This is one of my favourite games of all time. I'm always suprised at how good even the 2600 version is. What is your favourite 8-bit console version and why?
My personal favourite is the 5200 version (even though it's probably the hardest). The 7800 version is nice but I hate that box around everything.

From that list, the 7800 version is pretty close to arcade. I'll go with it.

The only home conversion I ever played was for the TI-99/4a.
I imagine the ColecoVision version would be fun with the roller controller, though.

And soon you will have a trackball to play it with! It's my favorite too, BTW.

INDEED! Can't wait. My PC to 5200 adapter doesn't help much with centipede.
@Jorpho: Added TI99 though I think you'd have to at least tried most of the others to vote. Somehow I doubt the TI version could be the best ;)

Hey...
Why didn't the Atari Lynx version make the list? I hear that it there's now a fully playable version out for it.

'cause I'd prefer to leave portables out of this poll. Though I would like to try the Lynx version!

As with all of those classics, my favourite version is the Atari 8-bit. You get all the goodness of the 5200 graphics but with the standard Atari controller (or, in my case, a good ole fashioned Wico).

It's hardly debatable in my opinion. The 5200 version is the closest you'll come to reliving the arcade experience, as long as you have a Trak-Ball. The sound f/x are dead on, and the graphics are faithfull enough to make you forget all about the Arcade game. If I was forced to play without my Trak-Ball then I would go with the 8-bit computer version simply because I would prefer a standard 2600 stick vs. the 5200 stick for Centipede.

I have to disagree with you on this one. The 8-bit version's graphics are actually quite different from the 5200's. For one, on the 8-bit version, the spider's legs don't even move. Also, the mushrooms look better on the 5200. Gotta love them shrooms. :drinking:
