this may have already been brought up (apologies if so), but with the world cup around the corner, many great gaming memories are flooding back (well, to me anyway). Striker, World Cup striker and Sensible soccer (all SNES) are amongst my starting line-up for my friends and i this coming WC...
does anyone have any fave football games they'd like to chime in on? doesn't matter what system. will this have an effect on ebay? (will football games actually sell? LOL )
what are the best vintage football games out there?

Tecmo Super Bowl, greatest football game ever... wait... oh, I'm such a silly American. LOL
But seriously, I always dug the EA Sports FIFA games on the Genesis. Outside of those, I can't say as I've played too many. And no, I wouldn't think that interest would increase all that much due to the commonality of nearly all sports games.

You gotta be kidding.
Anyway, International Superstar Soccer Deluxe is the best football game you can get. It's for SNES and Genesis.

The N64 versions of International Superstar Soccer still bring me a lot of enjoyment. '98 in particular. However, I have no idea if these were released outside of North America or not.

World Cup Italia '90! Best football game on the Megadrive.
agreed.
that's gotta be one games with the most time racked up in it's 2 player mode, and it shows that graphics are not as important as great gameplay.

Not being a Football fan, I'm not really into the games.
However, my mates are, and they do like to gamble too. Back when we were at school it started getting silly. They went from gambling on cards to gambling on games of ISS on the SNES. Over time it went from £10-in each up to £50-in. Ther was about 8 or 9 of them involved in all this and it really was crazy. Then one of them used the profits to get a Playstation and ISS!
I have to admit, I've never seen such legendary displays of videogame-soccer skills since though.

Haha, World Cup Italia 90 is just plain funny.
I think its mostly agreed that the one serious football game out there is Pro Evo. So just fire up whichever latest one is out (I think we have Pro Evo 5 here in my flat). They've been great on the older consoles as well, ISS64 was good fun, and although I've never played it I just know ISSDeluxe has to be better than the FIFAs of the time (I have/had FIFA 95 and well, used to play it a lot but really it isn't very good), like the series is today.
Now, you could always try Sensible Soccer for some real fun game which isn't trying to be realistic, just fun. The best iteration is Sensible World Of Soccer.

Clearly the best football / soccer game is Hooligans: Storm Over Europe.
Only because it revolves around the only part of the game I ever take interest in ;)

Capcom's Soccer Shootout is not only the best football/soccer game of all time, it's also one of the best 2-player games EVER.

is there a 4 player soccer game for the SNES? i heard one of the FIFA games was.
i think i've played WC Italia 90 on the megadrive...is that a birds-eye view game? can't remember getting into it, though. Sensible Soccer is like that in terms of viewer perspective. it's easily my fave. so quick and simple, and you can curve the ball a frieken' mile! a big time hit on the Amiga as well. although i heard Sens. Soccer ripped off 'Kick off' originally. still an awesome game.
in terms of speed, any 8 bit soccer game i usually overlook. 16 bit soccer games are the ducks nuts, i reckon. :)

World Cup Soccer for NES. It may be goofy but it's fun.

Yeah, and the goalies wear caps. I'm not sure if it's that great on your own, but with two people it's a whole lot of fun.
The N64 ISS games were indeed pretty awesome, and I really liked Sega World Wide Soccer on the Saturn too.
