EBGames still sells them $110 used and then there's always the bundles that cost $180. I figured within a few months of the 360's release you would see Xboxes going for $50-75 dollers.

Because the launch of the Xbox 360 didn't lower Microsoft's manufacturing costs on the original Xbox, and they're still selling.

They still take a loss on every Xbox sold. Sure, the loss is alot smaller now, but it's still there, and the only reason they bother with it, is to avoid negative press and negative customer reaction.

Once we get into January and February of 2007, Microsoft can stop worrying and completely cancel Xbox 1 production. They probably want to have just enough stock to survive the Xmas 2006 season, and then that's it. Game Over for Xbox 1.

I think that they'll stop producing them when, and IF, they make game patches for every game so they run on the 360. I know, it's very unlikely...

I was under the understanding that MS had recenlty finished
production on the original Xbox due to useing there stock
of nvidia chips, but maybe I was wrong.

While we are sort of on topic here in Australia MS main distributor
has over 100.000 units in there warehouse and cant seem to
ship them as sales have dried up to a complete halt, the rumour
going around in retailer circles is that MS will clear there remaining
stock out for $149.95AUD which is like good since there still
$249 at the moment, and all before the year is out, or so I
have been told.

Yea I know it's not that bad. Part of it is me being selfish. I just don't want to pay $180 for a bundle and not want any of the games. And $110 for a used console is ridiculous considering an extra $20 will get you a new Ps2.

And I only want 5 games. So I don't know what to do. :hmm:

I put my xbox away in storage when I bought my 360, but since most of the games I own dont work on the 360 I had to bring it out. I can kind of see why the price has not dropped because all Xbox1 games dont work on the 360.

I was expecting a clearance price at some point much like the Dreamcast and PSone being sold at a $50.00 price point at Walmart at the end of thier retail life, only I was waiting on the original Xbox to be dropped to $99.99 U.S. for at least a few months but it hasnt happened yet.

and yea now that it has been mentioned I havent seen any new Xbox 1 systems at my local Walmart for a while.

NO WAY am I going to pay over 120.00 bucks for a USED Xbox1 when I can get a NEW Playstation 2 for only $30.00 more :hmm:

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending how you look at it, the processor, memory, video processor and hard drive in the Xbox are still pretty recent pieces of technology that have dropped about as far as they will drop at the component level price. I think we may still see a drop to $100 at some point, but just to clear remaining inventory.

They have some at my wal mart but they are only the bundle ones. My ebgames has tons of used ones. I just may have to bit the bullet and get a bundle one.

I was also surprised they never came out with a redesigned Xbox, like a mini Ps2.

The PSX didn't drop to $50 less than a year after the PS2's release. And right now the Xbox is still selling and lots of games are still being made for it.

I'm sure it will hit the magic $50 price mark, but It'll take a while; it's not gonna happen less than a year after the next gen release. As reference does anyone remember what a PSX went for 7 months after the PS2 launch?

Why is everyone saying the PS2 is $150? I went to Gamestop yesterday and they were selling them at $129. Same at Wal-Mart.

$99 bucks. It ran at 99 for another 2 years +/- before it dropped down to the 'magical' 50 (and in there I think there was a drop to $79 first before the 50).

THe Xbox 360 Uncloaked that was just released told us why.

The two chip manufacturers refuse to work together to consolidate the chipset and they're still losing money, which is the best way to lower costs late in a systems life. A price drop isn't reasonable from a buisness standpoint.

Look how long it took to get the very old PS2 down to $130 (Canadian). Forever. In that light, the Xbox's price isn't that bad for it's timeline.

Actually I just bought an Xbox a couple days ago at Rhino Games for $114.00. And a DuoX2 modchip for $15.00... Now I have three modded Xboxes, and this one is a dedicated media center. One of the nice things about an Xbox is that the modded ones will still be really nifty gadgets long after it's heyday as a game console is over.

I am still waiting for the Xbox to drop in price. I will buy a decent used system if I can. I just can't afford to buy the system for 150+ when I only need it to play a small handfull of game titles.

I need an Xbox to play Sega exclusives. That is it.

I am hoping to get a brand new system for 99.99 new, or a used system for 75.

I guess I will just have to play the waiting game.

Yeah, I absolutely agree with this. There will be a day, when you can find a old Xbox 1 for a very cheap price, and then you can find a super huge hard drive for a very cheap price, and get a mod chip and mix it all together, and voila, you've got yourself a really nice little media center situation. I had two modded Xboxes before the 360, and they are great emulation stations. But also, you could put DVD movies on the hard drive and tons of music and digital pictures and all that crap. It can really be a more affordable media center for the TV. Especially if you have little kids. You can load tons and tons of kids movies on DVD onto the hard drive, and then just use it like a DVD jukebox type thing. And with the emulation, you can have thousands and thousands of games for all kinds of various systems, and there is even some dude that was making special controller adapters so you could use real NES controllers with them and stuff like that.

So I think that modded Xboxes with huge hard drives are going to be relatively valuable for quite some time into the future. By the way... Does anybody know what the maximum sized hard drive you can put in the Xbox is? I mean, can you put a big ass 500 gig Hdd in there?

I think there was a 300-something gigabyte limit, but newer modchips support more than that? I don't know. There's also the X-Tender which lets you add two identical hard drives in addition to the one in there already. (I don't know about the limit)

Actually I didn't even put another hard drive in my media center box, just networked it to a PC with 580 GB of storage. So now I can rip my DVDs to DivX right to the PC and play them from there with the Xbox. An I love the XBMC interface for file navigation and seeking/fast forarding etc. Simple and effective.
