All about the unreleased Sonic Xtreme Saturn and PC game.

also from Wikipedia:
-----------------------------------------------------------
A disc of a test engine of X-treme exists. A copy was sold at auction to an anonymous collector in September 2005, and a high-quality gameplay video was expected to be released by the end of the year. As of now, only an animated GIF image of the gameplay has been released to the community.
and
A second, more complete build (though still lacking a soundtrack of any kind) surfaced in February 2006 and was also sold into the hands of an anonymous collector. No footage of this version has been released, but it is suspected that the copy is actually a late build of the PC version. As there was at least one build for PC which did have several levels 'complete', this is plausible.

I really hope at sometime the owner of either the PC copy or the Saturn copy releases it on the net.

The original files are on the page that you linked. Click the little camera icons to download the zipped AVIs.
Pretty damn neat stuff. A little bummed that the captures are cams, but they're really well done for cams (among the best I've seen). I'm not sure if it's the fond memories of how much I wanted to play the game or the flippin' neat camera, but god damn does that look cool.

Hopefully the PC version so it'd be easier to play / take apart / study. Hell, if someone made a neat fisheye renderer for Sonic Robo Blast 2, I'd be happy.

I've been following this release for a while actually. What's really cool about it is that Chris Senn is updating people pretty frequently on different aspects of it's development and publically releasing video and planning artwork on sonic-xtreme.com

Finally someone found it,anyway alot of people are actally working on making Sonic Xtreme for the PC,so recreating the game 10 years later. The Project is called Project-S. I am part of the making of it i actally make the music and set up the sounds for the game, right now were pretty much in the development stages and we are seeing who can do what with modeling, music, design etc. So not official relase date yet,but we will be working on it all summer. For more info keep looking at the Senntient Fourms and ill give some updates here as well.I wonder how much of a surprize this is to everyone? :/

Two things:
1) Wow, this is exactly what a 3D Sonic should have been / should be.
2) Does Sega know Nintendo is ripping of the design for Super Mario Galaxy?

1. Umm, after watching those videos, I'm not so sure this game should have been released, and now I understand why. The game does look cool, but after watching it a few times, you can tell that the game is based around a "Sphere" type thing, it's really hard for me to explain what I mean by "Sphere" type thing, but it just kinda seems like you are playing on a ball and going around and around. Again, very hard for be to convey what I'm talking about, but those that have watched the video will kinda know what I'm talking about.
I'm not so sure that this would have been a great game for Sonic's legacy. It might have been a decent enough game, but it might have hurt Sonic's legacy more than helped it, although looking at other Sonic games that have come along since then, maybe not LOL
2. Wow, you must have thought the same thing that I did. Seeing Sonic go around and around on a sphere type plane like that, it did remind me quite a bit of what I saw with Super Mario Galaxy with Mario going around those little tiny planets. There was definitely somewhat of a simularity there.

Yeah I can honestly say that after watching thoose videos
Im more then happy it didnt get released as it would of been
a confusing mess of a product that would of killed sonic to the
point that the franchise would of had no nostalgic memories
at all, bah what crud.

That's just because of the distortion caused by the renderer. You're not going around a sphere, but by rendering it in an almost-fisheye way, you can see more of the playing area. The website shows a bunch of level layout shots and they're anything but spherical.
It kind of reminds me of when I played Fisheye Quake, only without the massive headache from having a complete 360 degree field of view :)

Yeah, neat as those demos looked, it didn't look like something that'd really be very fun to play.
Nothing at all like Sonic Adventure, which is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Anyone play PANDEMONIUM for the PSone and Saturn? How about BUG? This game reminds me of those. I'd love to see the Saturn game as oppsed to the PC game.

I didn't think the Saturn was capable of stuff like that. Having not seen the Super Mario Galaxy vid, I actually find myself reminded of Lemmings 3D and Lemmings Revolution.

Previous experience has consistently shown me that ambitious projects such as this never really take off and at best never get beyond the demo phase.

Sure it was. Check out some of the last-generation 3-D titles for the Saturn. Sonic R and the 3-D world in Sonic Jam come to mind. And did you notice the pop-up in some of those videos? The Saturn was the kind of pop-up like that but later titles (again, Sonic R) managed to get rid of a lot of that shit.

I love watching these videos for Xtreme. One day we'll be playing this, everything gets leaked at one point.
And seriously, I love the shadows in this game, they look fantastic.

No, ASSEMblergames. We almost had the first one, too - we had a group bid that was only $150 away from besting the winning bid.

First of all, that's totally inaccurate. Second, there's not much to "play." Sonic X-Treme on the Saturn exists only as a couple of breezy tech demos, Sonic X-Treme on the PC exists as a level editor with a couple of test levels.

I think that would been great to play, I think if marketed well it would have boosted the Saturn's sales, too bad it wasn't released.
