So, this is the saga of my search at local bookstores for The Xbox 360 Uncloaked. It's Dean Takahashi's follow up to Opening the Xbox. I loved the first one because it went deep inside MS to show the stuff that went into making the console.

So, this is what happens when I try to call a bookstore to get a copy:

"Yeah hi, I'm looking for a book called The Xbox 360 Uncloaked."

Xbox?

"Uh, yeah, Xbox."

What's that?

"It's a video game system."

Oh. Who's the author?

"Dean Takahashi."

Oh, it's a Manga?

"No, no. It's a book."

Is it Japanese?

"No, he's American. He did a previous book called Opening the Xbox."

That's the one you want?

"No, no. I want the Xbox 360 Uncloaked."

I don't see it. It must be out of print.

"No, it came out this week."

Oh, then we don't stock it.

"Um, could you at least look."

I did.

"No, we sat here and talked for five minutes about what it's not."

Ok, hang on.

*hold*

Is it a strategy guide?

"Oh screw it."

*click*

You could pretty much change the title of the thread to, "Why retailers shouldn't employ retards" and apply it to just about any industry and any item :/

Don't blame a bookstore for someones retardation. I've never had that kind of problem when I goto B&N, infact I've had the employee helping me go out on a quest just to find a book for me.

I've experienced that kind of attitude at GS, EB and a few times at retail stores. Which is why I don't bother asking anyone for help until I'm at a complete loss, even then I still don't ask for help and I eventually find whatever it is I want.

Dude, seriously, thank you! God, I've been in Blue Screen Of Death hell at work but this cheered me right up :)

Sounds like we both had quite a day. If it makes you feel any better, I get much the same response from shop assistants at COMPUTER shops. Crazy world we live in.

Face it, you'll have to deal with morons like that these days.

Once I went to Barnes & Noble and for some reason I thought they might just have copies of the Aria of Sorrow (Castlevania) art book. The woman behind the counter was uber helpful.

So yeah, you're dealing with an idiot, that's all.

The only thing I have a problem with is the outrageous prices for game related books at Barnes and Noble.

This is why you ask for books by the ISBN#... you can look it up. That way you can circumvent all this BS and get what you want with minimal hassle.
