Kya: Dark Lineage -- Need Hint

Anybody playing/remember this one? I'm trying to reach the top of the wind tower, the place where the periodic gusts of wind blow you all over the place. The second set of climbing vines is giving me trouble. I can get up the first one, with the rock on the right to block the wind, but I can't seem to latch onto the vines for the second part. I keep landing on top of the rock and sliding down. Any ideas? Checked all the online walkthroughs I could find, none of those authors had this problem.
