View Full Version : Genesis Ms. Pacman Controls.....WTF!

I've owned two different copies of Miss Pacman for the Genesis and each one seems to have a mind of its own regarding the controls. That Harlot Ms. Pacman seems to turn only when she feels like it no matter how hard I push those buttons (and I push them damn hard!). I've tried the cart on a few systems and every once in a while you can get her to go where you want but it seems fairly random. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Isn't it obvious? She's not about to let a MAN tell her what to do! She's her own woman, dammit, and she's not going to let some Y chromosome freak push her buttons!

Don't mind me, I woke up on the wierd side of bed this morning.

There's a very simple solution to this conundrum. It's called the mode button. See that little button on the shoulder? Press it at startup. If you did it correctly, the controls should be fixed.

It's not the game, it's the Genesis D-pad, the worst D-pad in the history of gaming. It's not worth a damn for any 4-way directional games like Ms. Pac, Ultimate Qix, etc.

It's the game, it's terrible with a 3 button pad or either mode with a 6 button pad.

Harlot... one of the few words ever used on DP.

Try using different controllers (the NES Advantage worked perfectly for me on tengen's Ms. Pac-Man, but thats another story :)).

Hmmm....mode you say?
I'll give it a go and get back to ya'll. I don't believe controllers make any difference in this situation as I've tried a few.

I played some of Mrs. Pac-Man the other day and she wouldn't go up unless in a corner, and turning around at points wasn't an option. I could have sworn I've played the game before and didn't have these problems with control...

I think the controls are just sluggish and unresponsive, period, on the Genesis version of Ms. Pac Man, although I agree with AA, the Genny D pad was not meant to emulate a 4 way joystick.

Sure. I used to think that it was for the pad, but i asked to another collectors from argentinian community and definitely, itīs the game. I donīt know why, maybe a big (and damn) bug, but you couldnīt go up unless in a corner. Crap!!!, i love this game, but this version...holy crap!!!...why???, whyyyy?????

Plug in a 9-pin joystick, like the Atari VCS CX40. Works wonders.

hmm, interesting...I'll have to go try that out with some game now :D

Great thread, even the part where AA calls the Genny pad the worst in the history of gaming LOL

Even on emulator the game is a nightmare to control, a six button pad is a must to play it as two of the top buttons on the 6 button pad help turn Ms. P either up or down, and without pushing those buttons she won't do as she's told to do. I thought about making this game a future purchase, but I've got the SNES version around here, so I'll stick with that one.

the game wont work properly with a six button controller, you need to hold in the mode button when you boot your genesis

but i agree, the controls are sluggish in general, and its a problem in programming. most genesis games have extremely tight control.

the master system version of the game is the same, you end up shouting at the stupid woman trying to make her move where you want
