NTSC one.

Just bought The Red Star two nights ago, haven't played all of the way through it yet, but it's just as I remember from the demo a few years back. So... beautiful. I've been pushing this game on people I find at work.

And we don't even have it in stock! Raiden III, yeah; Red Star, no. Dammit! >.<
