does anyone here collect odyssey 2 stuff?
what sort of price could be placed on a barely used odyssey 2 that has been sent back to the factory and been repaired. the system is boxed and has the shipping label on it that it was sent in. this boxed system also comes with the return boxed used to ship the odyssey back to the original owners after being repaired. the dates are 1981 on the shipping and it has to be worth something.
the system plays just like new and come with 20 games from a yard sale for 35 bucks. did i get hosed or was i right in thinking this packaging could be something to keep ahold of?
i hate the odyssey the most out of all of the vintage game systems and think it could be great trade bait if there are any takers. all original paperwork is included with the system including the repair invoices....
just pm me or write back in this forum...
thanks,
ace

Unfortunately, you're in the same boat as 95% of everyone who has ever owned an O^2. They pop up fairly regularly in the wild, but when you see one you pick it up anyway. You get it home, find out it's right up there with the Channel F in terms of fun value, and look to unload it. Problem is, so is everybody else. $35 was a good deal if the games were complete. If not, you got an average price on a system that makes a good paperweight :)

Since it has the factory box and invoices, I might be interested. PM sent.

Which controllers does your O2 have? I have a refurbished one with grey (not silver) removable controllers in a plain white box with artwork on the top of the box only. That one is hard to find.

i have a complete o^2 set, but i dont know enough about that particular variant of a system, so i cant comment on the value of that, but the games, if boxed, were a pretty good deal, especially if you got some complete master strategy games, atlantis, demon attack, power lords, killer bees, or turtles in there

this odyssey is the version with the wired controllers. makes it common. all of the games were common from wht i see no killer bees here, but the box and the box packaging to the repair people. the history behind the repair of the system and the factory invoices are worth more than the system and the games im sure...
anyone collect that stufff?
Even with the factory box and repair paperwork, the system is still not worth that much! What are you expecting - $100+
Just isn't going to happen.
Oh, and boatofcar - try to be nice here. Yeah, the O2 isn't that popular - but comparing it to the Channel F is plain nuts! The O2 is much better than the Channel F, period - I should know, I had both!
In simple terms, if you've gotten nothing nice to say, don't say anything. I'm sick of folks an their open hatred of the O2.

Since when is that the way we do things around here? I didn't think the comments were inappropriate. Not to mention that there are some big time fans of the O2 on the boards as well.

I agree with Ozyr on this one. Sure, the Odyssey2 doesn't have some of the classics like, say 2600 ET or PacMan, but it did have some pretty original games. Add to that the keyboard & voice unit, and you have a pretty neat little system.
Why chime in on a conversation like this if all you're going to do is be a dick and diss something? Hell, I'd venture to guess that BOC doesn't own an O2. Oh well, opinions are like assholes and all...

I don't see how he was being a dick. I don't agree that O2 games are on the level of Channel F games, but I didn't find that comment especially outrageous...a lot of us collect systems that we don't end up playing and just get rid of (like I did with my Astrocade and Jaguar).
It would have been one thing if he came out with a laundry list of "why the O2 sucks", he was just making an observation. Even the OP said he doesn't like the thing. Sheesh.

All I can add here is: the Odyssey2 is a fantastic and super-underrated system. What it might lack in terms of library size or classic arcade ports, it more than makes up in terms of STYLE. That it gets no love in the grand scheme of things only makes me like it that much more. :D

Well, he doesn't have Killer Bees.
Of course he thinks the O2 sucks.
If all you had for the 2600 was Springer and Zaxxon you'd think it sucked, too...

Wow, so much hostility! I wasn't trying to be mean. Just because I don't care for a particular system doesn't mean I haven't played it, you know. Granted, I haven't played the entire library, but I think I've played it enough to know that it lacks something for me, and the style (which AA correctly pointed out that it has, in spades, especially Quest for the Rings and the games in that series), it lacks in substance.
Please remember that message boards are for opinions, and sometimes people disagree.

Well, I don't think anybody's comments were out of line, but I do feel Ozyr's pain: it's tough to be an O2 fan. Why so many of y'all gotta be such O2 haterz? The O2 needs love too! LOL
One thing about the O2: it inspires passion. You never see people slamming the RCA Studio II with such force, and it's obviously an inferior machine. People just dismiss the Channel F; they rarely "hate" it. Not sure why the O2 affects people so strongly. (Some kind of knee-jerk O2ophobia? You have to hate it because you're afraid of liking it? I dunno.)
Seems to me that I wrote an article a long time ago for DP about this... ahh, here it is: A Few Reasons to Enjoy the Odyssey2 (http://www.digitpress.com/archives/cc_odyssey2.htm). Hey, somebody had to point them out!

ME !!
I even put toffee apple wrapper across the bottom of the screen to make my B+W tv colour for "Space monster" as it was called here in the UK.
the reall 02/videopac fans are fanatics, and a packing box is of great intrest..although I doubt it would add enormouse value.
photos would be nice.
had I been in the states, to make it worth the shipping costs..I would have definately been getting excited.

I've always figured the O2 haters' intensity has a little to with K C Munchkin being so good and 2600 Pac-man being kinda... sucky. LOL
If the Channel F had had a similar killer app, there'd be similar hostility directed at it as well...
Love all the replies here. thanks for the comments - good and bad. And this started out with someone asking for the price of a game! :P
O2william - you hit the nail on the head!!!:D
I've always found it strange the way people rip on the O2, and not on other systems that just totally sucked (like the channel F or RCA II). I had these two systems, and there isn't a game for them that is good. A few okay ones, but that is it. The O2 has so much more than they have.
And yes, the 2600 is a kick ass system, along with other classics. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
'Each system has its own good points and bad point. Period!'
As for folks making stupid comments against the O2 - at least back them up with some valid information. Just that it sucks is so lame!

The worst system i ever owned and indeed a paperwieght. The only cool thing was the carts had handles that was kind of neat wanted to like it. Hated it glad i unloaded it. The only people who like this our people who had it as a child i think, therefore having some nostaglia otherwise complete garbage...... eat it!111111111111111

well guess what guys.....
the verdict is in and all 20 games have been played. the only cool thing ive found about this system lot, other than the ffact that it come with all of its documents, is the fact that i can drink a beer, and play k c munchin with the controller one handed. never gonna see that with pac man and the crappy 2600 system.
never.
either way... odyssey fan i am sorry the pics are not to you yet, but if you pm me with an email i can send them to you. ive been through the posting pics on the net with this dp forum stuff and there are so many assholes that freak out and its like we are all in grade school again.
im not interested in keeping this unit. but im also not interested in a million bucks. just some nice trade would be great.
my last trade was with a respectable person here in the dp and i think it went well. he left me some feedback here in the forums, but i havnt a clue what it says.
so
good luck all of you odyssey fans, and oh yeah
(atari 2600 doesnt actually suck im a huge fan of that system as well as others, such as the ps2, neo geo, and the nes)
to three posts above. Man, grow up or something...
and thanks for the laugh. Posts like your are just so darn funny (funny stupid that is).... LOL LOL LOL LOL

This is the lightest system out there!
I, personally, enjoy my O2 - ever since I met Ralph Baer and got him to autograph one for me. I'm only 4 games away from a complete US collection. Yea for me!
