This is not april fools joke. Global Gaming League and China are pushing to include gaming in the 2008 olympics.
The type of gaming they are type of gaming they are talking about is computer and videogame playing.
It doesn't shock me about china or the GGL wants this.
If this passes then poker should be played in the olympics also.

Skateboarding isn't an Olympic sport.
Gaming has no chance .........

the only "olympics" that "gaming" belongs would be the special olympics.
"and corky is going for the gold!
oh no! he's trapped in the corner by pinky and clyde
looks like its only a silver medal for our pal corky"
life is pain ;-)

So does this mean those "GameLife" kids are going to cover the Olympic games in a special 3-part episode?

I lol'd at the title. Video gaming, in my opinion, is as much a "sport" as chess, poker, D&D, etc. Blitzwing hit the nail on the head.

By definition, Video Games are games and not Sports. Of course i feel the same way about Bowling, Golf, Figure Skating, Ping Pong, Nascar, and many other things which are considered "Sports."
I do think that for the Olympics to remain relevant they need some major revamps. TV Ratings are down, Baseball was dropped, and unlike in the past - Nobody looks at the Olympic Gold Medalist as the "best" in his field, but rather just the best amateur. This is true with Boxing and all of the martial arts events, all the team-based sports(Soccer, Baseball when it was there, etc..) and anything outside of your basic Track and Field, Swimming type events which ONLY have an olympic showcase.
Adding some modern sports(or even competive games) probably wouldn't hurt, along with some major rule-changes to how they handle the Boxing and who is eligible to compete. Without the BEST people in the world competing, a Gold Medal is meaningless.
