i've played through Actraiser god knows how many times, so I felt the urge to play it again the other day, but this time try some Game Genie codes with it. Oddly enough, any Game Genie codes I use erase the game save! Now, you can start a game with the codes and save it and be ok, but if you have a saved file already on the cart and use the game genie in any way, the file gets erased. Odd says I. Anybody else experience this with Actraiser or any other game?

some snes consoles do bizzare things with certain releases of the game genie, lost save files is one of the fun things that happens, might want to try it with a differnt genie or console.
nintendo regularly "tweaked" the systems (nes and snes) to not work with the genies.

Before using GGs on any games with battery save, it's best to back up the save file with a game copier of some sort.
I'm not sure, but I think that using a GG to change the games code sometimes screws up the save file's checksum or something, causing it to corrupt in many cases. It's really just a guess, though.

The most common cause is dirty carts contacts since there's 2 additional connections between the cart and system. You can almost guarantee deleted saves if you happen to bump the console when it's on.
If you wedge 2 quarters between the cart slot and the Game Genie, near the vertical grooves, the Game Genie won't be able to rock back and forth, creating a more solid connection.

GG has had that problem since it was released on NES. I got my Super Metroid data erased because of GG, but you really can't get mad sincce they have a warning about that from what I remember.

Interesting to know some of these things. I was told that a Genesis Game Genie doesn't work on a GEN2 or 3, is this true? I've also heard old wives tales that it actually burns out a GEN2, but doubt it, yet still don't know cause I don't put it in.
The GGG works fine on a Genny 2 and doesn't harm it at all. It isn't compatible with the model 3 Genesis though (but then again, what is?).

the genesis game geni had issues with any game with save files, for some reason you can't access save data at all when you have it hooked up, so it looks like your games don't have any save ram at all (the save files are still fine when you disconnect the genie though)

Speaking of which, there are two GG models, one in 91 and the other in 92 I believe. One is green, the other grey-ish? I bought the green one (more recent one) and the guy told me it should be the better one to get.
Any truth or lies to that? I have 90 days to return it.

I dunno about the two models, but I've had the gray one for quite some time and it absolutely helped me erase some save data. Only one time I can remember for sure though.
Final Fantasy II, I can't remember what I was using it for, but I was borrowing my friends copy of the game and it froze up during play. He obviously had the first save file and I had the second, and it only erased his save. Wierd.

I have no problem accessing save data in Sonic 3 or Sonic and Knuckles + Sonic 3 with my game genie and my Genesis 1, But D&D: Warriors of the eternal sun didn't work at all when plugged in thru the Genie.

a few of the later games used a differnt style of saving, but almost all of the early games don't work right:
phantasy star 2 and 3
sword of vermilion
shining force 1
shining force 2
traysia
super hydlide
none of those work right, as i'm sure other ones don't work right.
in fact, galoob stopped putting codes for those games in the updated code books, only the first few releases had the codes for said games in them (don't think they ever did for shining force though)
